If Vengeance Moth got into a fight with The Killer Moth, how quickly would Vengeance Moth kick his ass?

She would kick her uncle’s ass in about fifteen seconds.

The Movement #11: ‘My Brother From Above’ Review

The Movement #11: ‘My Brother From Above’ Review:

“No. These people aren’t my family. My family? My family is… a little bit of a miracle.” -Burden, The Movement #11 As Virtue and Rainmaker get their long-delayed first date, Burden’s brother Jacob comes to town to kidnap him and take him home to do “penance.” So, happily, The Movement continues to show us explicitly queer kids matter-of-factly doing things (Dating! Kissing! Eating ice cream! Fighting injustice! Things!), which, in itself, is pretty good representation. But the penultimate issue of The Movement also happens to be a sweet little Coming Out Story, wrapped up in a crunchy shell of monsters, torture, and childhood trauma. I would have liked more pages…

This is a very thoughtful and intelligent review. I agree with a couple of the criticisms, and am very glad that Burden’s story meant so much to you.

I don’t normally disagree with reviews because I think the reviewer’s opinions are their own and deserve to be heard without an authorial voice jumping in, so this is really ONLY just a question.  But Tremor brings up the very point you mention about the Movement using Burden for their own means a few issues back, and they do TRY to help him, in their own slightly hamfisted way.

So I am only curious, doesn’t that count as the in-between step you are talking about? I am asking only because I’m curious about the clarity of that moment (Virtue deciding to ‘exorcise’ Burden). Maybe it wasn’t clear enough?  That would be my fault.

It’s a very interesting point…it has me thinking. Issue twelve is done, we did have  a lot to pack in, but I really like it, hope you do, too.

Thank you for these very thoughtful reflections! Seriously, much appreciated.

Is Vengeance Moth by any chance a fan of Sailor Moon?

Probably, but I’ve never seen the show (I know, sacrilege!).

ALL THE HELENA-CHARLIE FEELS!

I actually have a Helena/Charlie short story script around somewhere that never got published. It was for a BOP annual that never happened.

The Movement #11, by gailsimone & Freddie Williams II, I LOVE this panel, it’s my favourite from the past 12 months, and the year so far! Go Burden (I feel bad calling Christopher that, think I’ll call him awesome ^_~)!

Burden decides not to be subtle.

The Movement #11

This might be an unpopular opinion but I hope Burden dies.

Personally, I don’t have anything against Burden. And I’m kind of partial to his imaginary love letters to his mother. But, and this may sound judgmental because it is, I can’t stand to look at him. I’ve always been a bit squeamish about seeing the insides of people because they’re supposed to stay on the inside. So when they’re suddenly on the outside, it’s like the universe is screaming its worst secret at me and I can’t avoid it even if I avert my gaze and plug my ears. Because now the universe’s worst secret is echoing throughout my head: everything dies. Everything dies. Everything dies.

And that’s what happens to me when I see Burden’s octopus parts coming out of his nether torso. That sounds like it’s coming out of his asshole. I should have just said belly.

His brother, on the other twisted extremity, is quite the handsome Amish dude. I could look at him all day and not once be forced to ponder my own mortality! Although reading a comic book where a character dies seems a bit nonsensical if I want him to die because he reminds me of death. Maybe…and this is just a wild theory, mind you…maybe I’m just fucking nuts! Probably not, though. I’m actually the only person that really exists. Everybody else are just projections of my own issues and insecurities. How can the only real person be crazy? Crazy implies abnormality! But if I’m the only extant creature in the universe, I am the measurement of normal and thus perfectly sane!

Boy, I sure am glad I projected comic books into my universe.

I may have forgotten. :|

Managed to knock this out after work, and almost finished by midnight.

I miss Pre-Nu52 Birds of Prey.

That is really, really cute!
