An Interview with Cover Designer, Victorine Lieske

I’m thrilled to present an interview with Victorine Lieske, a cover designer and New York Times Best-Selling Author, who’s agreed to share her insights on cover design. Victorine designed one of my own book covers, A Rose in Bloom, which is still awaiting publication, and I highly recommend her work.
1. How did you get started in artistic cover design?
I’ve always loved art, and I fell in love with graphic design in college, but I didn’t ever freelance my design work until I became an author and saw the need for cover artists. At the time, I knew I had the design skills, but not the photoshop skills. So I watched as many tutorials on Photoshop as I could and jumped into it, determined to figure out how it worked. I must say I fell in love with Photoshop as well.

POLLYANNA – CHAPTER ONE
I’ve been working on some side stories, some short stories and just some random writing stuff on top of The Water Travelers series and was challenged to share some of that. I can’t say where these stories will go, which ones will continue and which ones will be discarded, but feel free to say what you think!
This first one is planned to be a full length novel but is definitely definitely in it’s early stages! You may also notice it’s not in my typical writing style. (Yay for trying new things)
ALSO, I apologize about the wordpress formatting (damn you wordpress.) You can read an easier version HERE.

CHAPTER 1 – END OF FIRST SEMESTER
“Its been six months. Six long, terrible terrible months. And nothings happened. No ones done anything. Nothings moving and—no one seems much different. When your body melts away as the world continues spinning…

Character Interview: Featuring Chase from To Be Honest
Hello, I’m Clean Read’s author TC Booth. I’m excited to share with you an interview with Chase McFall, a seventeen year old boy who works his way into Starla Emerson’s heart from my new young adult novel, To Be Honest.
Where do you go to school and what is your favorite subject?
I’m a junior at Centerville High School in Indiana. My favorite subject is English because I sit with Star in that class. She rocks at figuring out the meaning behind the book quotes our teacher gives us. She’s smart and pretty.
What hobbies or interests do you have?
I compete in extreme sports. BMX competitions are my favorite. My brother is my biggest fan and coach. He has cerebral palsy so he can’t compete himself. I ride for him. He’s…

Worshipping the Ever-Elusive Amazon Book Review

That will result in many book reviews being pulled. Amazon is also cracking down heavily on the practice of review swapping amongst authors.
This is a positive happening for readers. I’m not alone in having skimmed through some stellar reviews, bought the book in question, began to read and found myself stunned at the formulaic, predictable writing, or plot holes, or lack of proofreading or all of the above. I definitely wondered who on earth could have penned those five-star reviews.
Paying for reviews is a major no-no for all self-published authors. Put aside the fact that the big publishing houses pay for reviews all the time. For those of us who have chosen self-publishing…

BOOK REVIEW # 2015-132 – HOW TO WRITE A SIMPLE BOOK REVIEW
Originally posted on :
I received a e-book version of this book through a giveaway on LibraryThing from the author, and the following is my honest opinion.
To set the record straight I’ve been a Book Reviewer since last August and when I saw Ms. Abbott’s book being offered as a giveaway I decided to enter it basically to see if I’ve learning anything through my own experiences writing reviews. Surprise it to say I’ve not, which means the author has done a thorough job in presenting the information contained in this book.
I didn’t start being a Book Reviewer, I started as an author almost three years, and currently have two books written and self-published. I began reading/reviewing books as a way of increasing my writing knowledge with books I’d obtained through giveaways throughout the internet.
Ms. Abbott is correct is saying authors are always looking for reviewers of their books which is…
