Email's down again today although hopefully it'll go back up to give me time enough to download and read all messages before leaving. Back the 4th. Online maybe. (I will have laptop and free wireless at hotel).

The event went very well, with a pretty full house, despite the crappy weather and the fact that several people who would have come were already on the west coast for the World Fantasy Convention. Refreshments were provided by Jim Freund

Vivian Maier, street photographer

Maier's work was discovered by John Maloof, who bought thousands of her undeveloped negatives during a Chicago auction of the contents of her storage locker after her death last April.

Midway Message from the Gyre

"These photographs of albatross chicks were made just a few weeks ago on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking."
