Editing

While Skyping with my editor last night, I noticed how well he understands me. It occurred to me that, although we have never seen or spoken to one another, we have been in each other's heads to the point that he feels like an old friend. I am a textbook introvert so this relationship of pure exchange of ideas is uniquely satisfying. How about the rest of my author friends? How do you feel about your editors?

Also are any of you going to the Bacchanalia of geekery that is Dragon*Con?

Optimism?

Monday. Unlike most of the people I know, I generally wake up full of hope. Maybe today will be the day I finally beat level 65 of Candy Crush Saga. Maybe today I will find the key to dealing with a difficult client. Maybe today I will actually get it together and make a web site. I should remember that last Monday was the same and none of my goals were reached.

Adventure in cyber communication

I am learning to use Skype. I know, I know, I'm about a decade out of date. You catch up when you can.

Chasing the "Zing"

I have to think that romances are addictive. Addictive substances change brain and body chemistry to provide brief upticks in endorphins. When reading a really good romance I can actually feel this happen. Usually during some emotional scene ( please don't leave me! do you love me the same way I love you?,did you cheat?) I get a feeling not unlike a mild electrical shock. Sex scenes just arouse me. If I want that I can get it from porn. Romance adds the additional emotional dimension that makes it connect at a deeper level with the reader. Am I crazy? Do any of you have that response?

Shouts for Joy

My publisher accepted another book from me: Whipping Boy. Editing starts now! I guess I'm some kind of freak, but I actually like the editing process. The only thing I don't like is the loss of time for working on WIP's. But then, I do have the rest of my life. *crosses fingers and prays to retain mental acuity*

Wedding Bell Blues

I am something of a recluse. I go to work and come home. I hate parties and crowds. So, when I absolutely have to attend a social function I fade into the background and observe.

My husband and I attended a wedding this weekend. The bride comes from an exceedingly wealthy family so I expected...wellI don't know what I expected, but what I got was a herd of faux Kardashians and Sex in the City girls. I did not see a single dress on a woman under forty that wasn't at least two sizes too small. Every, bump, cellulite cluster, and fat roll was displayed under brightly printed knit fabric. They had to know how they looked.

Even the stick thin girls had flaws their apparel highlighted. Is this now the norm?

Book release of To the Highest Bidder

I have am so pleased with the great job my publisher did with my new book To the Highest Bidder. I could not have asked for a better experience. I am a fairly new author ( this is only my second book) so I needed a lot of explanation about the editing process. The staff at Lillibridge Press could not have been more patient and helpful.

If you're looking for more than m/m porn and you enjoy a good adventure with dark overtones and themes, this is the book for you.

Available on Amazon, Lillibridge Press, and Barnes & Noble websites

The Virgin Master (available on Amazon) is getting some amazingly thoughtful reviews. One reader was upset because there were no warnings. While I don't understand why m/m has to have warnings while mainstream fiction does not, I added warnings to the description. My work tends toward the grim end of the scale and I would hate to trigger anybody. That being said, I just read a novel by Lee Child in which a man was nailed to a wall and castrated. His wife was forced to eat his testicles and was then raped. There were no warnings for this. Why not?

Writing

I am working on a contemporary cowboy thing that I am tentatively calling "Change of Plan." It's going much better than I thought it would. I have set a relatively modest goal of 1000 words per day and I am meeting that easily. I need to do a little research on working ranches and I'll be good to go!

Already missed a day

I am going out of my mind. I am working on 6 different novels right now, working 12 hour shifts at work, fighting some kind of virus, and trying to arrange for a new water heater. At least I'm not bored...right?

This is such a contrast to last week when I had a lovely unhurried lunch and conversation with Mary Calmes, Poppy Dennison, and AKH Miles. These wise and warm spirited women took the time to welcome me to the fold and enlighten me about the business of writing. The aura of intelligence rolling off our table must have blinded lesser mortals. LOL.
