David Cameron to launch StartUp Britain business scheme - Worldnews.com
David Cameron to launch StartUp Britain business scheme - Worldnews.com
This article came across my desk yesterday!
David Cameron, Prime Minister UK, urging would-be entrepreneurs to "make it happen" and help drive the economic recovery in Britain.
This is in fact a reality near and dear to my heart. I believe the workplace requires a new way of thinking. We need "change-ready" companies and employees to lead the way: to dig in, rebuild, and feed the recovery process.
Does an incentive like this work? It's yet to be seen.
However, I love the idea of championing the private sector to self-empower and step-up taking an affirmative role in the economic recovery process. This is far more conducive to effecting positive change and growth than simply throwing more dollars at the problem. Think about it -- the money has to come from somewhere and ultimately would mean slamming an already limping economy with higher interest rates and taxes.
I wonder what percentage of the workforce is best suited to be an entrepreneur? It's not for everyone!
I do however believe that everyone can actively participate by honing and developing what I call "entrepreneurial flair" - an attitude that begins with accepting that you can and will make a difference.
Whether you use your "entrepreneurial flair" to create a new start-up business or to advance your career is up to you. The big picture is we need to make a difference, all of us, and the time is now!

RON SEXSMITH - LONG PLAYER LATE BLOOMER
The Venue - The Historic Gayety Theatre in Collingwood
On March 4th we ventured to Collingwood ON to see Ron Sexsmith perform. The Gayety is a fabulous venue - quaint and intimate offering soda and popcorn with retro elegance.
Ash Koley opened - a treat and well worth googling if you don't know them.
Then talented and humble Ron took the stage. With tussled hair and bright eyes, he immediately got down to business. There was a sense of nervousness in the air tinged with great anticipation as he and the band started out.
We attended the concert with long-time fans. I, at the time only knew of Ron. Of course I did my homework before the concert though. My comment to this end is that our true Canadian talent is not always championed and recognized as it should be -- but this is a rant for another day.
I enjoyed the show. For me it was fresh and new. Yet as the days passed I continued to replay some of my favorite songs from Ron's new album, Long Player Late Bloomer -- I guess you would call me a Long Listener. I love to sit and read along while listening to songs especially when the song writer is so clever to impart lyrics that are insightful and memorable.
My favs? Songs: Get in line / Late Bloomer / Eye CandyPhrases: All the rooms are full of empties, the wine attempts to temp me / ALL of Eye Candy
At the end of the show after two overwhelming standing ovations, the band began to leave the stage. As a last minute gesture Ron turned to the audience one last time and flashed a quick wave. It was a glimpse of "the boy inside the man" (as best put by Tom Cochrane). I wish him every success!

TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT!!!
There are many times in golf when you need to take your best shot. Say for example you have hit over a ravine or water hazard; you need an all-carry shot. One of the biggest mistakes you can make at this point is to go digging through your bag for a scrub ball (a golf ball found, usually while golfing that may need a cleaning). The reason for this is two-fold. First off, you never know if the scrub ball you found in your travels through the bush or retrieved from the water was newly lost or lost the year before. You could end up grabbing a dead ball (a golf ball that has lost its elasticity and bounce) in which case you just made a tough shot, tougher. Secondly, though when you decide to reach for a scrub ball you have already decided that you are not going to make the shot. This sounds more like you're deciding to take your worst shot! When you have to take your best shot, splurge and get a new ball for the occasion. A new ball is an affirmation that you're ready to take your best shot. So, what will it be? Are you going to take your best shot?

LAUNCH EVE FOR 3 OFF THE TEE: TARGETING SUCCESS!
It is launch eve of my new book 3 Off the Tee: Targeting Success and I am over the top excited!
There is a sense of exhilaration, intense and wondrous, as though it were my first memorable Christmas Eve (meaning the first one I can actually remember.)
I wait in anticipation. I expect nothing short of the full bravado of a mile long marching band complete with batons twirling.
I almost expect the Kool-Aid guy to burst through the wall and shout out "Oh Yeah..." like he does on Family Guy and then slowly back up leaving a pile of rubble on my office floor.
What will happen, what will happen?
Thanks to all that have helped make this possible! You know who you are and you rock!!!
Cheers to all!

WHERE IS YOUR BUCKET LIST?
Where is your bucket list?
Do you in fact have a list -- a physical piece of paper with your dreams and quests detailed and prioritized?
Have you been strategically crossing targets off you list over the years?
When I have a bucket list quest to tackle I write it out -- look at it every which way and keep it in my face.
Example: If I wanted to learn to become a better guitarist, I would park it in front of the TV. Then I would pick it up every time I passed by. I would play a scale or riff or blues chord progression. Before you know it... you are getting better!!!
I would also write my own music -- ya really! And sing! Why not?
I wrote my first song on accordion when I was eight. I still remember bits of it. The tune was way too similar to a song on the radio at the time and the lyrics were about vampires -- hey I was eight!!! -- but I did it -- I figured it out and was able to play the song from start to finish.
I guess I'm an in my face kinda girl. I'm visual and like to see progress. I even start everyday with lists of things to do, crossing off completed items throughout the day. At the end of the day I rewrite my lists for the next day. It's very effective.
So, curious as I am, I ask you -- where is your bucket list?
