Florida, the future and the letter F: #ZtoAchallenge
Today's word is Florida.
Why am I writing about Florida you might ask. It is because I am in Jacksonville today. I am here to help a business develop their strategic plan and implement it across their facility. I am a Six Sigma/Lean/Continuous Improvement mentor.
I love what I do for a living because it is very rewarding. Helping others "see" waste, and dysfunction is not always easy. Sometimes there are difficult conversations that have to occur. Sometimes people are angry or frustrated working in a dysfunctional environment and I have to help them by giving them tools and techniques to change the environment into a positive, proactive environment.
I am basically lazy. I like to do things the easy way, and only once. When I get up in the morning, I like to know what I have to get done for that day. I have short and long term goals and every day I make it a point of getting 3-5 things done that move me toward my future visions and dreams.
While I don't know what is going to happen in my future exactly, I do know that if I dream, form a plan, and then take action, I can usually get where I want to go.
What are you excited about for your future?

Imagine
Today I woke up to the news of at least 89 dead in Joplin. I can only imagine how devastating this tornado season has been to the southeast and mid-west. My heart goes out to all those poor folks who have lost their homes, their possessions, and their friends and family members.
With global warming, it has been projected that storms will continue in intensity, the oceans will rise, and areas such as Florida will eventually be under water. I don't know if I believe that the path of the world is being impacted by activities here on earth. I tend to believe it is just a natural evolution of our galaxy but there is no disputing the fact that the polar caps are melting. I worry about kids being born at this time, especially with all the talk of the rapture and doomsday.
Imagination can be a good thing or it can be a bad thing. How do imagine the future of the world.

Expectations
The word expectations.
When I think of expectations I think of anticipation. Running a scenario through my head, I envision all the different things that might happen and then I try and figure out the most likely result based upon what I know at the time.
I don't like to waste time worrying about things I have no control over. Back in my AA days, there was a saying that people used quite frequently that made sense. They said you can plan but don't project the outcome. Projecting outcomes just leads to frustration and anger.
These days I use my life changing formula E + R = O which means an event plus my reaction to the event equals the actual outcome. If I can try and be positive about everything that hits my life, understanding that it is all a learning experience that makes me grow and become a better, stronger person; then no matter what the experience, it has been a good one.
This week is going to be super busy for me and I am expecting to get a lot done. Hope your expectations come to fruition as well!

Justified and the letter J: #ZtoAChallent
Today's blog post is on the word justified.
So here it is on Friday, and I think I have missed several letters this week on the ZtoA challenge. I really like this blog post roll because it keeps me active on my blog. The other reason I like it is because I get to meet new people and see their blogs.
The downside is that if I spend too much time at it, I don't make any money. Two weeks ago I set an objective to earn 'x' amount of income per week. As the minutes turned into hours, I started re-directing myself towards writing articles for revenue, rather than blogging for free.
The good news is that I have sold three books this week through my blog. It really is pathetic I suppose for me to count each one, but each sale I make is special to me, particularly when people come out of the wood work and I don't know them. They come to my website because I write articles, because I blog, and because they have been referred by someone else. That feeling I get when I meet someone new is exhilarating. I wish the feeling alone could be enough justification for me to write but I also hope to earn a living.
That leads me to justifying my time, minute by minute, hour by hour. I would like to spend more time playing but at this point in my freelance writing career, I need to balance my time with making revenue and making friends.

Emotions and emotional baggage

Family love
Today's blog post is on the word Love.
My mom used to say that love is a decision. You have to decide that you are going to love someone. Lust is something that happens physically and emotionally, but it is like a faucet, switching on and off on a whim.
Love is more like a river. It changes over time, and it bends. It sustains high winds, and rain, and even freezing temperatures. It sustains life and provides pleasure too.
I use the word love frequently. I love my garden. I love flowers. I love the sun. Frankly, there is no decision there. I just intuitively get a great feeling inside when I am around these things.
That is how I feel about my family too, for the most part. I enjoy the time I spend with them. Of course, there are times when my family members do things that I do not like. But I don't stop loving them just because they do something that I find unacceptable. They are my family. I love them no matter what.
Friendship is not so easy. Sometimes we choose to love friends that are not good for us. Other times people love us more than we think they should. Sometimes something gets said or done that has the potential to ruin a friendship. That is when love becomes a decision again.
Here are some of my favorite "love" lines.
Love makes the world go around.
It is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all.
If you love someone, set them free, if they come back, they belong to you forever.
Love is a journey, not a destination.
What is your favorite love line?
