Ruth Madoff Now Living a Quiet Life in Connecticut
All things considered, Ruth Madoff seems to be doing, well, OK.
The wife of perhaps the most famous financial fraudster in history, Madoff is now living quietly in a 1-bedroom apartment in Connecticut. Her life is a far cry from the Manhattan-based luxury existence she once knew well there are no more mansions, no more limousines, and the bank account that once served as a repository for a personal fortune in the hundreds of millions contains just the $2.5 million the government allowed her to keep. Still, she is in much better financial shape than so many others.
To many on the outside, looking in, the jury of public opinion is very much out on whether Madoff is a victim or victimizer. While the results of an FBI investigation concluded that Ruth was unaware of the massive criminal enterprise overseen by her husband for decades, her role as a sometimes-bookkeeper for Madoff Securities, as well as the simple fact that she was thoroughly embedded in the life and lifestyle generated by the ill-gotten gains, makes it seem implausible to othersincluding bankruptcy trusteesthat she genuinely had no idea what was going on.
As great as the financial toll wrought by the scandal, even Ruth herself would likely say that pales in comparison to the devastating personal toll suffered her husband of 56 years will spend the rest of his life in prison, and her two children are both dead; son Mark committed suicide in 2010, and her other son, Andrew, died of lymphoma in 2014.

How To Watch The Superbowl Without Cable TV
Dropping cable TV is easier than ever, but being a 'cord cutter' is not without its challenges from time to time. The Superbowl, and other big sporting events sometimes leave those of us without cable scrambling to find a workaround. This year, however, it is easier than ever to watch the big game - without cable TV. The game is being broadcast by CBS, and one easy option (if you live near a large city) is to simply connect an antenna to your TV and watch the game by way of a traditional broadcast signal (your local CBS affiliate). Although most people don't realize it, an inexpensive antenna is all you need to receive a dozen or more free digital channels in most metro areas.
If you are one of the millions that have dropped cable and replaced it with a set top box like a Roku device, you should have no trouble at all watching the entire Superbowl and halftime show by simply adding the CBS Sports channel (or the NFL channel) to your set top device (also including Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Chromecast, and even Xbox One). You will not need a subscription or a log in to access these channels to watch the game. For those not familiar with Roku or similar devices, it is a simple set top box that connects your TV to the Internet through your home WiFi network.
The NFL has decided that they want to make the game accessible to as many people as possible (which makes their advertising all that more valuable). The NFL is not alone, as there are more non-cable options for viewers than ever. Channels like HBO and Showtime (two names long associated with cable and satellite) now offer subscriptions to those with non-cable devices as well. The same trend appears to be taking hold with sports subscription packages too, giving sports enthusiasts access to their favorite teams -without a big cable TV bill (on top of a subscription fee). Sling TV (owned by DISH) is offering a suite of channels comparable to a mid sized cable package for $20 per month (for Roku and other non-cable devices). Sling has plenty to offer for sports viewers, including ESPN and ESPN 2 in its basic channel package. For the real sports enthusiast, you can add their Sports Extra package for just $5 more monthly and pick up nine more sports channels.

Officials Confirm Sexual Transmission of Zika Virus
Sexual transmission of the (normally) mosquito-borne Zika Virus, which has been considered the culprit in a spate of birth defects see in Brazilian newborns recently, was recently confirmed by health officials in Dallas, Texas. Although the possibility that Zika can be sexually transmitted has been known for some time, confirmation of such an occurrence in a municipality like Dallas is certainly a big cause for worry.
Although the virus was first discovered in Uganda in 1947, it has remained relatively low profile (as viruses go) until early last year, when a rash of microcephaly cases in babies born in Brazil in late 2015 and early 2016 has pointed to Zika as the likely cause. Those born with microcephaly are characterized by having abnormally small heads and pronounced brain damage, and while Brazil normally sees roughly 150 cases of microcephaly each year, Brazilian authorities are presently investigating about 4,000 reported cases of the disease. Although it is believed that Zika has played a significant role in the emergence of the microcephaly epidemic in Brazil, a firm connection has yet to be made.
The grave threat to the health of fetuses seems to be the greatest obvious risk posed by Zika at this time. Thankfully, the risks to the rest of the population appear to be mild. When Zika prompts symptoms in an adult, those are typically no worse than fever, muscle/joint pain, malaise, and/or headache. Treatment typically involves no more than getting rest, staying hydrated, and treating any pains/fever with typical over-the-counter remedies. Symptoms are said to last between a few, to several, days.
Unfortunately, with viruses like this, the possibility of mutation into more virulent strains is ever-present. That is a big reason why the prospect of widespread transmission through sexual contact is such a concern.

