I know it may be to soon to say anything, but are you planning on attending C2E2 again this year? My girlfriend and I had tickets last year, but had to cancel last minute. We both really wanted to meet you.

I try not to go to the same cons over and over because I get a lot of invitations and it seems a bit unfair to those organizers, but C2e2 is one I go to almost every year.

Not sure yet, sorry!

Saskatoon Comic Expo and Edmonton Comic Expo!

Hi, everyone!

I haven’t been to a Canadian con in a while so I have been getting a lot of email and dm questions, I thought I would answer them all here in one gulp. :)

First, I will be at the Saskatoon con both days, and the Edmonton con all three days. I am doing two panels each con, I think, but I don’t have those schedules yet.

I don’t charge for signatures, photos or hugs or anything like that. If you have a hundred comics, I will happily sign them. I may do them in stacks, so I can help other people in between, but I will sign them, no problem.

I will have some limited number of scripts and books for sale at Saskatoon for sure, not positive about Edmonton, because we are not coming up to restock in-between. I think the scripts I have are Batgirl, Convergence, Red Sonja, and Secret Six. If you would like one (or more), please drop by my table early as I only print thirty of each issue I take, and I never reprint them, and we always, always sell out. Scripts are $15 US (what is that in Canadian right now?), signed and numbered. If you want a script or books, you don’t need to wait in line, just go to my hubby (the tall blond guy) and he will take care of you so the thing you want isn’t sold out before you can buy it.

But I stress again, I started bringing stuff because people have asked for years. NO PURCHASE IS EVER NECESSARY AT ALL.

Also, remember to bring your Nintendo 3ds if you can! I will have my family’s 3ds’s, and if you get a streetpass from me, it will contain a clue to an upcoming story or book. :)

I am no longer gluten-free, I still try to watch the gluten intake but it’s not a problem any longer (people asked!).

My hubby RocketSpouse will be there, probably making fun of Tim Horton’s.

Oh! And as always, I know the people running this con and they are top-notch, they have a solid no-harassment policy. But IF you are being made uncomfortable (and I don’t care what gender you are, whether you are cosplaying or not, or what the nature of the problem is, don’t let any of that stop you), you can ALWAYS come to my table even if you just need a safe place to sit for a moment.

We won’t judge you, we will just watch over and make sure you’re okay and contact the organizers if necessary. My hubby is really, REALLY good at telling people to piss off if they are overstepping your boundaries. SO. If you can’t find security, just come to my table and we’ll make sure everything is okay.

Finally, I have talked about this a bit before, but I am actually painfully shy. Meeting readers is always a joy, but sometimes, unexpectedly, the shy thing can pop up and I don’t really have much control over it. If for any reason I seem a little far away, it’s just a bit of that popping up. Tell me to snap out of it and it’ll be fine. :)

SEE YOU THERE!

hypothetically if there was a secret six/bat girl crossover (since like 1/3 of the new team came from your batgirl run) and you wrote it would you have to communicate with the new creative team to figure out how their batgirl would fit in or would it use

I would, but not every writer does. I just feel it’s basic courtesy. Some editors want to be the go-betweens if the writers don’t know each other.

Hi, Gail.
I love Catman’s new costume. It’s a welcome change from his classic “not quite Batman” look. Who came up with it?
Apologies if this has already been asked and answered.

It was my IDEA, but that’s like saying I had the idea to write HEY, JUDE or something. I am not a designer, but I did explain what I wanted in some detail, far more than I usually do. I wanted an outfit in pieces, in brown or tan leather (I’m sick of black everything) and I had the idea for the mask. I wanted it to feel like it came apart in pieces, AND that he could wear it without the mask and claws and not seem TOO weird. And it was my idea to have it open in the front so we could see the t-shirt.

My other idea was that it’s reversible. If he flips the pants and jacket, it’s a different, less obtrusive color, so he can go out in public. I’m a sucker for costumes like that. That element never seemed to make it to the design stage.

NOW. That SAID.

Dale Eaglesham did all of it. He’s one of the best designers going. He designed Ragdoll, Scandal, and many many more beloved characters. With him, once he starts drawing, just get the hell out of the way because it’s going to come in looking WAY better than you could have dreamed. Catman had several designs, and this was what we chose from Dale’s sketches.
