Bread and Butter: What If I Told You Comics Saved My Life?

Bread and Butter: What If I Told You Comics Saved My Life?:

combonight:

No, they didn't turn into magical glossed papers and saved me from a burning building or some such nonsense.

As you may know from some of my posts (or may not know because seriously, who reads text posts), I used to have some really bad self esteem problems that landed me in some dark corners of…

Sigh.

I have heard things like this from a lot of people. I love that comics have been a positive in your life, I love that the characters helped you find some joy, and thank you for your very kind words.

I don't know you, I'm not familiar with your Tumblr, but judging by this, I find it impossible to believe that you are unlovable. You seem sensitive, intelligent, caring, and kind. These qualities don't fall on everyone like rain from Heaven. Not everyone has them, you seem to have them in great supply.

Comics have been there for me through some really, really rough times. Sometimes they were one of the few joyful things in my life. What I want to say is that going by Tumblr and people I meet at conventions, we are far from alone, and many, many people have experienced those same feelings.

I hope comics and the comics community continue to make you feel happy. You are not alone.
