I went to GeekGorlCon in Seattle one year and there was a panel on women and queers in comics that was basically about you and you showed up to it and were sitting in front of me but I panicked and failed to tell you you were amazing. I regret that.

That is very kind of you, but I swear, I am always, ALWAYS happy to meet readers and say hello (if there’s a way to do it without interrupting someone on the podium).

Exception has to be during bathroom trips. :)

And hopefully the panel was about the topics and not about me. ;)

HEY!

Would everyone do me a huge favor and please wish a very, very happy birthday to one of the sweetest, funniest, mostest beautifulest people I know?

It’s the great http://ittygittydiddynator.tumblr.com/ who was and is the real-life inspiration for Vengeance Moth. I think she actually IS Vengeance Moth, in fact. I am afraid to tease her because she might use her moth powers on me.

She’s one of my favorite people on Earth. She’s creative and hilarious and mean and awesome and kind and I ADORE HER AND YOU WOULD TOO, IF YOU KNEW HER.

And I would love for her to have a wonderful birthday, because I love her to bits.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, B.A.!

I rarely post selfies but I’m feeling very proud of myself because I completed my revision for a whole Film Aesthetics topic today despite my ongoing apathy towards formal education (17 years of the stuff!).

Now it is time to reward myself with an early night spent with this red-headed barbarian, some film soundtracks and a rum and coke.

That sounds good even to non-drinking me!

Guest Post: Ms. Marvel, Comics, Diversity and Me

dcwomenkickingass:

The arrival of the new Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan resonated with many readers who were happy to have a character in comics that resembled themselves. One of those of a long time reader MayaK. I asked Maya who has been reading comics for four decades the impact that having a character like Kamala means to her and how much it would have meant when she was a young reader. Her thoughts follow.

When Sue approached me about this piece I envisioned a review of Ms. Marvel and how it resonated with me as a woman of South Asian descent.  My parents emigrated from India to the United States in the late 1950s and I was born a day before the Civil Rights Act was enacted. However, the more I tried to write the review the more the larger issue of diversity in general in the genre nagged at me.  Why does diversity matter? What does diversity mean?  Why are some in the community so resistant to the idea?  Why is diversity in comics, really media, such a divisive issue?

Lovely, heartfelt article.
