Religious group wants Pastor Joel Osteen to testify during trial | News - Home

Members of an East Texas religious group want Lakewood Church Pastor Joel Osteen to testify in their criminal case.

Six members of the Church of Wells were escorted from Lakewood church in June after police reported they disrupted services. The men were charged with trespassing and disrupting a public meeting.

"At the end of the day what these guys did was go to a church and quote scripture," said defense attorney Jon Stephenson. "We don't believe that's a criminal act."

This is a very interesting case. Most interesting is the idea that Joel Osteen may personally have to appear as a witness in this trial. I think that the church had the right to escort these people off the property, but for there to be criminal charges seems a bit much. Joel, can't you just forgive these people, never let them back in, and move on?

How To Drop Cable TV And Get Started With FREE And Low Cost Internet TV

Until recently, most people considered my vocation as a writer the most interesting aspect of my life. The moment that someone learned that I was an author, they had a hundred questions to pepper me with (how they could write a book or their own, etc...). My status as an author has been recently eclipsed, however, by the jaw-dropping news that I dropped cable TV two years ago. Well, not just that I terminated the service, but that I have completely replaced it with free and low cost Internet TV. Yep, pretty close to the same reaction I might get if I just landed in a space ship, opened the door, and announced that I was from Mars.

U.S. Governors Say ���No��� to Syrian Refugees

In the wake of the Paris attacks, U.S. governors are going on the record to declare that their states will not accept any Syrian refugees as a part of the ongoing migration crisis. Presently, governors of at least 24 states have said that no refugees will be accepted, and it is likely the list will grow in the coming days.

Since authorities have indicated that at least one of the suspects involved in the Paris attacks came to Europe as a part of the current surge of Syrian refugees to the continent, the matter of the Syrian migration has immediately turned from a discussion of humanitarianism���to one of national security���in the national dialogues of many nations around the world.

The issue has gained immediate, acute attention in the United States because of the Obama administration���s announcement in September that 10,000 Syrians will be allowed into the country in 2016. Since 2011, only 1,500 Syrian refugees have been permitted entry, up to this point.

Legally, states have no authority to dictate who can and cannot be allowed into the country, so, in one sense, the refusals may not carry much weight. However, as a practical matter, if states decide that they will not participate in the relocations of migrants within the U.S. to their states, the whole process of bringing refugees in the country may become very difficult for all concerned. It is likely, given the administration���s posture on all of this, as well as the obvious threats posed by radical Islam, that a showdown of epic proportions could be brewing between the White House and the governors of dozens of America���s commonwealths.

Neil Cavuto Confronts Student Activist Pushing Insane Demands for Free College

I don���t know if any of you had the chance to see this exchange the other day between Keely Mullen, the National Coordinator of the Million Student March, and Neil Cavuto of the FOX Business Network. There���s a lot that could be said about this, and if you haven���t seen the entire exchange, you owe it to yourself to do so.

In brief, Mullen gets on with Cavuto to explain how the outlandish demands of the movement���forgiveness of the over $1 trillion in existing student debt, free public higher education for all, and a $15 minimum wage for all students employed on campus���can, and should, be covered by the rest of us, and particularly by that evil ���one percent.��� On that point, Mullen seemed fine with taxing the country���s wealthiest folks at 90 percent, and didn���t seem that put off by the idea that all of their money should be taken to finance the socialist ideas she and the rest of her ilk are proposing.

Watch the interview for yourself. As for me, it speaks, largely, to what those of us who care about the future of this country are up against. It is also a reminder of the other edge of the sword wielded by ���everyman media��� in the world now. Yes, it is very egalitarian, in one sense, that everyone has a voice now, so to speak. However, one of the distinct problems with it is that it enables some of the silliest, most bizarre ideas you���ve ever heard actually gain a perception of legitimacy within the broad, running narrative; once that happens, the rest of us have to defend ourselves and our country against dangerous stupidity. Most notably, we have to do so at the ballot box, where pandering, disingenuous politicians use these ideas to appeal to what are, truly, the lowest of ���low information��� voters, those who aggressively support destructive notions in the interest of getting free stuff for themselves.
