One States Horrible Gun Laws for Travelers Strike Again Will You Be the Next Statistic?

New Jerseys gun laws are getting pretty good at making criminals out of law-abiding citizens. You may remember the case of Shaneen Allen, a Philadelphia mother of two who faced jail time in New Jersey for merely possessing the firearm she was authorized by Pennsylvania to have. Allen had previously been robbed twice while leaving work, and so purchased a gun, and also obtained a license to carry. When she told a NJ state trooper during a traffic stop that she had both the gun and PA-issued concealed carry permit on her person, she was arrested for violating New Jerseys firearms laws. The prosecutor of Atlantic County sought to make an example of her, and she was facing several years in jail. It was only after a public outcry ensued in her defense that the prosecutor backed off and Allen was able to avoid imprisonment.

Now comes the case of Pennsylvania corrections officer Raymond Hughes. Hughes and his wife were recently returning home from a concert in New Jersey when they were involved in an automobile accident. When Mr. Hughes incidentally declared to police that he had a gun under the seat, he was charged for carrying a weapon without a New Jersey permit, despite being duly licensed in his home state of PA. Not only was Hughes been suspended from his job as a corrections officer, he was facing a possible 3 year prison term, as well. Ultimately, the state decided to drop the charges on the basis of a technicality, but that does not change the fact that New Jerseys laws, vis--vis this sort of thing, are just ludicrous.

2016-02-29_18-19-32That both Allen and Hughes managed to get by without going to prison, while surely a relief to each of them, should be of little consolation to the rest of us who would like to have complete peace of mind as we travel about the country under what we would like to think are the inherent protections provided by the Second Amendment. The fact is, however, that much of the intent and spirit of the Second Amendment has been allowed to be suffocated by state legislatures happy to put chokeholds on gun owners; until some kind of national reciprocity law is passed at the federal level that allows concealed weapons permit holders licensed by each state to remain out of trouble when they carry a weapon throughout the country, then the kind of trouble that befell Ms. Allen and Mr. Hughes will be lurking for us all.

My suggestion for avoiding these kinds of jams is for all gun owners to keep handy a convenient reference guide that informs them as to the relevant laws of all fifty states. To that end, I highly recommend the Travelers Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States. This is a terrific, 8 x 11 physical book written by J. Scott Kappas, a Kentucky-based attorney who also operates a firearms business. The Travelers Guide provides a wealth of information on this subject, information that answers all of the questions you will have as a gun-carrying traveler to other states, including:

Which states allow me to carry a loaded firearm in the passenger compartment of my vehicle?

Which states allow me to carry a concealed firearm with or without a license to carry?

Which states honor my permit to carry a concealed firearm?

Which states laws allow open carry of a firearm while on foot?

Which states prohibit the mere possession of a handgun while in a vehicle?

Which states allow me to carry a firearm in their state parks?

How can I transport firearms on commercial airline, cruise ships & trains?

How can I transport firearms through a state that prohibits any gun possession?

The Travelers Guide to the Firearm laws of the Fifty States provides the answers to these questions, and so much more. The bottom line is that if you are a gun owner, this book is a must-have if you ever expect to travel outside of your home state; I highly recommend it. To order your copy, Click Here.

Chuck Norris Son Delivers Powerful Depiction of America in Wake of EMP Attack

And so it continues; not only has the real-world narrative of the threat posed by an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, attack, begun to occupy considerable space in the realms of news and politics, but now comes a theatrical depiction, courtesy of Mike Norris, the son of martial arts and action-movie legend Chuck Norris, of an America in the wake of such an attack. Here is a peek at AmeriGEDDON:

EMP attacks can be caused by solar storms and lightning bolts, as well as by a nuclear explosion. The detonation of such a weapon by a rogue nation or non-state group could plunge an affected region into a world of darkness, and it is estimated that it could take years for an area to recover from an EMP attack.

