Gail Simone has a history of posting hate herself, against Felicity, Olicity and has even likened Olicity fans themselves to Nazis. She wrote BC in comics back in the day, and is propped up by the comic purist as a feminist icon, yet the hate she directed

Well, I never called her a role model, Nonnie. I said I share her wish not to be tagged or involved in MG hate.

GS has an agenda when it comes to Arrow and Felicity. That’s fine, so do I. Everyone who watches and writes for Arrow has an agenda. That’s how it works when you read or watch something. I’m perfectly happy with my agenda and the fact that everyone else has their own versions of agendas. I’ll stay in my lane, and they can stay in theirs. I’m not interested in converting anyone to my agenda or way of thinking. If asked, I’ll tell people what I think, but I’m not going to seek people out and enforce my opinion on them.

Calling people Nazis is a lazy way of critiquing behaviour. There are definitely elements of this fandom and every other fandom and commentators on fandoms that has ever existed that are subpar in the way they treat others. Nothing can be done about that. People will be people. I’m just going to do me and try and be as kind and patient as I can, because I can’t control other people’s behaviours, only my own. :)

will you ever return to batgirl or any other dc comic books?

I will probably not return to Barbara Gordon, barring a special anniversary issue or something of that nature. I can’t imagine a scenario off-hand where I would write her in an ongoing at this point.

I took a break from mainstream DC stuff for a bit, it’s been great fun and very rewarding, doing things like running my first big crossover event with Swords of Sorrow, working on video games, and writing creator-owned books.

But my first big loves in comics are those DC/MU stories. And I kind of have been missing writing superhero stories. We’ll see, I got offered some dream assignments with astounding artists I adore in the last few weeks, and I’ve been sort of agonizing over which to do (can’t do them all, sadly). So to some degree, whether or not I go back and do a DC ongoing is dependent on which of these assignments I decide to do.

Essentially, it’s a bit of a crossroads right now, which is kind of fun to contemplate, but a bit stressful, too!

I imagine I will always want to do some DC/Marvel stuff. But it’s been very fun to explore properties like Red Sonja and Tomb Raider and other characters I love, too.

I am fortunate enough to have choices laid in front of me, it’s hard for me not to say yes, really.

Just read the last TR comic and Sam Nishimura has been fridged for the next game -- again! Do you think they afraid of what she might represent if they were to dare to explore her relationship with Lara?

I don’t know, I’m not in contact with them currently, but I don’t get it at all.

The fans of the series completely embraced Sam…even if she and Lara aren’t lovers (which to me, it seems obvious that they are), they are at least best friends, and she adds a missing element to the TR myth.

I love the new TR games, they’re my favorites, but I don’t understand why they built all this wonderful stuff in the first game only to push it all away in the follow-ups.

Are you one of these snowflakes who think Trump is too mean to be president?

Yes.

Also, go fuck yourself.

Can I just say, I've been trying to write the Black Canary fighting and I felt weird because I was having her use the Canary Cry so often it felt off for some reason, and I could never really figure out why but I didn't want to make her stop using it becau

To me, it’s a bit like Iron Fist. Iron Fist is one of my very favorite characters. But he’s got that same thing, a cannon that he can only use once each fight, his Iron Fist power.

Now, if he’s in real danger, why doesn’t he just use the fist? If he’s not in real danger, where is the suspense?  So it puts the writer into a corner. The readers want to see the Iron Fist, but if it happens every fight, it quickly becomes predictable.

Canary is a fighter first, a superhero second.

Hi there! I have a question, was it your idea to add Zinda to the BoP team? If so, what was your reasoning? I love her so much, I miss her a bunch :(

It was my idea. My father-in-law was a big fan of the Blackhawks, it was the only comic he ever really loved. And I loved the characters (even though obviously time has thankfully passed a lot of this stuff by). When I found out that the Watchtower was going to be blown up (an idea I was against, but found out about too late to stop), I wanted them to have a mobile base, which meant a pilot. And having Zinda just seemed too good an idea to skip. Readers embraced her immediately.

The Blackhawk comics came way before I was born, so I never read them originally. I fell in love with the idea of Lady Blackhawk from Beau Smith’s wonderful Guy Gardner: WARRIOR series, where she was a regular character. He’s always been a big inspiration to me, although we both write Zinda very differently. I think I was the one who gave her a slightly Oklahoma feel.

It’s interesting, people still cosplay her at cons I attend all over the world. She really resonates with people.

And finally, in a weird coincidence, one time, much later, I talked with BOP’s original writer, Chuck Dixon, and he asked if I put Lady Blackhawk in the book for him, and I had no idea what he meant. It turns out, he had LONG wanted her in the book when he was writing it, but was turned down for whatever reason. He had even written a script with her in it that didn’t get used.

So we both had wanted her to be in the book, completely separately. I have no idea why I was allowed to do it and he wasn’t, it’s weird. But it made me glad that the co-creator of the series approved of her appearance!
