The Tough Choices (Part I: Silencing the Techie Talk)

You know that blogpost I've been promising concerning Rafe, Askana, Billi, and their respective futures?

Make sure you're sitting down, because this is it.

I could just make it short and sweet, but you all deserve a lot better than that. Also, I don't think I can do that. I try for "short and sweet" and then, after I say what I have to say about what I really need to touch base on, it's 3000 words later.

Besides, would you all expect any less from me? After all, if you're reading this blog...

Come on, Baby, Cover Me!

Final Covert Art for Phoenix Rising

click image to view full size

We've been sitting on this cover art for months!

When Pip Ballantine and I first saw it, we were over the moon. Imagine the heartbreak when our editor, Diana Gill, told us "You can't post this anywhere just yet." To watch the evolution of this cover, from the earlier drafts to the final product, has been a real trip; and while this is my fifth novel, it feels like my first.

Who is the artist? No clue. We know the artists were in-house and open to our input...

The Price of Publicity

I promised myself to work on my blogging skills. It's a bit like getting back into shape, you know? I'm struggling to get back into a routine, and everyone around me is telling to cut myself a break considering the year I have been facing. The reality is, just like staying in shape, I have to do this. Next year, as many of you know, I will be returning to novel-length fiction with my first mass market paperback novel, Phoenix Rising: A Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences Novel. Me. The Kiwi...

Returning to Philcon

It's been a while, but as I step back into the arena of promotion (alongside Philippa Ballantine), I am planning to get back into the habit of letting people know where I'll be. This weekend it is Philcon, Philadelphia's premier Science Fiction convention…held in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Blame the Martians.

Here's where I'll be Friday and Saturday:

FRIDAY
9:00 PM, Crystal Ballroom Three
THE ROOTS OF STEAM PUNK:  VICTORIAN SCIENCE FICTION
with Richard Stout (mod), Philippa Ballantine, and Gil...

GUEST BLOGPOST: Real Women Have Heads

As many of you know, I collaborate with a kiwi. When Philippa Ballantine and I get together, silliness and trouble usually ensue. Whether it is podcasting or The Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences, people tend to really grok what Pip and I produce.

But this time, the rant is 100% New Zealand made.

Celebrating the upcoming release of her solo title and mass market paperback debut Geist, Pip brings her own gripes and grumbles to my desk. The rant she's got delivers a swift kick to the jimmies to...

Stranger on a Train XIV

And now for something completely different: I'm not alone on this ride, am not in Virginia. Heck, I'm not even on the East Coast.

Sonic Boom and I are back on US soil after two weeks in New Zealand. Our ride into town, though, wasn't able to drive us all the way into San Francisco, so we are taking the rail into the city for a playdate with Starla & Scott Hutchton and crew. While I find myself slipping back into a USA state-of-mind, SB sees today as just another grand adventure.

Sometimes I...

Kia Ora from the Future!

Hi, everyone!

It's been a week and what a week it has been. Sonic Boom, fresh off her first-ever plane ride, walked the now-working set of Hobbiton, settled in Rotorua for the night, got up close and personal with Ella the Lion Cub at the Paradise Valley Reserve, and then worked the Poi Dancing as the youngest in attendance at Te Puia. Safe to say, we're having a blast! There will be YouTube videos coming.

This week, we're looking ahead to WorldCon 68, also known as AussieCon 4. Pip...

I May Not Be Able to Hold Your Phone, but I Can Count!

I have been accused of being a real devotee of the house that Steve built. I admit that yes, I do love me my Apple gear…

MacPro…check
MacBook Pro…check
iPod…check
AppleTV…check
iPad…check

I have drank the Kool-Aid and I want more. I am impatiently waiting for October so I can treat myself to an iPhone 4 for my birthday. I love-love-love-love Apple…

…but today, my dearest love punched me in the nose. Really, really hard.

From Mur Lafferty's Twitter feed came a posting that made me go...

GUEST BLOGPOST: Wherein the Tinker's Art Is Discussed

I'm looking to return to my blogging habits because, dashitall, I do miss blogging so. As my last steampunk entry featuring the delicious Gail Carriger, was quite the scandal (and therefore, popular), I turned to another author stepping into realms of cog and gear for opinion and commentary. Gentle readers, I introduce to you to O.M. Grey, a lass quite shy when standing within range of the camera obscura. She also claims to be a complete novice when it comes to all things shiny and modern ...

Tee Morris Cooks Up Erotica ala DARK!

At the end of 2009, I was invited by The Chef to return to the Erotica ala Carte kitchens for another round of saucy, spicy fun. My menu items on this go-round were:

Female P.O.V.
Time travel
Artificial Intelligence
Leather and Lace

The end result was "Dagger of the Mind" and my return to podcasting fiction. In light of so much talk and controversy concerning it and coupled with the way my year has been, I have been ready — so very ready — to do this.

But be warned…this story goes dark. WAY
