Book Review: Mastodon Farm by Mike Kleine

REVIEW:
Highly entertaining! A celebrity edition of The Sims - only better. You either get it, or you don't.

Book Review: The Yellow Wall-paper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
[image error]
4 out of 5First published in 1892, The Yellow Wall-Paper is written as the secret journal of a woman who, failing to relish the joys of marriage and motherhood, is sentenced to a country rest cure. Though she longs to write, her husband and doctor forbid it, prescribing instead complete passivity. In the involuntary confinement of her bedroom, the hero creates a reality of her own beyond the hypnotic pattern of the faded yellow wallpaper – a pattern that has come to symbolize her own imprisonment.
MY THOUGHTS:
A great short read. The protagonist weaves a gripping tale, following the pattern in the wallpaper. This story is a good example of how something so plain can be converted into something so ominous.

I'm sorry, we're currently sold out.
How To Kill Yourself went live as a paperback a couple of days ago. I know, it's not 10/13/2012. Sometimes timelines are off in the publishing world. I checked yesterday afternoon and it's already sold out on Amazon. A big thank you to everyone who purchased a copy. This doesn't mean there will never be anymore paperbacks. It means Amazon didn't have enough to meet the supply and demand. Click the bleach bottle below to go to Amazon's site if you'd like to get your paperback ordered and shipped as soon as they get more.
Why a bleach bottle you ask? You'll have to read the story to find out.

Book Review: Choke by Chuck Palahniuk
[image error]
4 out of 5
Victor Mancini, a medical-school dropout, is an antihero for our deranged times. Needing to pay elder care for his mother, Victor has devised an ingenious scam: he pretends to choke on pieces of food while dining in upscale restaurants. He then allows himself to be “saved” by fellow patrons who, feeling responsible for Victor’s life, go on to send checks to support him. When he’s not pulling this stunt, Victor cruises sexual addiction recovery workshops for action, visits his addled mom, and spends his days working at a colonial theme park. His creator, Chuck Palahniuk, is the visionary we need and the satirist we deserve.
MY THOUGHTS:
Mr. Palahniuk has a very distinct narrative, and I'm beginning to think if I've read one of his books, I've read them all.
Also see: HauntedAlso see: Fight Club
If you break down the attributes of each character, they repeat themselves in each story. Same characters, different names, and different relation to the protagonist. None of it's bad, but I get tired of the same story told over and over. Maybe I need to put some space in between his books.

Book Review: Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A great little horror story that lacks emotion. Set in eighteenth-century France, follow Jean-Baptiste Grenouille as he builds the perfect perfume, and he enlists the help of some noble young virgins along the way. An easy read after being interpreted from German to English. My only complaint would be the after-stories. After Grenouille is brought into this world, and after every person he encounters along the period of his existence, the author continued the other person's story till their demise before catching back up to the murder. It felt a little unnecessary to me.

The updated cover should show up on the Kindle version with in the next 24 hours. It may take a few weeks for it to creep through the other channels: Nook, iPad, Sony, Kobo, ect... I will keep you updated on the paperback version as the information becomes available.

I never thought I'd have pink dominating the cover of any book I wrote, but I like it.

Book Review: The Stranger by Albert Camus
[image error]
I read this book in a day and I think that speaks volumes. Some may find the protagonist off-putting but I loved him. His actions are driven by nothing but his own interests. I was impressed with the authors ability to keep the character on track and not relent the protagonist's beliefs even under pressure. This book will stick out in my mind as a favorite for a long time.
