Cool!

I thought you guys might enjoy seeing this.

I was digging through my old emails for a script that a particular comics event in Northern Ireland is looking for, and found this, which I hadn’t seen in years. The first ever sketch designs of Misfit, by the great Nicola Scott!

I like them all, but I’m glad we went with the one that actually looks like it could be made from the stuff in a closet. clothes hamper. I like that design a lot!

It’s finally here!

The LEAVING MEGALOPOLIS graphic novel, formerly available only directly from myself or co-creator/artist Jim Calafiore, is finally out in a comic bookshop edition!

I am very excited about this—people have been asking me if I have copies at every con I got to, and I almost never do because we have sold out. And people who missed the Kickstarter and don’t live near a comics shop couldn’t get it either.

Today a new edition comes out from DARK HORSE COMICS at comic shops everywhere, with a stunning new cover from Jim Calafiore!

This is a really different book, it’s the story of what happens to a city full of superheroes, when something awful happens, and the heroes become killers…and a small band of survivors try desperately to find the way out.

We are very proud of this book, please don’t forget to pick up a copy when you get your comics this week!

I've been reading and playing Injustice lately, and it occurs to me in a lot of timelines Diana seems to be a key part in supporting/pushing Clark into his darker tendencies. How do you feel about this? It seems very off from the way "our" Diana normally a

As much as I love Injustice and some of the other DC video games, female characters really do get the shaft in some of them.

I’m not saying some of the guys don’t, also, but it’s always a little irritating if the character you love most is Wonder Woman, and her storyline is basically reduced to really kind of pathetic stuff. Luckily, her fighting is great in that game. I am sure someone whose favorite is Aquaman is probably lodging the same complaint, I guess. But it always feels weird to reduce Wonder Woman to someone’s girlfriend. That’s a lot of wasted dramatic potential.

I have not caught up on the comic, but I can’t imagine Tom Taylor writing her that way, is she different in that book? I know he writes a really strong Black Canary.

INJUSTICE is still a favorite game, I really love it, and they told a gripping story. They got so much right, I just felt they could have taken that one step further with the female characters.

Still a great game.

did you lose red sonja? if not what is the black tower?

Red Sonja is popular and Dynamite Comics has had several creators doing one-shots and mini-series while I do the main book.

Black Tower is a mini written by Frank Tieri. I haven’t read it yet, but the covers are gorgeous!

So I see several of your posts saying that you wanted to do more light hearted stuff with Batgirl, but DC didn't want you to. So, why then, have they recruited a new creative team and a new light hearted image for Babs? Why didn't they just let you do what

Those editors left a couple weeks after I did, it’s a new editorial team that is open to lighter stories and not so much of a house style. So, that was kind of bad timing on my part. :)

I want to make it clear that they were the editors and had every right to insist on the tone they wanted.

holy shit cows are huge

And apparently very cuddly

I can verify cows are both and they lick like giant slobbery cats.

I grew up on a farm, my first pet was a cow.

She was called Princess, and she was so excited to see me, she would follow me around, she waited by the fence for me to come home from school.

They can be incredibly affectionate and they’re smarter than people think.

BATGIRL SALES TRENDS | I got curious so I checked these as well.

Concluding remarks:

Gail Simone sells!
Batman Event tie-ins increased sales for Batgirl. (Court of the Owls, Batgirl #9; Death of the Family, Batgirl #14 - #16; Zero Year, Batgirl #25; Gothtopia, Batgirl #27).
September Events boosted sales for Batgirl for the Zero issue, but not for the villains issue (Ventriloquist #23.1).
Batgirl/Huntress/Black Canary team-up gave Batgirl a temporary sales boost. (Batgirl #32 - #34).

Yeah, this looks a little weird because the first year numbers were so high due to the relaunch, but the truth is, I’ve been writing Barbara Gordon in some fashion for like eight years and it’s always sold extremely well. We outsold the people that came before and the people that came after. The trades sell amazingly well and digital sales are excellent. It’s almost unheard of for one writer to write a character for that many years anymore at all, let alone have it maintain excellent sales despite artistic and editorial changes.

Batgirl has been a success story commercially, without question. We were usually the industry’s best-selling female lead book (until Harley showed up and started kicking our asses!)

It’s just that I think we could have done a little better with some happy stories once in a while!  :)

On Twitter today — and everyday — there was some chatter and scuffle about Some Authors’ Careers and Some Authors’ Fame and whether they had deserved it. Some folks invariably said the chatter and scuffle was jealousy. Some others invariably said…

When someone brings me something they’ve written for me to look at, and it even RESEMBLES someone else’s writing, I immediately lose interest and never get it back.
