Book review

Demon's Fall Demon's Fall by Karalynn Lee

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Demon's Fall by Karalynn Lee

Website: http://www.karalynnlee.com

eBook

Published October 25th 2010 by Carina Press (first published September 15th 2010)

ISBN: 9781426890680

Summary:

She was an angel at the gates of Hell.

When Kenan, an incubus, finds a caged angel for sale in the Hellsgate marketplace, he sees her as a challenge. Certain that his skills in seduction will work as well on a heavenly creature as they do on mortal women, he buys Jahel, intent on having her soul as a novelty in his collection.

Knowing he must gain Jahel's trust if she is to come to his bed willingly, Kenan treats her more as his guest than as his slave. When she reveals what brought her to the mouth of Hell in the first place—retrieving the soul of a young girl she was guarding—he even offers to help her complete her mission.

Though he has promised Jahel freedom, Kenan soon realizes she has captured his heart instead. And as their passion for one another grows, they find themselves caught in a struggle between Heaven and Hell, one that will lead them to the very edge of the apocalypse...

Review:

I have to admit one of the reasons I read this eBook was because of the cover. It's a quite pretty cover. Another reason was because it deals with angels and demons but paints a different world outside of Heaven and Hell.

Kenan is quite sexy though I guess he has to be since he's an incubus. His only reason for buying Jahel was so he could sleep with her and add her soul to his collection because having an angel's soul is very rare. From the minute he brought her back to his house is was full-blown seduction. I was curious to see how Jahel would react to his charm, if she would succumb just like any other mortal woman. I would have loved to read her thought process throughout his endeavors but reading Kenan's thoughts was awesome. Watching him growing more attached to Jahel was great. Once he gets what he wants from her she leaves. He's torn yet thrilled but his love for her takes over and he journey's to find her again. When he does, he proves to her that he loves her and they give up their mortality to grow old together.

Rewind: Jehel came to find the girl she was supposed to be protecting. In my opinion, the girl turned out to be Snow White. Weird right? It was very well played though and I don't have any complaints about it. Well, except the fact that Kenan slept with the Queen (Snow White's evil stepmother or whatever.)

Back on topic. I love this story! It has some steamy sex scenes and an awesomely sketched out world. I'm giving Demon's Fall a 4 star rating.

Book review

Phantom Universe (Summer Chronicles #1) Phantom Universe by Laura Kreitzer

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Phantom Universe (Summer Chronicles #1) by Laura Kreitzer

Website: http://laurakreitzer.com/

Paperback, 240 pages

Expected publication: February 15th 2011 by Obsidian Mountain Publishing

ISBN: 99780982903346

Summary:

Sold into slavery to pirates at the young age of four, Summer learns to survive the rough seas of subterfuge and thieves through silence. When the boat she's lived on most of her life is destroyed, Summer finds herself washed up on the shore of a new world, a phantom universe full of the bizarre and extraordinary. She meets Gage, the one boy who understands the girl with no speech. But when their lives are put on the line, will Summer finally call out? Or will all be lost in the fathomless depth of silence?

Review:

From the very beginning Phantom Universe held my interest. The prologue alone gave just enough information to make you want more. It's one of those books where you can't wait to turn the page.

Summer was kidnapped at the age of four, whipped into silence and sold into slavery to a band of pirates. She puts her trust into Landon, another slave on the ship, after he saved her from an awful occurrence. The first few chapters in part one of this novel are memories of Summer's that are vital to the story and her character development. We are then introduced to Jaden, a fellow slave from Summer's past, who was sent there on a mission for the Secret Clock Society to capture her. She tells them exactly what's going on and helps them escape so they can all free themselves of their slavery. During their escape, Summer goes off on her own and Landon sticks with Jaden to make sure she's actually true to her word. As she's running towards the meeting point something explodes behind her and she's flung over the side of the ship. She takes leave on a dining room table and drifts in the water until she finally hits land and passes out from exhaustion.

She awakes to a smiling Jaden and immediately scans the area for Landon but he's nowhere to be seen. (I was quite upset that there was no Landon right away but Laura is great at building the suspense.) After they find food and drink they relax on the beach until something begins happening to Summer. Her skin begins glowing, a blinding light bursts from her, and they both collapse on the beach.

