I received a lovely package! Glad to have the full series (for now, anyway; it has to come back sometime)!

And yes, I'm too lazy to flip the picture.

I cannot tell you how much I love this foto.

This can't be legal, can it?

Hi, I hope my question about fanfic didn't sound confrontational, because I have no personal investment in that community. I was wondering what the differences in skill development were when writing fanfic, as opposed to, say, Steven Moffat writing Sherloc

***********

No, it's fine, I wasn't at all offended.

Sometimes, people do get incredibly sensitive about fanfic. I don't know if it's because they feel stereotyped, or that they are just too close, too invested in it. And it can often come off as very hostile in person.  I've had that happen a few times.

But it really doesn't have anything to do with my opinions on fanfic which are almost purely positive.

I got what you meant, in the sense that the orientation (or lack thereof in her case) is not a choice, but choosing to embrace it and live openly is. I've often used the phrase "the only 'choice' I had about being a lesbian was whether or not I'd live open

******

Right, that's more what I meant, but…well, intent is such a convenient excuse.  Saying an orientation is a 'lifestyle choice,' is the exact terminology used to dehumanize and diminish people and has been for a long time.

I should have known better, that's all there is to it.

Ms. Simone, I would just like to say, regardless of the "choice" mistake, how much I LOVE that Tremor is asexual. As an asexual myself, it makes me incredibly happy to actually see asexual characters in things.

You are too kind.  I appreciate all the nice things, but at the same time, I should have known better, I'm not sure what was going on in my beady little brain. Bleah.

I never thought of Tremor's asexuality as a 'choice,' either, which just makes it doubly wrong that I used that phrase.

Anyway, thank you, I promise to try my best to bring her back and when I do, her history will reflect what people have talked about tonight.

I have to be honest, I'm not sure what we're discussing here. I'll take a guess, and if I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me.

First, I don't have a LOT of feelings about fanfic one way or the other, to be honest. The feelings I do have are generally pretty…

That makes some sense, airawyn, I know there are always going to be exceptions. But in general, publishers don't like it for reasons I don't entirely understand.

The Fluffy Singularity: So What I Was Thinking About With Canon Queer Characters

I think fandom plays a huge role in enjoying media. A HUGE role. And while I have issues with some of it (particularly when it comes to race or the treatment of female characters) I think shipping culture and slash fandom is just as big.

But, at…

I have to admit, I had no idea this was happening with Birds of Prey.

It makes me a little sad. I admit freely to playing up the love between Barbara and Canary, but having Starling be openly lgbtq seems very positive and she's a ton of fun. Why not have both?

Because it got spread out on several threads…

I screwed up and got called on it and the posters are right, right, right and I was wrong, wrong, wrong.

In a post about Tremor, a Bengali heroine I created that sadly hasn't been seen since the new 52, I said that she was 'asexual by choice.'

She's…

If it helps you feel any better, I can post up a cup of tea just for you! ^_^

You're awesome, honest, open, down-to-earth, a great listener, and an all-around badass writer. ;)

Take care, Gail! Love ya!

I appreciate it, but when someone screws up, they screw up, and I screwed up.