Cyber Attack in Israel - One More Reminder of Threat To Power Grid
Israels Public Utility Authority found itself on the receiving end of one of the largest cyber attacks it has ever experienced, according to Yuval Steinitz, Minister of Infrastructure, Energy and Water. The attack came during an especially-harsh cold spell for the nation, which saw record-breaking consumption of electricity resources.
The reminders keep coming about just how at-risk national and worldwide energy resources remain. Among the more talked-about threats includes those associated with high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attacks. These attacks, which can be caused by solar storms and lightning bolts, as well as by a nuclear explosion, have the capacity to generate particle surges from the ionosphere that could act to disable power grids and electrical equipment. The damage ultimately caused will, of course, vary on the size of the EMP, as well as its location, but the point is that the effects could be very devastatingparticularly if a rogue nation or non-state group purposely detonated such a weapon for the express purpose of causing the trouble outlined here - instantly, an affected region would be plunged into a world of darkness, and whats especially troubling is that it is estimated that it could take years for an area to recover from an EMP attack.
Alive After the Fall remains a terrific information resource on how to protect yourself against the effects of an EMP attack, as well as on a variety of related survival challenges. In a package of 15 total ebooks and e-reports, Alive After the Fall comes in at just under 600 pages of information, overall, and is complemented by a solid 60-day, money-back guarantee.
Threats to the power grid are growing every day, and whether it is ultimately an EMP attack that seeks to leave you in the dark, a widespread cyber attack, or the physical destruction of utility resources, you have an opportunity to prepare now. L.A. Police Shortage - Citizens Told To Provide Their Own Protection
Were seeing this with vastly-increasing frequency: representatives of law enforcement going public with their declarations that police are becoming less capable of genuinely protecting the citizens of the communities they serve, as well as their overt assessments that citizens are largely on their own when it comes to staying safe from the criminal element.
Jamie McBride, president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the labor union for LAPD officers, recently told CBS2s Randy Paige that, The citizens need to know they need to be able to protect themselves because if they call 911, we cant guarantee were going to get there in time to help you. According to McBride, on a recent workday morning, the West LA division had just three patrol cars assigned, which ultimately meant just two cars to protect over 200,000 people living in a 65-square mile radius wow!
This problem seems to be getting worse in a lot of areas of the country, and yet far too many politicians still demand that you rely entirely on government law enforcement resources for your protection, and continue to acquiesce to efforts that further erode your rights to keep and bear arms.
So it is really on you to stay safe, as well as to keep your family safe. However, if you are going to do that, you need to be readyand being ready is going to be as much, or more, about your mental readiness as your physical readiness. To that end, I recommend the terrific book Counter Violence, a highly-informative, 138-page physical book that deals largely with the subject of mindset as it pertains to violent encounters. From that perspective it is a thorough work, and one that belongs on the shelf of anyone who seeks to become completely prepared to defend him/herself, as well as those innocent parties nearby, from the kind of violent attacks that have become an all-too-regular presence in our communities, across the country, and around the world nowadays.
The author of Counter Violence is E.J. Owens, the founder and president of Legally Concealed. Owens specialty as an instructor is in the area of concealed carry and home defense scenarios. His background is impressive, and includes service as a U.S. Army infantry officer, as well as CQB (close quarters battle) instructor and hand-to-hand combat instructor with the military.
In addition to receiving a great book on self-defense preparedness, your purchase of Counter Violence will give you access to four bonus videos/PDFs:
Anti-Carjacking Scenarios (video)
Home-Defense Shotgun (video)
The Ultimate GO Bag (PDF)
The Definitive Guide to Concealed Carry (PDF)
Stunningly, all of this great material is available for just the cost of shipping and handling - $5.97 (plus any state tax you might have to pay). Whats more, even at that unbelievable price, you also enjoy a 60-day, money-back guarantee on your purchase (which I highly doubt youll feel the need to use). If you would like to learn more, or just pick up your copy of Counter Violence right away, Click Here.

Trump Will Not Get Nomination
Dr. Gerard Lameiro joins Jim Paris Live to discuss his new book, Great News For America. Lemeiro predicts that Trump will not win the nomination and shares his thoughts on the current state of American politics. He predicts that Ted Cruz will win the Republican nomination and win the general election in a landslide. He also believes that Americans will turn out in record numbers to support a conservative agenda and wrestle back the direction of the country from progressives. Lameiro also argues that this is the most important election in more than one hundred years, and is convinced that in November voters will support a return to our nation's founding principles.
