Hi! I just wanted to say that I loved Batgirl #9 so much. I do have a question about it, however: Is Mary meant to be related to Archie and Elsie Mitchell or any of the Sunday school attendees with them when they became the only casualties of the Japanese

HA!  That’s a good question!

My feeling is that it’s a different family for the DCu. I am aware of the real incident, even went to the site where it happened, but using the real family names seemed like it would be very disrespectful.

So it’s a different family.

Man.

I love Barbara Gordon so much.

I love her as Oracle, I love her as Batgirl, I love her in Year One, I love her in the cartoons, I love Babs cosplayers…

…I just freaking love her, all right?

I can't help but think I'm going to be really disappointed when Scandal Savage doesn't show up next to Bane in the new Batman film and team up

vezarina:

That would be so awesome

sigh

Yikes, I have to admit, that is something that never even occurred to me.

THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME A NEW SADS!  ;)

Wow.

Thank you for the VERY kind words about Batgirl #9, and in particular, about Mary.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but Scott Snyder fell in love with the character, and…well…

…maybe we haven’t seen the last of her.

What would you recommend as a good point to enter the wild world of comics? I'm interested but just get so overwhelmed because I feel like there is SO much material and it's all so intricately related, and I just don't even know where to begin. Any entry

The new 52 books at dc are much easier to grab onto than the pre-new 52 stuff, because there is less continuity and they are not so interlocked. Of those, Batman, Animal Man, Batwoman, Swamp Thing and Demon Knights are some of my favorites.

At marvel, Dan Slott’s Spider-man is awesome and is careful not to weigh you down with continuity. Anything by Marjorie m. Liu or Kelly Sue DeConnick or Jonathan Hickman will be outstanding.

For indies, I love Rachel Rising, Atomic Robo, and Chew.

Hope this helps…anyone else want to makeSomme suggestions?

If I'm reading Batgirl, am I going to be hopelessly lost in that issue? I have Birds, but the rest of my titles aren't really Bat related. If I get desperate, my husband has the Bat titles, but.

I don’t think you will be lost, I usually try my very best to make my crossover issues make sense on their own. There is a larger story, but I think you will definitely get the important elements if you just read the Batgirl issue OR if this is the only issue of batgirl you have read.

I do highly recommend the Batman issues at least, though, Scott Snyder is doingbrilliant work!
