That made me picture koala boobs momentarily. THANKS A LOT, GEEKTRESS! :(
Woot! Follow Up To "Make Your Own, Then!"
Very exciting!
A wonderful Tumblr poster has started a Tumblr devoted to posters who aspire to create comics of some kind.
Artists and writers can post their work and ideas, and posters can keep up with their progress. This is a great opportunity, but it needs participants, and some signal boosting, so please spread the word about:
http://makeyourownthen.tumblr.com/
The idea here is not to replace or denigrate fanfic or fanart, the idea is simply to get people connected and exposed, where people can encourage each other and share ideas and tips.
And hopefully, some people will end up making comics of some kind together.
Very exciting.
I don't want to butt in, but my advice is start small, beware of scope creep, be aware of the medium you are using, and take full advantage of the viral nature of Tumblr.
Good luck! Spread the word!

What a mean-spirited, baffling and bigoted piece of trash that article is.
Everything from the shaming of women, to the drive-by insult to trans folk, to the blinkered and ignorant lecturing is wrong, wrong, wrong.
And as a side point, it also happens to be a shitty piece of writing, fake ennui marinated in meandering and unearned snobbery without point, wit, or seemingly, talent.
Repulsive.
Bread and Butter: What If I Told You Comics Saved My Life?
No, they didn't turn into magical glossed papers and saved me from a burning building or some such nonsense.
As you may know from some of my posts (or may not know because seriously, who reads text posts), I used to have some really bad self esteem problems that landed me in some dark corners of…
Sigh.
I have heard things like this from a lot of people. I love that comics have been a positive in your life, I love that the characters helped you find some joy, and thank you for your very kind words.
I don't know you, I'm not familiar with your Tumblr, but judging by this, I find it impossible to believe that you are unlovable. You seem sensitive, intelligent, caring, and kind. These qualities don't fall on everyone like rain from Heaven. Not everyone has them, you seem to have them in great supply.
Comics have been there for me through some really, really rough times. Sometimes they were one of the few joyful things in my life. What I want to say is that going by Tumblr and people I meet at conventions, we are far from alone, and many, many people have experienced those same feelings.
I hope comics and the comics community continue to make you feel happy. You are not alone.

Annnd Cat-Koala retuns! ^_^
Thanks for looking at my semi-Gail Simone-centric google photo-spam of the night! See ya later, Tumblr-ites! Thanks, Gail, for being so wonderful, down to earth and awesome!
You are way too kind, and I am reblogging because LOOK AT THAT KOALA!
My lovely friend Dee, who is awesome in all ways, made me a Black Alice and Huntress plushie, and this amazing Cat-Koala, when I was down in Australia last visit.
You can probably see that my smile is genuine, holy crap, look at it!
The funny thing is, just this morning I moved the Catman and Huntress plushies to my bookshelf right by my computer so they could watch over me as I type. They're looking at me now!
I have to take credit for the Catman koala from Sydney I'm afraid. I was having a Catman logo t-shirt made up which I'd planned to wear to Armageddon, but it didn't arrive in time so I made the outfit for the koala instead. I wish I'd had more time to make him look less dorky! (Also, thank you for signing the massive pile of comics I dumped in front of you, that was just amazing! If you ever make it back to Australia I'll have to bring a wombat dressed as Ragdoll or something next!)
Oh, no!
I'm so sorry! I got my plushies mixed up! SORRY! I love him!
Wow, I feel bad. That was totally my mistake. But he's adorable and sitting looking at me right now!
Oh, don't worry at all! I saw a huge pile of amazing plush on your table by Sunday afternoon so it's no wonder. I'm super glad you liked him, and am very happy that he's still hanging around like…well, like a koala.
It's true that people bring me things at conventions. I always feel guilty because I'm so happy just to talk to readers and so grateful already, but at some conventions, I have to buy another suitcase for the cool booty. Readers are amazing.
They've brought food, home made and local delicacies, toys, games, books, comics clothes, candy, flowers, and endless amounts of homemade stuff. I keep most of it together in one area in my office. Australia was crazy this time, people brought sacks of presents…I never know what to say. It's so kind, but I don't want people to think they HAVE to do that.
The guys at the DC booth always make fun of me for it, they say they've never seen people bring so many little presents. I cherish them, they make me happy for sure. Like this little koala guy still brings me smiles all these months later.
I don't know what to say, readers are the best people in the universe.