We have mentioned a couple of excellent resources in this space on the subject of how to prepare to survive an EMP attack. One of those is Darkest Days, a 177-page, spiral-bound, fully-illustrated manual (8 1/2 x 11 page size), that goes through the A to Z of how to survive an electromagnetic pulse attack. This is a terrific piece of material, and one that will serve you well either as a stand-alone EMP survival resource, or as a complement to other EMP survival information you may already possess. Additionally, not only is Darkest Days available for a great price, but the purchase comes with a 60-day, money-back guarantee, so that if you are not satisfied for any reason, you can get a no-hassle refund. Journalist Frighteningly Hacked While Writing His Story on the Apple-FBI Faceoff

The importance of online privacy continues to become clearer to more and more folksincluding those who have been, to some extent, non-believers in its real importance. Case in point:

While traveling via American Airlines from Dallas, Texas to Raleigh, North Carolina, journalist Steven Petrow was working on his article about the current dispute between Apple and the FBI; as you surely know by now, the FBI is demanding that Apple create a backdoor that would allow the feds to go into the San Bernardino terrorists phones in order to extract more evidentiary information, while Apple has so far refused, citing the broad privacy implications of such an effort.

2016-02-28_4-55-11

Petrow logged on to the public Wi-Fi network available on the flight as a function of working on his story, and went about his business. However, when the plane landed and passengers began to disembark, he received quite a shock: The passenger who had been sitting behind him piped up to reveal that he knew that Petrow was a journalist and that he had been working on the Apple-FBI story. As if that was not enough, the stranger even quoted an email that Petrow had received from a contact about the story. The passenger quickly revealed that he was able to ascertain all of this information because he had hacked the computing devices of basically everyone who had been traveling on that flight.

According to Petrow, the experience provided him with quite a wake-up call. By his own admission, he has historically been one of those people who has nothing to hide, in the way that, say, a serial marital cheater does. However, as he realized, even if you are not doing something genuinely bad, we all have things we obviously prefer to remain privatebut which are pieces of information that are just as vulnerable to hacking as all other kinds. According to Petrow, the experience made him a strong believer in the importance of Internet privacy, as well as in the stance being taken by Apple in its battle with the FBI.

Assuming that you see Internet privacy as being as important as journalist Steven Petrow now does, a resource you may find helpful is an ebook called The Patriot Privacy Kit, which we have recommended previously. It provides a wealth of useful information on how to stay safe online, including how to secure your computer hardware and software platforms, how to be a good steward of your all-important passwords, how to use email more securelyeven how to surf the web anonymously. This ebook also looks at what you need to know to be safe as a regular user of social media, including the ubiquitous Facebook, and also includes great information on how to secure your sensitive information offline (even in this Internet age, most ID theft still takes place that way, from the compromise of documents in a physical form). Something else - The Patriot Privacy Kit comes with a fantastic money-back guarantee, which means you can read and use the information through and throughand if youre still not satisfied, you can get all of your money back, with no fuss. How To Inspect A Used Car With Confidence

So we know that lack of money can be an impediment to pulling the trigger on a car purchasebut can having too much available consumer information actually be the cause of delay, as well? According to a survey recently conducted by AutoTrader, those who are overwhelmed with choice can find that to be an obstacle to finally settling on a purchase. According to the survey, which polled 5,000 consumers, 26 percent said they had planned to buy in the last six months, but did notand of those, the clear majority did not cite lack of funds, but, rather, the time devoted to the research process as the reason for not buying.

2016-02-27_5-20-43As I have said so many times before, the Internet, which has brought so much information and transparency to our fingertips (literally), can be both a blessing and a hassle, at times. Still, I would have to say that, in this case, too much information is a good problem to have. Car buying is still far too expensive a proposition to not put in the legwork to be sure you will come out fine on the other end of your transaction. To that end, I want to recommend a solid, easy-to-digest resource that can be a great help to you as you set out to purchase a quality used cara great ebook called Inspect Before You Buy, written by ASE Certified mechanic Jerry Ellingson.

Beginning with the exterior of the vehicle, Ellingson tells you what to look for, specifically, when evaluating the body and paint, glass and trim, wheels and tires, body panel alignment, and the trunk area. From there, he takes the reader under the hood, through the underbody, and throughout the interior. Finally, Ellingson informs you of what to watch for when taking your prospect for a test drive, from what to listen for when you first start the vehicle, to how to evaluate the handling and drivability, and much, much more. Ellingson also includes a comprehensive checklist as a part of the book (something you will want to print out and take with you, even if you leave the rest of the book home), as well as a list of automotive websites that you may find helpful when looking for a used car, including links to the terrific Edmunds and NADA guides.

