Betrayal Blog Tour Contest! Details here

Blog Tour Stop:

The lovely Amber @ The Musings of ALMYBNENR
emailed me this morning and let me know that she had finished reading Betrayal and posted her review on it. Here's a little of what she had to say:

"My first impression when I saw the paperback of Betrayal was whoa! This is a big book! I may have been a little daunted! But please, do not let the length of the book deter you. The story is so enthralling that I was reluctant to put it down to sleep or do anything else and I would fantasize about Cordelia's world when I was not reading. The characters were distinct and varied. I really liked Cordelia. Her struggle to remember her previous life added depth to her and her experiences from both of her lives bettered her as a person."

Amber is holding a giveaway of one signed paperback of Betrayal ending May 27th, so run on over there and enter !

Tour Stop # 1:

Finally Meet The Designer and Model of the Betrayal book cover

Besides all the positive reviews and overall great response Betrayal has recieved, I've read tons of messages and reviews raving about the beauty of the cover. I have Samantha Oyola, and Giselle Lopez to thank for that. It's about time that you all met them both.

Meet the Designer: Samantha Oyola

MM: First of all, thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions. We have both been so busy these past few week's since working on the cover and release of Betrayal that we haven't had any time to chat. I want everyone to meet the talented graphic artist who created the the stunning cover that's been gushed over by book lovers all over.

SO: Thanks for having me!
MM: Being a graphic artist who designs everything from business cards to licensed T-shirts, have you always wanted to venture into the world of book covers?

SO: I've always had a fascination with book illustration and design, however, when studying in school I never thought creating a cover was something I would be doing. I was always hands on sewing, painting and taking photos with my fantastic 100 mm camera.

MM: I watched you in amazement as you created the cover, but many would love to know how you came up with the concept for the cover of Betrayal. Could you tell us a little bit about the process and your inspiration?

SO: I was completely inspired by one of the first chapters of the book where a scene takes place in the woods. I knew that I wanted to incorporate key symbols from the novel to help the perspective reader get an idea what they were in for. The lightning, Parthenon, and the gold dress are all representative of the story, and all fell into place as I worked with these elements all together. There were a few versions I had done, but felt this best captured the mysteriousness and mystical mood of Betrayal

MM: As an artist, where do you draw some of your inspiration from?

SO: I draw inspiration from every where! I can walk down the street and appreciate a wall painting, visit a gallery, or go to a concert. In addition, I always like to know whats going on in street culture, music, and art. I love personal style and adore those who can pull off interesting looks.

MM: Is there a book cover that you admire ? What is your favorite book?

SO: My favorite book cover of all time is "The Rough Face Girl" written by Rafe Martin, illustrated by David Shannon. I love how David captured innocence and humbleness in the characters eyes and body language. It's one of my favorite stories because it is very charming, and sends a positive message to young readers who have trouble fitting in.

MM: What did you enjoy most about designing this cover?
SO: What I enjoyed the most about this project was the challenge it brought upon my creativity. There were many factors and limitations that I needed to consider such as space, necessary text, imagery etc., and I liked having the goal to create a piece of art that would bring these obstacles together. Also, being able to execute this project in an attractive, cohesive manner was very fulfilling when the book was actually tangible.

MM: Is there any advice you can share with someone who aspires to design book covers?
SO: With designing covers, I would say go with your instincts, the  first choices are usually right. In addition, its always important to know who the reader is and what message you are trying to send.
Communication with the author is also imperative as they can provide incite and inspiration on what the story means to them. I think if a cover doesn't please the author, it will not please the reader.

Samantha is currently in the process of establishing a personal site however, feel free to contact via e-mail: soyola100@gmail.com if interested in collaboration.

Meet the Model: Giselle Elyse Lopez

After reading Betrayal and falling in love with the story and characters, Giselle was more than happy to be the face of Empress Cordelia Tieron. Besides being a beautiful person both inside and out, Giselle is a brainiac. I know, beauty and brains! She is a sophmore in college and majoring in Psychology. She wanted to chat a little, but is in the middle of taking exams, so we will see what Giselle is up to in the  coming weeks.

