To All Book Reviewers – A Thank You
Originally posted on Suffolk Scribblings:
Writing book reviews is tough. It doesn’t matter whether it is a couple of lines and a rating, or a well thought out essay, it takes effort for a reviewer to translate all the emotions and experiences they’ve just felt and translate it into something concise, considered and heartfelt. Many authors complain about how difficult it is to write a plot synopsis or promotional blurb, but it can be just as difficult for reviewers to condense everything they’ve experienced, complete with explanation and reasoning, into a few paragraphs. And then there is the worry about the reaction. Every author understands the anxiety of letting their work go, wondering if people will love or hate what they’ve written, but it is exactly the same for a reviewer, especially if they didn’t enjoy the work they are reviewing.
Some, lucky few, get paid to review books, but most book reviewers do it for free. And this is important for authors to remember…

Rave Reviews Book Club – #onthemarquee
There’s not much that I could personally add here that wasn’t already said.
One candle can light many other candles with little detriment to itself.
You can too.

If you have had many personal converations with me, or you follow my daily personal blog, The Year of Blogging Faithfully, you know that self-promotion is a struggle for me. I just don’t like doing it. I am a fairly confident person, extremely proud of my work, and I know that self-promotion is absolutely necessary for an indie author. And yet I hate it. I love promoting my friends. I love being someone else’s advocate. I love shining the spotlight on someone I believe in. I just love that! But that doesn’t sell books – at least not mine. That doesn’t bring awareness to my work.
Or does it?
Self-promotion is necessary. I know that. If only I could find a group…

New sales peaks for Another Sunset
Kindle sales for Another Sunset jumped Tuesday February 17th (likely from sales the day prior) and these jumps shattered all prior sales records. New reviews have been posted on Amazon and Goodreads and some of these sales are the likely result of those.
Also, my membership and aggressive participation in the Rave Reviews Book Club is also adding to the visibility and promotion of the book in the reading community. (You can join HERE – be sure to let them know Jason Zandri / @GUNDERSTONE sent you).
It is always exciting to reach new highs. Generally after hitting the new peak the number drops off but so far it’s been higher lows and then the sales swing up to new highs.
The Kindle title has been out just ten weeks and I am really excited over the momentum.
Today at the highest point the Amazon Best Sellers Rank was 37,581 in the Paid Kindle Store.
We added the book to a new category over the weekend All Books > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Literary Fiction and it jumped on the sales to 1,357.
In the ALL BOOKS rank it clipped the old number of 81,965 to reach as high as 58,194.
Below are the rest of the stats in the other categories:

BOOK REVIEW – “Magnolia Secrets” by Beth Hale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Two fresh starts offset one another and set worlds into parallel motion.
FOUR STARS * * * *
Lainey was free. She had prepared to leave an unstable world behind her. She was ready to make a brand new life and start it off passionately with Walker, the handsome stranger. It was going to be a heat of a moment launch; a grabbing of the new life by the reigns and taking it for all it was worth.
Walker Bell was in the right place at the right time. He was on his way to a new job in a quiet place, when he happened into that fortune, as their paths crossed that fateful evening.
After the chance encounter, she was gone; much as those nights of singular passion come full circle.
Walker moved along and took up residence in his departed great aunt’s place in New Hope. He was starting a new job there as an officer, working under Police Chief Evan Holley.
The small town with Oak lined sidewalks and a small downtown, with little shops and storefronts, was a far cry from big city Biloxi where he served prior.
As he gets settled in, unpacks, and begins to learn his way around, events take a turn when he discovers at Chief Holley’s picnic that the Lainey he met on his way to New Hope was Lainey Holley and things were not as they seemed.
As more events unfold, the circumstances destabilize for Officer Walker Bell and Lainey Holley as their worlds collide.
I recommend “Magnolia Secrets” by Beth Hale – * * * * Four Stars (out of five)

BOOK REVIEW – “Children Who Never Grow Old” by Kathy Golden
Children Who Never Grow Old by Kathy Golden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Three short tales containing an element of the supernatural.
FOUR STARS * * * *
Children Who Never Grow Old is a short, 15 page read of three stories: Little Mirrors, Tiffany’s Escapes, and Protected.
Two are about the loss of a child from a familial context. The other is about predator, prey, and a magical protector.
All are very tightly written (as short as they are) and they are very well done works for such condensed efforts.
Each story quickly sets the scene and delivers the full tale – again, very impressively done with such short stories.
For me, the only thing I had trouble with was making a connection to the characters (which is a personal preference of mine when I read). Having said that, it doesn’t take away from any of the tales.
I recommend “Children Who Never Grow Old” by Kathy Golden – * * * * Four Stars (out of five)
