"I closed my palm, and the beam disappeared, then in a flash I let the light bloom around me and the Darkling, wrapping us in a glowing sphere that surrounded us like a flowing, golden halo. He looked at me and held out his hand, sending black ribbons of darkness climbing through the sphere, twisting and turning."

They pray for you now, I thought bleakly. But if the Darkling has his way, they’ll come to hate you.

Yes, that’s the ACTUAL dress from the cover of These Broken Stars, the fantastic new sci-fi YA written by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. THE dress went on tour with a bunch of different YA authors and I took it to see Thor 2: The Dark World. (Okay, maybe Marie Lu and I went to see Thor 2, but the dress came along.)
Dress: Why don’t they give Loki more screen time?
Me: Right?
Dress: More importantly, why didn’t you buy me Junior Mints?
Me: You’re clothing.
Dress: That’s just rude.
Me: Shhh!
I really loved this book and fell for both leads: Tarver—a true soldier, convincingly written and deserving of all swoons. Lilac—the sheltered rich girl with surprising reserves of courage and ingenuity. Great action, a beautiful and believable romance, and an eerie mystery that keeps the pages turning. Also, SPACE!

Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner are longtime friends and sometime flatmates who have traveled the world (but not yet the galaxy), covering every continent between them. They are sure outer space is only a matter of time. Meagan, who is also the author of the Skylark trilogy, currently lives in Asheville, NC, while Amie lives in Melbourne, Australia. Although they currently live apart, they are united by their love of space opera, road trips, and second breakfasts.

just curious about the origins of your artwork. where did you get the legends you base your work on, or are those also your creations?
And Lo, there strode across the land a harbinger of the foul accretions yawning from the gulf. And up he raised his arm to the cloud-ridden peaks and oak-rimed vales and from them came serpents in glory and crowned beasts wreathed with fury.
"Take up your quill, ye wretched husk," whispered the void, "and with it inscribe upon parchment many fuck-words and hit the people with your man-dazzle so that upon the earth there be many wailings and gnashing and rending of beard."
And so it came to pass that this business was emblazoned across the internet. That brings us to now.