Hugs & Kisses to you both for helping make Betrayal a success,
Mayandree

Proud to be a mommy EVERY day

But Mother's Day always makes me feel beyond blessed. I had a wonderful Mother's Day with my boys and my husband. Lunch at Johnny Rockets ( my kid's favorite restaurant - it's the thick milkshakes they love most - me too) was yummy. My boys are super adorable and made me these amazing Mother's day cards. They worked so hard on them. I just had to display them for the world to see.
I teared up as usual when I saw these. I was just blown away with their talent.
My oldest son wants to design cars when he grows up. This is one of his designs. He would go nuts if he knew that I posted this, but I just had to. He's so darn talented!
I can't wait to drive it!
I know that every mom says this but I really, really mean it when I say that my kids are amazing. Even when they're driving me bananas. They crack me up with their silly excuses on why they do the wackiest things. I'm the luckiest mommy on the planet. <SMILE>. It was an awesome day.

Now for some random stuff:

Just a couple thank you's that are over due:

I want to thank Rachel who is really cool and has a fun book review blog : The Rest Is Still Unwritten for interviewing me and hosting a giveaway of Betrayal. It ended on May 8th. Thanks Rachel for spreading the word.
You can read the interview here

And I want to thank Bree over at The Magic Attic book review blog for reviewing my book and spreading the word. I appreciate that you took the time to read my book.
You can read the review here

Oh and thanks to all who stop by my blog and read my ramblings and minor rants of late. Thanks for following me on Twitter and liking me on Facebook. Your support and interest in my work is overwelming. Being a self-published author and all, I never even thought that I would sell one book much less have followers! This is really cool. Please feel free to leave me comments or email me. Quite a few of you already have and I appreciate your kind words. You're all awesome! And I must admit, I'm really smitten with all of you.

There Is No Thin Line Between Book Reviewing and Book Bashing

This one is a little long but worth reading I promise-

There is no thin line between an honest review written with no motive other than impartial feed back, and a book bashing that is clearly intended to hurt an author or their work's potential success.

In the past month since by book's release, I've joined various book review & book club sites so that my book can gain some exposure, ultimately be read, and in the mean time find new books to read. In that time I've read many favorable reviews for my book as well as for many other author's books. I've also read reviews that weren't favorable.

Unfavorable reviews are expected. You just can't please everyone and as an author, you must realize that your book may not appeal to all readers. In those reviews you expect constructive criticism. Most author's know this when they decide to author books. Those are the kind of reviews that can potentially make you a better writer for the masses, if you as the writer is willing to learn what is seen through the readers eyes from your words.

A reviewer recently gave me a low rating. I have to admit, at first I was disappointed that someone didn't find my book satisfying, but quickly reminded my self that my book may not be every one's cup of tea. I simply appreciated the fact that initially they had thought my book was interesting enough to purchase.

I remember reading a bashing review of a book, of a GREAT author who is loved by millions and who's work I personally love, where the reviewer actually wrote that she would like to punch the author in the face. Wow!?! I know. My jaw had dropped when I read it. That's just madness, I thought.

I was disgusted by that person's lack of respect for someone who was courageous enough to put their work out there for the world to read while this person probably wishes they had the courage to do something... maybe write?  The basher reviewer even admitted to not finishing the book.

But why review a book you haven't finished? Most read because they enjoy it. If you find that you are reading a book that you are not enjoying then just put it down. And just because you find that you don't like a book, doesn't mean that the book sucks. It just means that it's not the right book for you.

I haven't the faintest idea why a hater someone would waste their quality time to write such slander and actually believe that anyone will consider it a review. A well written review, whether it's in favor of a book or not, shows your intelligence.
Bashing a writer because in your opinion their work is poor or basically tearing an author's work down for the clear intent to hinder the books potential is pathetic, shows no class, is proof of your immaturity, and utter ignorance.

Nearly every author has been a victim of at least one bashing, my day has come and gone, and I was appalled that the person actually pasted portions of my book (without my permission) and construed it so that it read haphazardly. Book bashing is unfair to the writer who has put an enormous amount of time and effort into their work. Luckily, most readers are smart enough to see right through a book bashing head on, and reads other reviews whether favorable or not to help in their book selections.

J.A. Konrath, an amazing writer who has sold hundreds of thousands of books and ebooks combined, says it best:

"Unfortunately, for everyone who desires to create , there is someone who seems compelled to destroy. And because the Internet offers distance and a certain amount of anonymity, many people see no problem with viciously ripping apart books they don't like." Read J.A Konrath's excellent blog post: Everyone's A Critic

A HUGE bear size hug of a thanks to all of you who have purchased, read, and reviewed my book tastefully. As an author, I want to learn from you. I've noted your kind words and thoughts and I'm working hard on the sequel, and with someone (reputable this time) to assist in editing. I appreciate and I'm moved by all of your support!!!
