Swords of Sorrow: Red Sonja / Jungle Girl #2 - Cover by Jay Anacleto

This cover.

Man, I know it’s got the Escher thing with Sonja, and I know the outfits are skimpy as hell.

But I can’t help it, I LOVE THIS COVER.

The artistry, and the imagination, and the execution, they are all absolutely stellar. And there’s a sense of power and determination to both women. And they are gorgeously rendered–they are sexy, sure, but they also look positively dangerous and fierce. And Jungle Girl’s boobs look like HUMAN BOOBS.

I know there’s stuff there that people object to, but I can’t help it, this cover blows my mind. For me, it’s one of the best covers of the entire event and I could just stare at that monster forever.

Wow.

“I don’t need prey. I don’t need soldiers. I need generals.”

If years ago someone had told me I was going to read a women of Dynamite crossover, I’d have laughed so hard. Many things are happening in the realm of comics…

Wait. Holy crap. You drew this?

It’s GORGEOUS!

What lady heroes have the best costumes in your opinion?

Ooh.

Good question.

I really love Batwoman’s design. It’s elegant and subtle but has great impact.

I love Spider-Gwen’s design very much, it’s by far my favorite recent superhero design.

I think Harley looks great in many of her designs.

I actually really liked the Wonder Woman design recently with the black pants, I thought that was a great look (it grew on me, what can I say).

I love Jeannette’s design but she’s not a hero.

Cleveland Police Filed Charges like “Aggravated...

krxs10:

Cleveland Police Filed Charges like “Aggravated Menacing” & “Inducing Panic” On Tamir Rice To Justify Shooting Him

If you’re a cop and you’ve just shot a 12-year old kid dead without giving him a chance to follow your orders, what do you do? You file a report making it look like he was a criminal, that’s what.

According to recently obtained documents from the Cleveland Police Department, 12-year old Tamir Rice was going to be charged with the outrageous crimes of “aggravated menacing” and “inducing panic.”

Dear police: We give those crimes back to you. All across the United States, you have induced panic and served as aggravating menaces and have gotten away with these crimes for far too long.

How dare you ever consider charging this young brother with these crimes. He was no menace, but a sixth-grade boy, and the only reason you or anyone else panicked was because of his brown skin. Here are eight white people who pointed real guns at real people and lived to tell the story.

Here is the bogus criminal report for Tamir.

Notice the following three points.

They list three victims of Tamir Rice:The State of Ohio Officer Loehmann (who shot and killed Tamir) Officer Garmback (who drove the vehicle) This is essential. They are not claiming Tamir was a menace or induced panic to other people in the park, but to the officers. ABSURD. At the end of the report, notice that they say this complaint was “abated by death.“ Notice the officer who shot and killed Tamir claims to have had minor injuries.

If given the chance, would you want to write Harley Quinn? I know you'd more than do her justice, this is for certain.

The interesting thing about this is, at different times, BOTH of her wonderful creators have told me they would love to see me write her. I have written her in very small doses in the past, but never a full story.

But if Bruce Timm and Paul Dini think I would be good at it, I pay attention. :)

Thanks, maybe someday!

Is it okay for an author to create two different stories that share the same motif? That is, if they explore the concept differently?

Absolutely, holy crap. Some writers have only one theme they explore their entire lives, that’s fine.

I have three themes I explore a lot, they appear over and over in my work.

1) The Search For Identity. Many of my characters have lost their identity, or had it taken/altered, or are otherwise bereft of a sense of self or history. They are trying to get it back. This resonates with me forever, I know it means a great deal to many people trying to answer they basic question of who they truly are.

2) The Search For Family. Very few of us had a Brady household. Many of us have different meanings for the words, “father,” “mother,” or “sibling,” for example. I write a great many stories about being able to forgive, or at least move on, from that, and a fair number about NOT feeling pressured to forgive when the offense is egregious. But in the end, many of those same stories end up being about characters finding family later in life, in unexpected places.

and

3) The Will To Survive. This is a big one to me. I get a lot of questions about, “Why do you write such dark scenarios” and “why do you put your characters through such hell” and the answer is simple, because real people go through Hell every day. Real people suffer from crime, injury, illness, neglect, poverty, addiction, abuse, prejudice and an untold number of other maladies. I like to tell stories of people surviving. I don’t care much about two superheroes fighting over a golden piece of crap, or a hero stopping a bank robbery. Those can be fun, but they don’t really move me.

My thing is, my characters have horrid things happen, but they survive. I feel like sometimes, just surviving is INCREDIBLY heroic. When I hear readers tell me of the things that they have had to deal with in their lives, I don’t feel motivated to write a story where Superman stops a jewel heist, I feel motivated to write a story where someone finds a way to open the windows again when all they want to do is leave them closed. I feel like seeing characters try to outlive their traumas, however they choose to do it, is very meaningful to me as a reader, and I hope as a writer.

It’s another case of being inspired by the readership, and it informs almost all my writing in some way. It’s also why I wrote Deadpool as a troubled guy who tells jokes, rather than as Bugs Bunny with a gun. I think you can laugh at zany Deadpool, but there’s so much more to the character than just that.

Anyway, those themes show up again and again in almost all my books. Write what moves you, it’s hard for others to truly care if the author doesn’t.
