Guest Post: Why We Need Wonder Woman

dcwomenkickingass:

While I on vacation this week I have a series of guest posts from readers, bloggers and other writers. This guest post is by Josie Campbell whose name you may recognize from her work writing news at Comic Book Resources. Josie is writing on the importance of Wonder Woman. It’s a terrific essay and I ask that you read the whole thing. Her thoughts follow,

Of all the superheroes in all the world there is only one, in my eyes, who has fundamentally changed our culture as a whole — and it ain’t Superman, Batman, Spider-Man or any of the other superlative-Men who get trotted out in that capacity.

That superhero is Wonder Woman.

Very nice read.

Black Canary and Huntress by Jamal Igle

This is beautiful, and at the same time it makes me sad.

Jamal is one of my favorite artists and a beautiful human being. He was going to draw Birds of Prey, with me writing, and he was so excited he made these beautiful, full drawings of each character—Canary, Huntress, Oracle, Lady Blackhawk, and Misfit. They were STUNNING.

Something happened and it fell though, which sucked, because we were having troubles keeping a regular artist on the book (health reasons and other problems).

At a con in St. Louis, Jamal GAVE me a portfolio with all the sketches. I can’t tell you how overwhelmed I was, but also how sad it still makes me. I think working with him on Bop would have been LEGEND.

Has Gail Simone outed Catman? I know she was planning on making him bi in SS before it got canceled. But who knows what he is now.

Gail Simone stated he is bisexual on her Tumblr, and I think the plan was to out him during Secret Six prior to being cancelled. Since DC is pushing for diversity in this reboot, I don’t see why they shouldn’t go through with it. I hope they do if they reintroduce him.

Catman was definitely bi before the new 52. I wish I had shown it in continuity, but instead I Dumbledored it.  My mistake. But it’s still canon before the new 52.

If I ever get to bring him back, he will absolutely, definitely still be bi.

Favorite pairing ever, just about. Sparks fly when these two are in proximity, and both are wildly unpredictable. Lovely art!

AnimeNext 2012! Misfit and Huntress!

It was windy and our capes billowed SO MUCH. I fired stuff off my crossbow for fun and Misfit hopped around smiling and posing heroically.

At the Superhero/Villain shoot, she ran into the middle, struck a pose, and said, “DON’T WORRY, THE REAL HERO HAS ARRIVED!”

DARK VENGEANCE!

I am sorry but I REFUSE TO ACCEPT ANYONE’S OPINION IF THEY DON’T ADMIT THIS IS AWESOME.

Damn it, I want to write these two! Fantastic cosplay!

Some photos from my day as Scandal Savage at Denver Comic Con! All the other cosplayers were awesome, but it was epic to get pictures with Gail Simone and Paul & Storm!

This just goes to prove what I always say.

COSPLAYERS ARE THE AWESOME.

APE IN A CAPE: Notes From Denver Comic Con

gailsimone:

Wow, just wow.

First, I almost canceled attending this convention a while back, my schedule became busy, too busy, and I almost had to back out, something I hate doing.

Boy, am I glad I came. This is the first year of this convention, Denver has apparently never had a real comic convention of…

Oh, gosh! I WAS THAT SCANDAL, AND MY LOVELY ROOMIE WAS KNOCKOUT! I’m glad we helped make the con fun for you. DCC really was a fantastic con, and probably the best I’ve ever attended, just short of last year’s SDCC. For a first year con, it was incredibly well-organized, with great panels (the Young Justice one this morning was fabulous!), friendly attendees, and enthusiastic guests.

So thank you, Gail, and everyone else who helped make this con so special for me and every other girl who’s just wanted to build lamentation blades and be a BAMF for a day. =P

You guys were SO FIERCE!

It made me really happy to see Scandal and Knockout at the con!
