Georgia Is, Of Course, On My Mind

Birthplace of my beloved Coca Cola. When I was a kid people would joke, “Even God changes planes in Atlanta.” You are ever present in my experience, yet we don’t spend much time together. A few trips to Atlanta and otherwise just driving through. Tell me what’s good, Georgia. Next time I’m through where should I stop and stay awhile?

FLORIDA!!!

Oh, Florida, I’ve always had a crush on you. My first trip was to Orlando and The Magic Kingdom the year after it opened. Then I moved near you and we spent a lot of time together. Summer vacations at Ft. Walton Beach and Pensacola. A few Christmases at Disney. I’ve driven all over you and even took a train across you once. We share a love of Jimmy Buffet and bright colors. I miss you, Florida. Hope we can be together again soon.

Shout out to all my Florida buddies!

Delaware, Let’s Do This

Ok, Delaware, I have something to confess. When I was young (but only so young, because I was driving) I saw a car in front of me, squinted in that way we sometimes do when we think, and asked the car at large, “Is Delaware even a state?” Worse even than my own ignorance, the two young people in the car with me didn’t know either.

Now, I don’t know whether to blame my blonde hair or my Mississippi education, but I apologize. Heck yeah, you’re a state. The First State! And an awesome one! Exce...

Hey Connecticut

Do you remember me? I think we met in the late 90s or early 00s. I visited Hartford and Mystic. I loved your aquarium.

In 2007 I went to one of your weddings. It was delightful.

The most recent visit in 2015 means you are where I saw Force Awakens.

Lets get together again soon. We don’t see each other enough.

Long Time No See, Colorado!

Another state I’ve visited! I remember your prairie dogs around Denver. Driving out from the airport I commented, “How cute!” My friend who had been there nearly a year rolled her eyes, “Not if you live here.”

We had a great time on that trip. My friend Sue (yep, another Sue) kept me hydrated for the altitude and we went to All The Places. Boulder, Golden (hello Coors plant), and Red Rocks. I made her take me to Sheplers, too. Man, I loved those Sheplers catalogs as a kid.

My family has a his...

Dear California,

Right now isn’t the time for a cute post about California. We’ve all watched your fires with alarm and concern. We are worried about you and want to help.

Sorry I haven’t visited much, California. It was always my dream to go to school there at UCLA. The only two cities I’ve seen are Los Angeles and San Francisco. I know you have so much more to offer. The San Diego Zoo is on my bucket list.

To my California friends, if you need an ebook to get your mind off present events, hit me up.

Try to...

Arkansas and a Plaid Earthworm!

I’m very excited to interview Beth Bartlett (@plaidearthworm) for today’s stop! It’s been a long time since I was in Arkansas, and you could say I was barely in it. We lived in Texarkana for 6 weeks. All I really remember is that there was a cool mine where you could pan for diamonds nearby and we did a day trip.

First question should be an easy one: What do you love about living in Arkansas?

My corner of the state is absolutely gorgeous in any season. Arkansas is a nature-lover’s delight, an...

There is No Arizona

Sorry, that’s one of my favorite country songs. I know there is an Arizona because I’ve been there! It is one of my husband’s favorite places on Earth.

What I remember is the zoo, the shopping, and it being so dry that this swamp baby almost blew away.

The last time we were there we stayed at The Wigwam in Phoenix, which was amazing. That’s when my husband decided I needed to write a series of books placed at resorts so that we can travel through all of them.

Hello Alaska

I’ve not visited you, Alaska, but I admire you for your rugged beauty. And I’ve been on your planes. When I saw the movie The Proposal I seriously considered immediately moving to Sitka (that was my DREAM house), but my husband advised me there would be a lot of winter. So much winter.

Your food is strange but intriguing to me. Smoked salmon is a big thumbs up. But ice cream made of out lard and berries? I’m intrigued but skeptical.

Sweet Home Alabama!

THE FIRST STOP IN SUE LONDON’S 50 STATE VIRTUAL BOOK TOUR IS ALABAMA

Hey there Alabama! It’s been awhile, but it’s nice to start the tour in a state where I used to live. Yep, in the early 80s I lived in Mobile. The Golden Buckle of the Bible Belt, as a local called it. Home to the oldest Mardi Gras in America (still haven’t attended, need to do that). I lived within walking distance of USA (Go Jaguars!) and attended St. Paul’s Episcopal.

Keep an eye out for my FOOD CHALLENGE. Even though so...