Note that Inspect Before You Buy is not a book on auto repair, nor an in-depth manual on cars; it is not intended to be either of those. It is a solid, car-shopping guidepost that can be very useful in helping you to determine if youre about to make a smart investmentor if youre about to buy a four-wheeled money pit. The price is great, too$6.95and even at that, it comes with a money-back guarantee. This could well be the most important money you spend on behalf of your next car purchaseand that includes the dough you drop on the car itself. For more details and to purchase a copy of Inspect Before You Buy, Click Here.

When It Comes to Threats on the Street, Staying Ready Cannot Be a Function of Age

We have been hearing more and more lately from law enforcement officials who are boldly saying that the ability of police agencies to react in the moment and keep citizens safe from threats unfolding in real time is greatly diminished. One of the additionally-ominous inferences we are forced to take from these declarations is that those who are devoted to committing these violent acts against the rest of us are not going to care how vulnerable some among us are. As a matter of fact, criminals and terrorists typically prefer to go after those who they believe are least able to defend themselves. This certainly includes those members of the population that are getting on in years.

Many of us, however, arent having it. Those of you who know meand know about meare aware that I have made fitness and self-defense training a part of my life for decades. Now in my early-fifties, I still train aggressively just about every day, and expect to do so until I die. A big part of my training involves the use of the heavy bag. I love training the heavy bag, because it is one of the few pieces of apparatus available that allow one to simultaneously train for both fitness and self-defense, and do so without requiring a training partner to be available.

Take a look at this short video that shows a 60-plus-year-old man training the heavy bag:

It is not a professionally-crafted video, nor is the guy demonstrating the very best technique (although it is certainly not bad). That, however, is not important. By getting in there on a regular basis and striking as hard as he can, not only is he helping to keep himself in great shape, but he is also helping to stay prepared should trouble suddenly befall him on the street.

On that note, I want to mention a great training information product called The Heavy Bag Blueprint. The Heavy Bag Blueprint represents basically the A to Z of heavy bag training; it is structured into four training modules that present the person looking for both serious fitness training and a heightened ability to execute powerful strikeswith a comprehensive set of instructional guideposts. The content is substantial, with each module packed with all of the training you would expect to find in a quality, video-based fitness/self-defense program.

The Heavy Bag Blueprint comes with several bonuses, as well, that deal with subjects like diet, cutting weight, warrior mindset, applying specialized techniques to enhancing striking speed and power, and more. One other thing The Heavy Bag Blueprint carries with it a 60-day, money-back guarantee, so if you decide anytime within the first two months of purchase that youre not satisfied with the product, you can get your money back.

If you and/or someone you love is looking to toughen up in order to be better prepared to face the threats posed by what is now a most uncertain world, then I would certainly suggest giving The Heavy Bag Blueprint a good look.

Before beginning any exercise routine, you should seek the advice of a physician.

Social Security Filing Strategies In Spotlight

When it comes to filing for Social Security, theres much more to consider than most people tend to realize. Did you know that you can see as much as 32 percent more in a monthly benefit if you are able to delay collecting from age 66 to age 70? Are you familiar with the strategy of file and suspend? File and suspend can be a great strategy for an older married couple that would like to both put off receiving some of their benefits in return for an eventual higher payout, but also begin receiving some money now. With file and suspend, a working husband can file but suspend receiving his payments. However, now that he has filed, his homemaker wife can file for, and begin receiving, her spousal benefits, while the husbands deferred benefit continues to grow. Sounds great, but theres now a problem on the near horizon, courtesy of your government: Last October, Congress voted to discontinue file and suspend, effective May 1, 2016. This means that if you see file and suspend as a potential option for you, you will need to act fast.

