Quiet time

I know I've been awfully quiet, except for the reading announcement yesterday but I'm finishing up Best Horror #2 and have a lot to still read and then reread. I've chosen five stories so far and have 41 stories on my short list to consider. And I'm still in the middle of several original anthologies plus have to check out the original stories in some more collections.

My dad's still in the rehab center and will be there at least a couple more weeks while we work out how to arrange 24/7 care ...

2010

Here's a post to welcome in the new year. My ONE resolution (and one I believe I can achieve) is to clean all the books out of my kitchen so that I can throw a dinner party or two this year. That means that the books in cartons and piled in the kitchen have to be moved and so do the ones on the kitchen table. The process will require more cleaning out of my storage lockers, moving books from my apt INTO the lockers (I'd also like to get rid of one of the lockers to save money).

What I did over...

Birthday/New year's eve ---aighhhh!

Yes, it's my birthday today which is why I never go to New Year's Eve parties any more. They're always celebrating the END of my birthday and so they depress me. Instead, I've thrown dinner parties in my apt (when I had a usable kitchen minus books on the table/floor), gone out to dinner with some friends, and more recently go to a friend's house for dinner. Which I'm doing this evening.

I've also hit a milestone with this one. Which is weird? Who'd have thought I'd ever be this old? Not I ;-)...

Xmas weekend part 2

Movies watched Saturday night were Torn Curtain by Hitchcock with Paul Newman and Julie Andrews (whose teeth I wanted to knock out during the first about 20 minutes of the movie). The whole thing is pretty preposterous plotwise --American physicist apparently defects to behind the Iron Curtain because the US govt stops funding his anti-nuke research. But he's really trying to get the pertinent info from a Polish scientist. Paul Newman gorgeous as per usual.

27 Dresses with Katherine Heigl--wom...

What I got for Xmas (part one)

A tummy ache from eating and drinking far too much last night at my friend Claire's. We started with champagne and more champagne as we ate the appetizer of shrimp with three different dip choices (a few carrots and cucumber bits as well). Then an interesting cheese and crackers. Claire bought a little jar of the best caviar she could find, which about 8 of us sampled. We had enough for two toastpoints each. More champagne. I cleaned and dried the lettuce for the caesar salad. We also noshed...
