"Kelly!" A sob of horror wrenched out of her and their arms clasped. He held onto her and she tried to pull him with her. "I'll push you."
"No!" He shook her. His fingers pinched into her arms, forcing her to pay attention. "You have to run. We've waited too long." His voice nearly disappeared against the growing rumble. It was as if they stood inside a waterfall beneath the tracks of a train trestle while a train rushed overhead.
"But--"
"It's your own best chance." His eyes glistened as dark and gray as Zane's in the furious red darkness. They compelled her to look at him. "The well is mine." He looked to the side of the well and her eyes drew to the rope.
