What a Wonderful World #MusicMonday
It’s shocking to me I’ve never featured “What a Wonderful World” on my blog before today.
With all that’s going on, the song hardly seems appropriate. We have a pandemic not yet under control, a shortage of vaccines, the emergence of new variants. Covid is just part of the many problems the world is facing now.
And then I think back to 1967 when Louis Armstrong recorded this song.
At the time, America was experiencing an upheaval with the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement. The Summer of ...

Biko #MusicMonday
Covid19 was declared a pandemic March 11, 2020.
I added Marvin Gaye’s song “What’s Going On” shortly thereafter using the Playing For Change version, an organization that digitally connects different artists around the world for a song. At the time, I was shellshocked, digesting copious amounts of information, dealing with upended plans, changing routines.
I’m sure we all were.
Bad news pulled me along in a year that was full of bad news. In addition to Covid, there were the Hong Kong protests, ...

800 Word Story ~ Margaret’s Final Term
Welcome to 800 Word Story, a segment where author, Bill Kirton and I write a story together.
In a nutshell—four parts of 200 words each.
I started this one, handed it off to Bill for part 2. He sent it back to me for part 3, and I returned it to him to write the conclusion. No story discussion ahead of time. Hope you enjoy!

Prompt: Margaret had this habit of spitting. It began to get on my nerves.
Parts 1 and 3 and title: Eden
Parts 2 and 4: Bill

Painting in the Year of the Ox
Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, or Lunar New Year is a festive time for families to gather, to share good wishes for health, happiness, and prosperity. A banquet-style feast with dishes such as whole steamed fish, longevity noodles, and dumplings are served because they symbolize good luck and fortune.
In the past, I would celebrate with family at a restaurant in the city. That’s not happening this year, so I spent time writing this post instead.
The Lunar New Year is not j...

Stay Sane and Carry On #MusicMonday
I was looking for musical inspiration everywhere and came up empty this week. It’s been a struggle to write this post, a struggle to do a lot of things, unfortunately.
I’m really disheartened by the vaccine situation in Canada. It doesn’t matter how robust our roll-out plan might be, we can’t roll out what we don’t have.
Our Prime Minister remains “very confident” that his government will meet its end-of-September goal of vaccinating every Canadian who wants to be inoculated. What does he mean b...

Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right #MusicMonday
There’s been a lot written about this song and its meaning. Who knows what it means, really? Unless you were in Dylan’s head at the time he wrote it, it’s all speculation. So … for what it’s worth, here’s what it means to me. I meant to post the song at the start of January,...Continue reading Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right #MusicMonday →

Black Pumas #MusicMonday
It’s hard to believe it’s been less than a week since President Biden and Vice-President Harris were sworn in. I watched the majority of the inauguration ceremony and then the evening’s festivities. The prime-time concert called: “Celebrating America” featured musical guests Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, John Legend, and others, hosted live at...Continue reading Black Pumas #MusicMonday →

Anderson East at Daryl’s House #MusicMonday
I’ve listened to this song at least twenty times this weekend, if not more. We’re back at Daryl Hall’s house, and this time Anderson East is singing one of my favourite songs, “She’s Gone.” East is an American musician from Athens, Alabama, and his soulful, raspy voice reminds me of Joe Cocker at times. I...Continue reading Anderson East at Daryl’s House #MusicMonday →
