A traditional Cree parable depicts a rabbit who calmly smokes a pipe unafraid that he is being hunted by the panther. Why is the rabbit unafraid?

Because the rabbit understands that the panther resides in the pipe, and the pipe resides in the panther.

Why are the links to all of Vince Larues illustration in your blogspot blog broken and no longer available?

Because I no longer use Google products, so my blogspot blog is no longer online. Vince Larue’s drawings can be found at his blog:http://vincelarue.wordpress.com/

Over the past 30 years, since the Presidency of Ronald Reagan, the gap between rich and poor has widened tremendously.

Three decades ago, Americans’ income tended to grow at roughly similar rates, no matter how much you made. But since about 1980, income has grown most for the very rich. For the poorest 20 percent of families, it has dropped.

Incomes for the top 1 percent of American wage earners soared 31 percent from 2009 through 2012, after adjusting for inflation, according to data co...

Robert Burns: Scottish Zen

Today is the birthday of Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet, and one of the great Zen poets of the West. Sadly, I haven’t managed to find any vegetarian haggis in Portland.

But pleasures are like poppies spread,
You seize the flower, its bloom is shed;
Or like the snow falls in the river,
A moment white - then melts for ever;
Or like the borealis race,
That flit ere you can point their place;
Or like the rainbow’s lovely form
Evanishing amid the storm.
