But how come when I make the scones, they don't got that good flavor like yours, Gail?
Do I gotta tell you again how you add the orange zest, nerdy? You’re gonna make me tell you AGAIN?
Scripts This Weekend At River City Comic Expo
Okay, I was able to get ONE script formatted and printed for the con (Batgirl) but hubby found a box of some scripts that got left behind when we went to another con so I will have a small sampling of Sonja, Convergence, and Secret Six. But only a couple of each, I think! So if you want one of those, PLEASE come to my table early. They are 15 bucks each and I always sell out. I print just thirty copies of each script and that’s it.
Thank you!
Perhaps the Golem metaphor is apt in that the Golem was raised to protect a downtrodden people - the same way I look to Diana as someone who would fight to protect me and other women.
Yeah, that’s an interesting idea, except Diana wasn’t created as a protector.
But it’s interesting to think about. Hmmm.
Do you ever see yourself moving away from writing to more of an editorial role or maybe founding your own comics imprint to foster other women and minorities in comics?
No, it’s not what I would be good at.
Those skills are rare and precious, and I don’t have them. I try to help in the way that I can actually at least attempt to do some good, but editing and business are not in my skill set at all. I would rather have someone great doing those things and I try to support them.

let’s get something straight here, captain. i am not a doll nor a puppet, nor a totem. i have a soul.
wonder woman vol. 3 #17
Send that girl back to school with THESE pictures on her lunch box.
I was trying to remember what I was thinking of when I wrote these words and this sequence, and it hit me suddenly.
A recent Wonder Woman writer (NOT Greg Rucka) had connected Diana metaphorically to the Jewish concept of a GOLEM, and was saying that that’s what she was, I think ostensibly because she was made of clay.
I thought that was a very odd thing to say, and the more you know about what the Golem is, the less it seemed to apply to Wonder Woman. Then the discussion was going around that she was a doll or a totem, and that just seemed to be an attempt to dehumanize the character and Batman-her-up a bit, as many people seem obsessed with doing.
I don’t buy it. I consider Wonder Woman’s origin to be quite beautiful, and a metaphor for adoption and acceptance and creating your own family. She can be a badass and not be an emotionless vengeance machine.
I would love to see the Golem idea explored in comics, I often put little nods to Isaac Bashevis Singer in my comics, but I felt that idea was very misapplied in this case, and I wanted to say for the record that an unusual birth doesn’t preclude being human.

This is the stuff I get in my email almost every day. Amazing.
This is a new character, the TRAVELLER, who is a central character in the current SWORDS OF SORROW book. This art is by the book’s penciller, the remarkable SERGIO DAVILA.
Just gorgeous. I could look at it all day. We had a blast working together and as a gift, he has offered me any page of original art from the entire series.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO CHOOSE. So many cool characters!
Do I pick Sonja? Vampirella being eaten by a dinosaur? Jungle Girl? Jane Porter? Do I pick a page with all of them, knowing he can sell those pages for more money at cons?
ARGGHH!

I was worried about the new Secret Six because I don’t like change (especially when it involves Catman and/or Catmen) but, please, never again let me doubt gailsimone, not even for a second.
HA!
That was my favorite page I wrote this year, I think. Glad you are onboard!
I admit we started a little rocky but Secret Six is BACK and the stuff coming up is absolutely APPALLING. :)

River City Comic Expo This Weekend!
I will be a guest of this one-day event in Little Rock, Arkansas, this weekend. This is my first con in this state!
It’s August 29th, should be a lot of fun. Michael Golden will also be there.
A bunch of people have already asked if I will have scripts available. As of now, I will not, I haven’t had a chance to have any printed, but if the print shop can do them today, I will do my best to bring at least a couple options. Probably Batgirl or Secret Six, maybe?
Anyway, come say hi. I SHOULD have some books available at my table, but as always, I am delighted just to get to meet you. Come by my table!

Today we have TWO really fun SWORDS OF SORROW tie-in books (which you can read by themselves, you don’t have to be following the main title).
First, RED SONJA VS. JUNGLE GIRL written by the great Marguerite Bennett, currently killing it on A-Force, Bombshells and Angela. She turned in a hugely fun romb, really showcasing the differences between the two characters and creating just a really entertaining adventure tale. I loved it and you will, too.
And I am equally excited by PANTHA VS. JANE PORTER, by the wonderful Emma Beeby. You might know Emma as the first woman writer of Judge Dredd, but she really is a gifted, versatile writer you will be hearing a bunch more from, soon. She’s got the goods, and this story is QUITE thrilling. I love Jane Porter, and Pantha is totally badass. Great fun.
I am VERY proud of these two books. Please check them out and support great pulp stories starring fabulous babes!
