Bright Places
The lovely Jill Bellomy is a librarian and self-proclaimed book fanatic. I was lucky enough to meet her at ALA last week, where she was given an advance reading copy (or ARC) of my YA novel, All the Bright Places. The book inspired her to create a wall of her own bright places.

American Blonde giveaways are coming...
Check in tomorrow for details!
But for now, here’s a tribute to my favorite American Blonde, Carole Lombard. (Not only is she Velva Jean’s favorite actress, she’s mine.)
Born Jane Alice Peters, Lombard came to Hollywood by way of Indiana. In the late 1930s, the girl who invented screwball comedy was Hollywood’s highest paid star. In spite of a car accident that scarred her left cheek, she was an icon of glamor and one of the most photographed stars of Hollywood’s golden age. She was beautiful, but she wasn’t afraid to look silly. She could be elegant, but she could also be one of the boys. In 1939, she married Clark Gable. He called her Ma, she called him Pa.
She died tragically in 1942, flying home from a war bond tour. All the passengers— including Lombard and her beloved mother— were killed when their plane crashed into the side of a mountain on the outskirts of Las Vegas. Lombard was thirty-three.
Gable was devastated. He flew to the crash site and searched the wreckage for her wedding ring. Weeks later, he enlisted in the Army, something Lombard— who had been traveling the country speaking to troops and selling war bonds— had been imploring him to do.
After Carole Lombard’s death, President Roosevelt awarded her the Medal of Freedom as the first American woman killed during the line of duty during World War II.
"Of all the good friends I made in this business, Carole Lombard is the one who impressed me the most. Her humor, intelligence, and enormous kindness made her everybody’s favorite around the studio. And with her lively personality there was never a dull moment when she was around."

“You can trust that little screwball with your life or your hopes or your weaknesses, and she wouldn’t even know how to think about letting you down.” — Clark Gable
