On the 12 Day of Christmas... Jesi Struggled to Reveal Her Heart
She shook her head, her breath more tenuous than a single strand of her hair stretched taut. Slowly he stroked it with the back of his hand, from the side of her face all the way down its length, pausing to rub it between his fingers at the end.
She closed her eyes then forced them open again before she was lost. Yet never had she so wanted to be lost to a man's touch. Never.
Paul cleared his throat and stepped back. "Forgive me. I nearly forgot myself."
"Nothing to forgive." She blinked. "You're my husband, after all."
His eyes had grown darker. They'd deepened with some pent up emotion, some... longing.
Now. Tell him now.

On the 11th Day of Christmas... Paul Proposed a Marriage
"Jane," he almost reached for her hand, then constrained himself, grasping his hands together in his lap, "Jane, what about this, what if I were to ask you to marry me?"
The fire crackled. She seemed to be holding her breath while she stared at him.
Yes, she was. It escaped with a whoosh. "If you were to ask me? Is that what you're doing?"
He couldn't tell if she sounded more shocked, put out, or simply perplexed. Now he did take her hand. She let him, but it lay limp in his.
"I'm just trying to help you. If I married you, no one would think poorly of you staying."
"Such charity."
"Not necessarily."
Her eyes widened. "I don't love you."
He was unprepared for the sting of her words. "No...no, of course you don't. I'm not expecting that you do."
She frowned and pulled her hand away. Her eyes glinted suspiciously. "What is it that you do expect?"

On the 10th Day of Christmas... Jesi Reached Rock-Bottom
"Please." Jesi reached out to Maisey, stopping her just as she turned to go.
"What?"
"I don'thave any place to go." She retracted her hand and the woman's eyesnarrowed, studying her.
"What are you asking of me? I already told you, you can't stay here. That is," she paused and gave Jesi a more serious perusal, "not unless you want to work."
Jesi clenched her dress. Yes. She wanted work! "Oh, yes." She closed her eyes for a moment, her head spinning.
"You'd better understand me clearly. I'm not asking you to do the cleaning. Hilda does that. Walter serves the bar. Mary cooks. It's another kind of work I have available."
Jesi's breathing nearly stopped. She couldn't speak, couldn't swallow. She stared back at Maisey.
"Well, I can see you're not interested. Too bad. I think my clients would like you." She turned to go.
Jesi found her voice. "Wait." Her lips trembled, but she managed the words. "I can do that. I -- I need thejob." Her legs began to shake and she plopped down onto the bed.

On the 9th Day of Christmas... Jesi Tricked Her Twin's Fiance
Jesilyn couldn't say just when she'd started enjoying her tricks a little too much, or when the pangs of jealousy had first set in. But before long, she wondered who she was really fooling.
Now, staring at Clay through the moonlit window as he waited for her sister out there in the rose garden, the pangs sharpened. Cori was spoiled. She got everything she wanted, whether she deserved it or not. Who was to say that, in fact, Jesi wasn't the one who deserved Clay?
She scowled. No, he'd never recognize her tonight, and she didn't need much time.

On the 8th Day of Christmas... The Flames of Peshtigo Roared
"Lainey! Listen to me! You have to run. Don't stop for any reason until you reach the river."
"Kelly!" A sob of horror wrenched out of her and their arms clasped. He held onto her and she tried to pull him with her. "I'll push you."
"No!" He shook her. His fingers pinched into her arms, forcing her to pay attention. "You have to run. We've waited too long." His voice nearly disappeared against the growing rumble. It was as if they stood inside a waterfall beneath the tracks of a train trestle while a train rushed overhead.
"But--"
"It's your own best chance." His eyes glistened as dark and gray as Zane's in the furious red darkness. They compelled her to look at him. "The well is mine." He looked to the side of the well and her eyes drew to the rope.

On the 2nd Day of Christmas... Joe Staked His Claim On Lettie
THE GREEN VEIL by Naomi Musch
Joe's expression grew serious. He swallowed and laid down his fork; then he reached over and placed his hand on hers.
"You don't believe it, Lettie, but you know you are my girl."
She shook her head. "No, Joe."
"We can't be friends forever."
"Why not?"
"It just doesn't work that way. I want you to be my girl, Lettie. I want to know I'm coming back to that."
"But I'm not your girl, Joseph. I'm just--"
"Just what? My best friend? That's fine... fine. But think about it. We're growing up, Lettie. Things change, whether you want them to or not."
Available now in all eBook formats, and coming to paperback in January!

Beautifully Written Epic with Dangerous Appeal

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
K.M. Weiland writes without holding back. She pours an onslaught of visual and emotional power into each scene with a style that slams you between the eyes, knocking you into worlds as dangerous as they are beautiful.
I entered Lael, the world of the Dreamlander, with my eyes popping and my imagination spinning out of my head much like happened to Chris Redston, the Gifted and hero of the tale. The land, its colors, creatures, and races of folk overwhelmed me at first as I stepped out of the world I knew into a separate place where dreams are more than we imagined them to be. But as I slowly adapted to my surroundings, like Chris, the people of Lael pulled me into their lives until I was walking through the story with them, fearing, longing, and heart pounding for them.
I read with trepidation, because people were sure to die in this story. I've read each of Ms.Weiland's novels, and I have come to expect a certain aspect of the bittersweet while never knowing quite how things could possibly work out. In Dreamlander, there was much evil to conquer, and it wouldn't be put at bay without an epic battle to end all battles -- a battle to possibly end the worlds.
I love the way the story moves between this world and the world of Lael. Ms. Weiland weaves two tales of adventure into one, and the impact of both worlds on Chris Redston felt real as I read.
Chris Redston learned something in the course of the story. He said, "Life has to be more than a series of random coincidences. What's happened to me here--to us... There has to be a bigger plan." That was a great theme. Always is.
If you like epic fantasy, don't miss Dreamlander.
