In Lark Ascending, Eve says she doesn't want revenge. But a few chapters later she's blowing glass at the institute's face.... Can you explain this for me please?

SPOILER ALERT for the Skylark Trilogy!

Eve does say she’s not doing what she’s doing for revenge. But the character of Eve came about from that sage advice that every good villain ought to be the hero of his or her own story—Eve is very good at talking the talk and convincing herself that her actions are nobly based and for the greater good. In the twisted little recesses of her mind, destroying the “normal” people is the greater good. She’s ending the war. She may want them all to die for her...

This is one of those “wait, what?” moments. Neil Gaiman was one of my absolute favorite writers growing up, and seeing my book in a picture with his book is making my head go all wonky.

(You’d think I’d have gotten used to this sort of thing by now. I hope I never do.)