When she awakes is when we meet the oh-so handsome Gage. It was love at first sight . . . well for me anyway. He is the hero of this story and Summer's eventual love interest. He understands Summer in ways that Landon couldn't and she surprisingly puts her trust into him. This was a very awesome, futuristic world that I loved getting pulled into. I couldn't get enough of her adventures and CANNOT wait for her adventure to continue!

I'm giving Phantom Universe a 5 star rating because Laura truly brought Summer's world to life with her very descriptive writing and, quite literally, page-turning adventure

Day 3: Icepocalypse 2011

Today is day 2 of calling off work due to inclement weather. Yesterday morning around 6am my roads were filled with snow. Yep, not going to work. Today at 4:45am the roads were a sheet of ice about an inch thick. Yep, not going to work again. The only good thing that came out of this icepocalypse was my writing. I had two full days of uninterrupted writing (besides my mom talking to me and making watch something on TV) and it was wonderful. Most of you haven't met Cayden or Oli yet but I've had the pleasure of meeting both of them today. Cayden was being very stubborn and we ended up getting into a heated argument and he disappeared. Oli and his yummy Aussie accent comforted me and begged me to let him tell Callie something very important about who she is and what she can do. He also wanted to expose Cayden for who he truly is but I put my foot down. As hot as Oli is *licks lips* I couldn't let him tell Callie just yet. It would have been awful. Sorry this was such a short post today but Callie is calling me! She wants to tell me the rest of her story before Cayden shows up again and takes her away from me. He likes to show up and the worst times *shakes head*

Day 2: In which Cesya realizes her characters own her.

Cayden doesn't listen. Oli wants to kiss Callie and rip Cayden to shreds. Callie wants to kick Cayden in the face and spend and entire day alone with Oli so she can *bow chicka wow wow*. Lola *sigh* Now she's a completely different story. She doesn't think this story should be about Callie.

Lola and I had a conversation today. It went something like this:

*I'm typing away on my laptop minding my own business. Lola stands in front of me and I don't acknowledge her right away. She leans over the laptop a little and runs her hand over the keys creating nonsense-words. I look at her and scowl*

Me: What the hell was that for?
Lola: *shrugs* You weren't paying attention to me.
Me: *huffs* Well you could have said excuse me or something like that.
Lola: I could have but I didn't. *sits on the couch*
Me: *still scowling* What do you want? I'm trying to write.
Lola: Yeah, about that. Can you like have me in the story more? Or maybe just delete what you have and make it about me?
Me: I could but I won't. *gives a snarky smile*
Lola: My story is better anyway!
Me: Oh yeah? Tell me about it? *quirks an eyebrow*
Lola: Uh, I can't. You have to write it. *shakes her head* I think that blonde hair dye has seeped into your brain. You give us natural blonde's a bad name.
Me: Listen, if you just came here to bug me and make fun of my blondeness, then you can just go away.
Lola: *puppy dog eyes* I'm sorry. Tell me how the story ends.
Me: I can't do that.
Lola: Why not? I need to know!
Me: You'll find out.
Lola: Does it end happy?
Me: Maybe . . . Maybe not.
Lola: *growls* Fine. Then tell me why Callie gets two guys and I get none!
Me: You do get a guy.
Lola: *perks up* I do?! When? Who?
Me: Yes at the end. But I can't tell you who.
Lola: *stands up* You suck. I hate you! *stops off angrily then peeks her head back in the room* Just kidding! I love you! Write like the wind Bullseye! *scampers off*

Day 1

Technically this isn't day 1 but you get the idea. I fianlly had some time to update this and fix it up a bit so hopefully it looks good because I think I'm blogtarded lol. ER is coming together smashingly and hope to have it finished by February 15th or sooner and then it's off to get edited then sent to the publisher. I never expected to get so much feedback on it but then again I never look on the positive side of things (thanks a lot high school teachers from Hell!) But I won't go on about them becuase that's all this blog post will be and I'm sure you don't want to hear me bitching and moaning about that lol. So, would anyone like a quote? Yes? Okay!
"My skin was red and blistered as if I had severe sunburn. That's when I realized I was literally burning from the inside out. Fire sprang forth from my entire body. My clothes burned away as my skin was being scorched from beneath. I couldn't breathe; my lungs strained for air as I felt it being sucked from my body. I lurched my head back as an invisible vacuum sucked my previous life and connection to my soul mate from me. A colorful fog hung above me for a few seconds before it slowly dissolved. I knew then that he had died as the colors faded from sight because in a way, I died too." --Elemental Reality, Chapter 12-Apryll
