how would you win the game of thrones?

Dude. I would LOSE the Game of Thrones. Also the Hunger Games. Also any game that didn’t require a lot of napping. Seriously, you will find me in a quiet corner of Westeros, eating a nice pudding, and waiting this whole thing out.

Who do you feel would be perfect in playing the role of The Darkling in a movie version of S & B? And how about Alina and Mal? I have my own visual but I'm curious what yours is :) And how do you go about naming characters?

The thing is… I really like hearing/seeing the way that readers cast these roles without me getting in the way. That’s why I’m always iffy on book trailers.

I will say that an actor’s presence and the spirit that person brings to the character is so much more important to me than hair or eye color.

do you think it's a waste of time to major in creative writing in college?

Everyone’s path is different and nothing is a waste of time unless you let it be.

Hi Leigh! I loved Shadow and Bone, glancing over the jacket copy recently made me curious about your original query letter. Would you be willing to share it as an example for those of us who are aspiring writers? No worries if not, just very curious about

I’m still working up the courage to post my original query, but I can say that less is more when it comes to a query. What you’re really trying to convey is the setup, the INITIAL conflict, and the stakes. Reading the flap copy on book jackets is a great way to get a feel for this.

You should do another chat sometime~. Sadly, I had business to attend to, and couldn't make it this time, but I would have been there, if I could have~. Maybe I'll catch ya next time, when I'm not as busy. ~ :3

Eep. This is an old one, but I’ll definitely be doing a twitter chat before the launch of Siege and Storm. And you should all come visit me and pummel me with questions.

I want to thank you so much for setting the standard so high for YA fantasy. Siege and Storm is a masterpiece of a fantasy and I think you are such an amazing writer and I'm kind of DYING to read S&S. (this post summed up, I appreciate existence). :)

Thanks for the kind words! I have to say, I think authors like Tamora Pierce, Diana Wynne Jones, Susan Cooper, Sherwood Smith, Anne McCaffrey, Megan Whalen Turner, Jacqueline Carey, Robin McKinley (and many others) set the real standard. I’m happy to trail after them like that terrier who wants to be friends with the bulldog. I’m fairly sure he wears a bowler hat.

Thanks again and so glad you’re looking forward to Siege and Storm :)
