Hey guys! I’m really thankful for all the recent reblogs, especially of my Shadow and Bone (by the lovely Leigh Bardugo!) fanart. I just wanted to say you guys are really rad!

On another note, if it’s not too much to ask, I’d also super duper appreciate it if you wouldn’t edit my posts in any…

OH, DARKLING. You brooding, scary thing you. Someone posted photos of Ezra Miller last night and I can’t get the ponytail out of my head. There’s also a few scenes where he runs his hand through his hair or does this half-smile and I just. Buh. Scrumptious human imagery.

Q: How many times have I drawn That One Scene (Yes You Know What I’m Talking About, That Scene)? A: Too many times. But you can’t see it yet, not yet…

It is so amazing to see how Irene imagines these characters. And check out the Grisha tent, too!

It was such a great event. Thanks to everyone who came out!

(Also it was a good opportunity for me to try to—unsuccessfully—get secrets about book 2 out of Leigh Bardugo, help Dan Krokos come up with a catch phrase, talk culture shock with Susan Dennard, and bond with fellow Chicagoan Erica O’Rourke. AND wear my green pants in public, which is clearly the most important thing. Priorities: I have them.)

Alina meets the stag of Morozova’s herd, Shadow and Bone.

This was a beautiful scene, something straight out of a Miyazaki film mixed with Russian fairytale. His dark, wet eyes, his silvery antlers, the beating of his ancient, knowing heart… The stag is like a living god, elusive and stunning. The moment was so tranquil, so silent, I could practically hear the snow falling.

From the genius of Leigh Bardugo. Much affection and credit also goes to Kay Nielsen and Klimt, my two artist gods, and from whom I’m constantly and shamelessly stealing from.

So incredible. And the cover of Shadow and Bone was almost a Kay Nielsen painting.

ironmouse:

Shadow and Bone sketches, part one! Still trying to feel out the design for everyone, but in general, I imagined Alina to be petite, Mal fuzzy, Genya a dark red vixen, and the Darkling this sleek, sharp, slightly effeminate thing full of handsome. There are so many sketches in my moleskine I don’t even know where to begin.

I have died and gone to fan art heaven.

The Top 10 Writers Block...

The Top 10 Writers Block Quotes

1. Writer’s block? I’ve heard of this. This is when a writer cannot write, yes? Then that person isn’t a writer anymore. I’m sorry, but the job is getting up in the fucking morning and writing for a living. ~Warren Ellis

2. I learned to produce whether I wanted to or not. It would be easy to say oh, I have writer’s block, oh, I have to wait for my muse. I don’t. Chain that muse to your desk and get the job done. ~Barbara Kingsolver

3. All writing is difficult. The most you can hope for is a day when it goes reasonably easily. Plumbers don’t get plumber’s block, and doctors don’t get doctor’s block; why should writers be the only profession that gives a special name to the difficulty of working, and then expects sympathy for it? ~Philip Pullman

4. I’ve often said that there’s no such thing as writer’s block; the problem is idea block. When I find myself frozen–whether I’m working on a brief passage in a novel or brainstorming about an entire book–it’s usually because I’m trying to shoehorn an idea into the passage or story where it has no place. ~Jeffery Deaver

5. You can’t think yourself out of a writing block; you have to write yourself out of a thinking block. ~John Rogers

6. There’s no such thing as writer’s block. That was invented by people in California who couldn’t write. ~Terry Pratchett

7. I haven’t had trouble with writer’s block. I think it’s because my process involves writing very badly. My first drafts are filled with lurching, clichéd writing, outright flailing around. Writing that doesn’t have a good voice or any voice. But then there will be good moments. It seems writer’s block is often a dislike of writing badly and waiting for writing better to happen. ~Jennifer Egan

8.Writer’s block doesn’t exist…lack of imagination does. ~Cyrese Covelli

9. Writer’s Block is just an excuse by people who don’t write for not writing. ~Giando Sigurani

10. Discipline allows magic. To be a writer is to be the very best of assassins. You do not sit down and write every day to force the Muse to show up. You get into the habit of writing every day so that when she shows up, you have the maximum chance of catching her, bashing her on the head, and squeezing every last drop out of that bitch. ~Lili St. Crow

September 1, 2012

Hi Leigh! I was recommended Shadow & Bone (Gathering Dark? Is there a preference?) recently and I was aching for a good read after being deprived for 4 years (also known as Art School). I read it in its entirety in 3 hours and I LOVED. it. It's so visually

Oooh! I’d be honored to see S&B inspired art from you!

Thanks for the kind words. I’m so glad you enjoyed the book and that you chose S&B to relieve the art school fiction drought. (Shadow and Bone is the US title and The Gathering Dark is the UK title, so no real preference.) I also appreciated the wardrobe shout out as I have a serious fondness for textiles and costuming.
