Hey Gail! Quick question, when you go to the Little Rock comic expo will you be posting your schedule here on tumblr? I really, really, really, can't wait to meet you

I promise I will! but I think I have a table there, as well, so I should be pretty easy to find. :)  Looking forward to meeting you, any fan of Shayera’s is okay with me!

I always loved Batman’s response here.

And again, this is why I defend Ed Benes. The storytelling from Barbara’s reveal all the way to the end of the interaction with Batman is absolutely impeccable. He just brings such care to the acting. Amazing.

Hello Gail, I'm sure you've discussed this before somewhere, but I was curious about the meaning/significance of Scandal's tattoo? Thanks!

I actually have to ask Dale that, he added it when he designed her and I am not sure if he ever told me. I would have come up with something, but I didn’t want to interfere with what he came up with!

Do you know yet how Swords of Sorrow will be collected in trade?

I am not entirely sure, to be honest!

I think the main series will be one collection, and the tie-ins probably a couple books together. One huge omnibus would be amazing, but I didn’t want people to have to buy stories they didn’t want, so maybe broken up is better.

I don’t know yet!  :)

Conceptually, I'm interested in Swords of Sorrow, but I don't know much about any of the characters. Is this a title that I can read with little to no knowledge of the characters or are there other books I should pick up before hand?

I try to make all my stories so that people can pick them up without having a degree in continuity, and to be honest, I was not overly familiar with several of these characters myself.

HOWEVER. Even with NO knowledge, it should be pretty easy to follow. The key characters are easy, Red Sonja is THE great swords and sorcery character, from the same world as Conan. Vampirella is a vampire hunter from the planet Drakulon, Dejah Thoris is the princess of Mars, from the John Carter of Mars series.

Most of the rest are easy to understand quickly…some are pulp crimefighters, some are monsters. It’s very easy to jump aboard!

Okay, dang, this is freaking adorable.

Can I again ask if these cosplayers can identify themselves so I may credit them?

And also, HOW CUTE IS THIS?

sorry if this is a question you get a lot, gail, but considering there is a large number of queer women in the world of batman but queer men are near non-existent, do you think more queer male characters should come out/be created? (personally i think two-

Yes, I absolutely do, which is part of why I made Catman canonically bi.

I don’t doubt that a lot of the lesbian characters were created with the best of intentions, I don’t. But it’s also true that for many people, super-hot gay WOMEN are a lot more palatable than a gay man, and that’s just insulting to everyone.

I am trying to do something about it, I’ve created several gay male characters but I only have one mainstream book right now.  We need to get everyone on board. I love Batwoman and Scandal and all of those great characters. I want them to get a lot of love and exposure.

But it’s absolutely glaring and ridiculous how few gay male heroes there are at the big two. It’s too crystal clear to be accidental.
