Let's Change the Narrative

So...I've been in a bubble.  Not like a crazy bubble, because I still *heard* about Miley's performance on Sunday, but I just saw it now.  And after a week of hearing other people talk about about it, after a week of starting grad school and being so crazy inspired by it, I just don't get what the big deal is.

Because here's what I saw:

1.  Plus size, or otherwise non size-zero women being represented and celebrated on stage

2.  Women who weren't wearing heels as they danced on stages that look shiny and slick and dangerous

3.  Miley Cyrus--a young woman with a bangin' body rocking out in clothes that ultimately didn't actually reveal anything (I mean seriously, that's like the most covered up version of a bikini I've ever seen) embracing her sexuality without using another person to do it.  Yes, she grinds up on Robin Thicke at two points, but a) they don't seem to actually touch, b) she's actually doing the same dance she was doing before, there just happens to be a man standing behind her.

4.  A confident girl.

You know what I'm afraid of?  I'm afraid of her being called trash because she sticks out her tongue and strips (albeit only a little).  I'm afraid of Robin Thicke not being indicted in public opinion for a song that (as dancy and catchy as it is) kind of promotes a situation where women don't have a lot of agency or choice.

I'm not really afraid of Miley Cyrus in latex granny panties.

But hell, I applaud her.

ARCs!

ZOMG THE ARCs ARE HERE!!!!

This is not actually the final cover, but it's pretty close and I think it's GORGEOUS.  I'll let you know as soon as the new cover is available!

ALSO, this means people will want to, you know, get their hands on a copy.  Understandable!  It's so pretty!  But because I acknowledge that I'm really bad with email (and I'm starting grad school, so it's only going to get worse), I've set up a form where you can make such requests a bit easier on me!

ITS HERE!

Boston Teen Author Festival!

Hey Guys,

First, I will be appearing at Boston Teen Author Festival at Cambridge Public Library on September 21st, 2013!  Woot!  I know a LOT of other authors will be there, but I'm not sure who yet...I'll keep you posted!

But in spreading the word for this, the organizers are also spreading the word about a CONTEST!  So if you know a Boston-area teen that fits the bill, send this to them!!

See you there, and good luck!!

The Sound and the Tumblr

SO!

Do you remember when I told you that SCARLET would soon have a voice?  Well she does!  The audiobook is available for pre-order, which you can do with an Audible account or as a single title.  I AM SO EXCITED TO HEAR IT!

The narrator is Helen Stern, and I can't tell you enough good things about her.  I had the privilege of being involved in the selection process, and I thought Helen really captured that addictive quality of Scarlet's voice--it's different, but once you start listening it's difficult to stop.  I listened to all the samples while cleaning my house (exciting, right?) and Helen's was the one that totally carried me away.  She really understands the characters and the tone and I can't wait to hear the rest of the book (yes, even I haven't heard all of it yet!).

Super cool!

And I hope that I'll have more news to tell you guys about LADY THIEF in the near future, but for now, my lips are sealed and my (audiobook) headphones are in.

AND I wanted to apologize for being so vacant on the blog--but it's really because I'm kind of obsessing over Tumblr right now, and I'll be posting a lot more frequently on there (and you can ask me questions, which, it turns out, is a way better forum than the question form I've had before).  So if you have questions--ask me here!

I think that's it!

SCAR 2 Has a Name!

And a date!  And a PREORDER PAGE!

Do you want to know the title?

Maybe. Kind of. Alright, well--

Nope, definitely too tired. Alright, Lucy, you wake up, and I'll share the description of the book.

Scarlet’s true identity has been revealed, but her future is uncertain. Her forced marriage to Lord Gisbourne threatens Robin and Scarlet’s love, and as the royal court descends upon Nottingham for the appointment of a new Sheriff, the people of Nottingham hope that Prince John will appoint their beloved Robin Hood. But Prince John has different plans for Nottingham that revolve around a fateful secret from Scarlet’s past even she isn’t yet aware of. Forced to participate at court alongside her ruthless husband, Scarlet must bide her time and act the part of a noblewoman—a worthy sacrifice if it means helping Robin’s cause and a chance at a future with the man she loves. With a fresh line of intrigue and as much passion as ever, the next chapter in Scarlet’s tale will have readers talking once again.

Well what are you waiting for? Tell me the title!Okay, Lucy.  If you're ready for it, the title is...

LADY THIEF!

As of right now, it's also available for pre-order here, but it won't be out in the world until February 11th, 2014!

That's only 259 days.  Or 8 months, 14 days.  Or 37 weeks, or 372,960 minutes, or 22,377,600 seconds.  Only 22 million seconds!!

I am so crazy excited to be able to share this book with you guys.  I know it's been a long wait, but thank you so much for sticking with me and SCARLET--this is my dream and you are the ones who make it a reality.

And, you know, Lucy.

But thank you--and YAY!!!
