Hi Gail! My 13 year old brother struggles with a severe form of dyslexia. He is super into super heroes and geek culture in general. He wants to get into more comic books, but my family has a hard time trying to find him comic books that aren't text heavy
Thank you so much. And thank you for sharing the story of your little brother, he sounds kind of awesome, frankly.
I think for young people, Ultimate Spider-man right now is a fantastic choice. Aquaman isn’t too text-heavy and it’s a magnificent looking book.
Any other recommendations, guys?
Concerning a few lines and character beats relating to the Birds of Prey from the book "Justice League: Cry for Justice", such as Black Canary dissolving the JLA because her husband left, I was wondering if you and James Robinson had any animosity towards
Not at all, no. Listen, I’m not a fan of that series, but I AM a fan of James Robinson in general, I think he’s an amazing talent. Starman remains one of the ten best series DC has ever published, SHADE was fantastic, EARTH TWO is a blast. He’s brilliant.
More than that, he’s a supportive, kind, lovely colleague who does care deeply about diverse voices and characters.
One series I didn’t like wouldn’t change that. I’ll be frank, I only read the first issue, it wasn’t to my taste, so I can’t even say if I disliked the entire thing.
But James is a gracious, generous guy. Just as an example, he went out of his way on his recent serious with Vandal Savage to make absolutely certain that nothing in it invalidated Scandal Savage existing. He spoke to me privately and publicly to make sure I knew he respected that character and her story and my creation.
He didn’t have to do ANY of that, and most writers would not have troubled themselves. But it is typical James in every way. And because of that, the possibility of Scandal existing in the new52 is still there.
That’s James being thoughtful and generous.

Is Karen Berger leaving DC is basically Vertigo's last breath?
I am told it isn’t.
It’s hard to say, but I certainly hope not.
Do you watch the Good Wife?
I don’t know what that is. I watch very little television, it’s almost all on Netflix if at all. I have zero knowledge of what is popular at the moment.
I kinda like it that way. ;)
Gail! Please tell me you were too deeply saddened at the news that the legendary Karen Berger is stepping down :(
I absolutely am, for a great number of reasons. Karen’s reputation as a tastemaker and talent finder is legendary for a good reason. She made a comics imprint for a market that no one even knew existed, where many publishers can’t market the product people are ASKING FOR to the people who are asking FOR it.
She’s kind of a miracle.
I’m also sad that it means a very powerful woman is stepping down when comics really need more powerful women.
It’s sad, but hopefully what she did will inspire others, hopefully she’ll be happy in whatever new career she chooses and hopefully Vertigo will go on to continue to create wonderful books.

APE IN A CAPE: You Know What Is Exhausting?
…being at a convention, a busy convention, and having dozens, sometimes hundreds of women in my signing line, not there because they are being dragged there but because they love comics—taking pictures with them, admiring their amazing cosplay, listening to their ideas and hopes and favorite…
I love this woman so much. That’s all I can say.
I love you back!
And yep, this is still going on even now. “Why don’t women read comics?”
BECAUSE WE ARE TOO BUSY READING MORE COMICS.

Do you watch Glee?
I do not…I know this makes people sad, but I find the music unbearable on that show.
It’s not the show, it’s me, I am sure.
Sorry, but this guy wins at everything.
