Buzzfeed Reading List
Lincoln Michel does a hell of a True Detective reading list for Buzzfeed. A nice mention of The Imago Sequence therein.

True Influences
A neat article at io9 about the influences and easter eggs of True Detective. A small name check for Ligotti and me.

Condition 1
I got caught out in a blizzard very similar to this during the Iditarod of 1991. Left White Mountain for Nome with a team of 13 dogs. The radar guy said, Oh, yeah. You’re good for twelve hours. Well, turns out I was only good for three or four hours .To say the storm hit us like a freight train is close enough. Negative thirties Fahrenheit, gusts in excess of 45-50 knots. You cannot see more than five or six feet, cannot hear anything but the roar. You cannot stand upright when the big gusts hit. It was considered a storm of historical significance.
We were pinned down for 36 hours. The dogs came through all right. I suffered frostbite of everything and almost lost my foot.
Here is an idea of what that kind of weather looks like.

True Detecting
Nic Pizzolatto is the creator of the new hit show True Detective. We met shortly after my first collection came out and have corresponded over the years. I reviewed his collection Between Here and the Yellow Sea on my old LJ, but alas that piece seems to have been lost. Suffice to say, you should go read it–it’s one of the best contemporary short fiction collections around. He followed that up with a noir novel called Galveston, another knockout. It surprises me not at all that he’s hailed as a heavyweight writer. Used to be we all dreamed of movie deals. I increasingly believe cable television is the future.
Nic talks about his influences, the Ligotti connection, and his favorite horror writers at the WSJ blog Speakeasy.

2013 Locus Reading List
The 2013 Locus Reading List is out. John Langan’s brilliant second collection was inexplicably neglected. I strongly suggest you go forth and add it to your own reading list. In a year of excellent horror collections, it’s a standout.
