Why don’t I like Heist stories?

So here’s something I’ve been puzzling over.

I like Mystery stories- ones where a clever character tries to puzzle through a challenge and then put all the pieces together to solve a problem. (Murder, Puzzle, whatever.) And you would think that I would like Heist stories (Ocean’s 11, Leverage, Lupin III, etc) just as much, if not more, because they’re just the flipside of mysteries. Heck, they’re even better than mysteries in theory because the characters are hyper-proactive, usually very smar...

Project Play- Aftermath

Today I attended Project Play, London’s first (or is that most recent? not sure) gaming convention of the universal sort. And more!

Fanshawe’s Student Union building was filled with game sellers, producers, and players. It also played host to Doll fans, Cosplayers, and Anime fans,...

My Second Novel- Little Gou and the Crocodile Princess, is done!

In Summer, 2008 I started what was to be my first novel- Little Gou and the Crocodile Princess. A thrilling WuXia adventure story centered around everyone’s favorite gambler in his first long-form adventure. I wrote the first 40,000 words of the story at a rapid pace, with everything coming together like a finely crafted puzzle. It was great, it was fun, it was going to rock!

Then I hit writer’s block with the story so hard that I think it gave my grandchildren a bloody nose.

Try as I might, I...

Jeremy Rifkin: The Future

If I had to pick three words to describe this interview with Jeremy Rifkin, they would be terrifying, informative, and uplifting.

Why? Watch it and find out. A great interview.

Mind you, if you pay attention, he also says we’re about to be hit by another financial crisis. Sadly I think he’s right on the money, and this time Canada won’t be safe.

The Jetsons take place before The Flintstones?

So I was part of a conversation where some friends were discussing this video:

The Horrifying Truth About Life in ‘The Jetsons’ Universe — powered by Cracked.com

And one of my friends who uses the name Mysterious Pants brought up the following mind-blowing theory:

“Actually, I like the idea that the Flinstones is, in actuality, the future of the Jetsons after all the computer A.I. and robots leave Earth. Humanity degenerates and, without industrial machinery, relies on the ancestors of genetical...

4 Things Science Fiction Needs to Bring Back | Cracked.com

A truly great list that I agree with 100%!

It’s tempting to look around at today’s literary scene, with its Twilight and its Fifty Shades of Grey, and wonder if we shouldn’t just flush the whole goddamn concept of written language down the toilet — maybe start again with some sort of hybrid colorwheel/odor system for communicating thoughts. Strangely, the one genre thriving in the swamp of modern literature seems to be science fiction. It’s kind of appropriate, actually: All of our crazy high...
