A Few Notes
Thank you to David, Grady, and the community at Reddit/Horrorlit for hosting my AMA on Friday. A lot of great questions. Some further notes:
Yes, I’ve an idea for a limited run of Superman. It’s not pretty.
The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All and other stories will be reprinted as paperback this fall. It will be corrected to “stories.”
The paperback reprint of Occultation is on the way. Next month or so is my guess.
I am done with the first Alaska collection except for an original novella. The working title was Ardor, but that has changed. Between writing the original story and waiting for exclusivity clauses on a couple of the other pieces to expire, I won’t be putting this together for submission until late winter or early spring.
Eight or nine new stories are scheduled to appear throught 2014-2015. I’m also working on several other tales, a screenplay, three forewords/essays, and a novel.
Kathe Koja is helming Best Weird Fiction of the Year, Volume 2. I’m taking a break from editing and serving as an awards juror (great experiences, both). I am devoted to somehow accomplishing the projects listed above.
Fearful Symmetries is out. I’ve a novelette in there: “the worms crawl in,” But, look at that cover. it’s full of stars…

Jay Lake
My condolences to the family and friends of author Jay Lake, 1964-2014. Jay and I were colleagues and relative neighbors (Portland and Olympia); we chatted a few times at conventions, but we weren’t close. A couple of years back when my dog Athena was battling cancer, Jay dropped onto my FB page and expressed his sympathy and support for her recovery. A small thing, to tap out a note for somebody’s sick dog. But the small things are the only things, they make up everything. I remember it. So, goodbye and hello, as always, Jay.

Dangerous Visionary
I got ahold of Dangerous Visions when I was ten or eleven. That anthology had something to do with the writer I’d eventually become.
Years later, when I was first starting to get published, Gordon Van Gelder introduced me to Harlan Ellison at the Nebula Convention in Seattle. The seats were all taken, so Harlan sat in Gordon’s lap and chatted us all up. He gave me some career advice; he also introduced me to book-saidisms, sent me an ancient mimeograph essay on the subject. I took it to heart.
Happy birthday, Mr. Ellison. And thanks.

Whiskey River Don’t Run Dry
I drank Jameson during the reading at KGB last week. Prior to that, a bunch of us hung around at Cooper’s Craft & Kitchen. Thanks to Kris Dikeman and Matt Kressel for loading me up on Dickel sour mash. Never had it before, but I’ll be adding a bottle to the cabinet.

Home from KGB
KGB was terrific–Paul Tremblay and I read to a packed house. “Slave Arm” for me; a passage from the forthcoming Head Full of Ghosts for him. Thank you to KGB Bar, Ellen Datlow, Matt Kressel, and Word Books for their hard work hosting the event. Thanks to my agent Janet Reid for hanging with us, and to my girlfriend Jessica for her support. And a big thank you to everybody for turning out.
