Upcomic Convention Appearances

These are just in the next couple months or so…

First, DENVER COMIC CON.

I have never been to this con, but have heard great things. Never been to Denver or Colorado at all, except the airport. This con has a ton of media, comics and vo guests (including my favorite, Billy West). It’s on June 15-17, can’t wait for this. Comic guests include Amy Reeder, James O’Barr, Jason Aaron, Barry Kitson, Herb Trimpe and ME! Woot!

San Diego Comicon

This is still up in the air. It MAY happen…I had decided not to go, but some last minute things have made it more likely. If so, hope to see you there. Always chaotic, I never have yet seen what this con is about, because my schedule doesn’t allow it!  July 12-15.

Geek Girl Con

This is one of the highlights of the year…last year was the first, and it was AMAZING. I can’t wait to go again. It’s a great con, but with a more female twist. It’s wonderful, and this year is actually going to be better. You MUST come if you can make it.  August 11-12.

Anyone from my Tumblr readers going to make it to any of these? Please come say hello! And if you do, please let me know your Tumblr handle if that is the only way I know you, otherwise, I GET BEFUDDLED!

I would love to meet as many of you as can make it. Bring as many books as you would like signed, I never have a limit (unless the con does).

And if you have good ideas for fun things for me to do in the area of these cons, let me know, okay?

I Have To Say It Again...

…it makes me feel terrible, but I CANNOT help with school papers or projects, I’m sorry. I get maybe twenty such requests a week and to do a good job, it takes me quite a lot of time for every request, which few people see, so very few benefit from.

If you have questions, feel free to ask me here, and I will always try to answer as many as I can (please be considerate about the number). That way, more people who might be interested for whatever reason can benefit and I can still write for a living. :)

Thank you, sorry to keep reminding people but it still comes up a ton, even more lately. And since I can’t help everyone, I have to just say a flat no. Hate to, have to.

Hey, me again ^^' Just wondering if you use to watch the Birds of Prey series, and if so what was your view on it? Personally, I loved it, especially Oracle :P

I actually haven’t watched it. I watched the pilot episode.

We didn’t have that channel on our cable system when the show was running, and I didn’t want to be influenced by the time we got it.

The lady behind the show, the wonderful and talented Laeta Kalgrodis, was incredibly nice, and a big fan of the comic. She wanted the show to be like the comic, but the network kept messing with it and she eventually had to leave. Great lady.

And everything I’ve seen says Dina was an amazing Oracle.

Always reblogging my beloved Scandal!

But you know it’s weird, I can place every panel on this grid except the bottom left. It’s clear that Nicola drew it, so it must be one of my issues. But I have no idea what scene that is from.

How did I miss that she was holding his hand? Awwwww!

As always, Ragdoll is the right mixture of creepy/adorable.

This just shows what a weird job writing is. I spent maybe an hour and a half deciding whether or not Ragdoll would say, “huh,” in that sentence.

Bane really knows how to talk to a lady

You would be AMAZED at how many swoony letters from female readers I got after this scene. Seriously.

Add one swoony genderqueer to the list, Gail.

HA! I should have added to that description, it’s true. I was just saying that every time we showed sexy Bane (even awkward and unintentional sexy Bane), we got a TON of man-love letters for him. I remember the first time we showed him naked, I got letters from three different Hollywood producer/director guys asking for more.

In this case, I was kind of surprised that so many female-identifying posters seemed to be a bit envious of Spencer in this scene. :)

For myself, any time anyone gets a bit fired up in the pants from a scene in a comic, it  makes me happy, no matter what it is that sets it off.  ;)

My Cosplay as Hispanic!Black Canary

I had such a great time dressing as her although I have no idea how she puts that fishnet on all the time!

Sweetheart, you make Dinah Lance proud. I’m sure you know this, but you look flicking A. MAY. ZING.

Am I the only one who’s completely fine with her being Hispanic but a little turned off by the fact that she isn’t wearing a blonde wig or something? Gawd I’m weird.

“Completely fine with her being Hispanic,” what? She makes a GREAT Dinah! And Dinah’s hair is this color…the blonde is always either a wig or a dye job.

Dinah’s natural colour is black, yes, but the blonde is part of the costume, kind of making it incomplete. Also, my attention to the “incomplete costume” is what I’m trying to get at. The reason I added the “fine being Hispanic” was that I know that people are going to naturally have issues with me thinking I’m focusing on the blonde hair due to ethnicity (which is not, my issue with not having the blonde hair is merely costume accuracy). And in the first place, it’s a cosplay of Hispanic!Black Canary, not Hispanic!Dinah. So please, call off the dogs of war.

Let me just start off by saying No you aren’t weird :P I wasn’t going to respond to this but it didn’t feel right not to when both you and Gail have put your statements forward.  When I found out Comic Con was coming up I decided that I wanted to do a DC cosplay. At first I looked at all the hispanic characters but well there aren’t too many and I didn’t know them well enough to want to cosplay them. After a lot of thought I decided I was going to do Black Canary. Next to Wonder Woman she is hands down my favorite DC Character. I love how sexy she is and I loved how amazing she was in the BOP run from last year. Actually I sorta just love her in anything she appears.

It took me a long time to settle on which of her outfits I was going to try to go for and in the end I chose her Elseworlds portrayal.

It took me a few weeks but I finally had everything I needed for her outfit. Everything but the Blonde Wig. While It may not look it in the photos because of lighting I am pretty dark and Blonde is NOT  a good colour on me and I was not the least bit excited about putting on something that I felt would detract from the overall costume. However I didn’t want to butcher my favorite character so I turned to the only person I felt could give me an honest answer on what I should do. Gail Simone. She’s written the character so who better to get an opinion from? So I wrote her a question here on tumblr asking how a hispanic black canary would do her hair. To my surprise she responded quickly and she told me this:

After much fangirling, cuz I freaking love Gail, I reread her response and decided I WASN’T going to do the Blonde hair. Yeah it would have been fine and more people would have recognized my character at the con but I wasn’t comfortable with doing it and I wanted to do a natural cosplay. (a cosplay that looked like it could be real.) I figured that if Black Canary had been born a light skinned hispanic she would have done the blonde wig and rocked it. But this Black Canary was born with dark skin and she realizes that Blonde is just not going to cut it. Not if she wants to look good anyway.

Cementing that thought was the fact that the Dinah Lance from Elseworlds kept her natural hair and didn’t wear a wig.

Anyways Everyone’s entitled to their opinions but I wanted to let you know why I chose to skip the Blonde wig.

TLDR;

Blonde is a terrible color on me so I decided against the wig.

You did Dinah proud and no explanation was needed, you look like Dinah to me!

Done for me by the fantastic George Perez at the Calgary Comic Expo, it’s Jeannette from Gail Simone’s brilliant title Secret Six.

This absolutely kills me. Good lord, George Perez drawing Jeannette!

That makes three characters of mine George has drawn. SO AMAZING.