2016-02-25_5-50-09

There can be a lot to filing for Social Security in the way that is most beneficial to you, and further complicating all of this (of course) are the constant efforts by politicians at changing laws to the benefit of Uncle Sams tax trough. Jim Blair, a former Social Security Administrator and consultant in Social Security Benefits, gives a very comprehensive treatment to the subject of filing options and strategies in his great ebook The Social Security Retirement Guide. This digital manual is about how to make sure youre applying for benefits in the best way possible for you (as in, MAXIMIZING your benefits as much as possible), and its loaded with all kinds of great information for those seeking to safely and effectively navigate the oft-times treacherous Social Security application waters. Its important to note that the way the system is set up, you must make the right decisions the first time when completing the application, because it can be practically impossible to make changes once youve formally filed. There is a provision to re-file your application within 12 months of your first benefit payout, but that is the only time you may apply again for benefits in your lifetime, and, even then, the appeals process can be very dauntingso you want to do everything you can to get it right the first time.

Anyway, as if the ebook is not enough, purchasers enjoy email support for any questions they may have; considering the price of this book, just $24.95, that is a terrific, added benefit. As a matter of fact, the email contact is also a live link at the end of the book, so you can reach out to Blair immediately. Whats more, the product comes with a 60-day, money-back guarantee. It is these kinds of perks that take a very good product into the realm of great. If applying for Social Security benefits is anywhere on your horizon, your parents horizon, or that of anyone else whos important to you, I recommend picking up a copy of The Social Security Retirement Guide as soon as possible.

The Curious Attitude Many Americans Have Toward Digital Privacy

We talk a lot about digital privacy in this space, and we often assume that real Internet safety and security is a genuine priority for just about all thinking people. That, however, may not be the case. A global private network provider, HMA, in conjunction with Morar Consulting, recently conducted a study that found, in their words, that while two thirds of respondents say they would like extra layers of online privacy and security, their actions prove otherwise.

PrivacyThe study revealed that although 63 percent of respondents declared they had experienced issues with online security, and 67 percent said that they wanted more Internet privacy options available, that very few of those folks reported using any of the already-available tools to actually better safeguard themselves from online intrusions. For example, just 16 percent of respondents said they use browser plug-ins that increase privacy protection, while a whopping 4 percent use software that can allow a person to surf the web anonymously.

The culprit, it seems, is hassle, or, at least, perceived hassle. People just dont seem to want be bothered to protect themselves, even as they say they want to be protected, and even as a multitude of mechanisms have come available for them to better enhance their online privacy.

Soare you serious about staying safe online, or are you one of the apparent many who pay only lip service to the desire to remain protected while going about their business on the Internet? If it is the former, a resource you may find helpful is an ebook called The Patriot Privacy Kit, which we have recommended previously. It provides a wealth of useful information on how to stay safe online, including how to secure your computer hardware and software platforms, how to be a good steward of your all-important passwords, how to use email more securelyeven how to surf the web anonymously. EMP Risk Gains Traction In Mainstream Media

Although some have said that the threat of an EMP attack is a relic of the Cold War, a variety of learned experts continue to come forth to register their stark concerns that not only is such a threat not well in the past, but that North Korea, in particular, may well be the nation from which the U.S. has the most to fear in terms of the safety of its energy grid.

PowergridIn the recent debate of Republican presidential candidates in New Hampshire, Senator Ted Cruz brought the issue of a North Korea-based EMP threat (literally) center-stage. Now, in the wake of both his EMP reference on that night and the recent examples of significant weapons-testing by the communist state, more and more people in mainstream media outlets are discussing the issue, and highlighting the concerns mentioned in recent years by various strategists and policymakers about the issue. Recently, former presidential arms control official and current think tank director Hank Cooper suggested quite positively that an EMP threat originating from North Korea is very real, and that there is no good reason to believe that such a threat from there does not exist. Separately, Vincent DeVito, a former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Energy, told CNBC that, on a scale of 1 to 10, the threat of an EMP attack is a 7. He further clarified, quite ominously, that the interconnectivity of the grid with Canada and Mexico means that the threat is really one to all of North America, and not just the United States. Even federal regulators have recently weighed in overtly on a possible EMP attack, saying that as many as 40 percent of the U.S. population could be affected, and that it would take at least several years to recover from the event.
