PREDATOR: BADLANDS Screens Exceptional Opening Sequence at SDCC; Here’s What We Saw

Predator: Badlands has shared its first 15 minutes with fans at San Diego Comic-Con. And this is one opening sequence that does not mess around. We at Nerdist were privileged to experience this early look at the movie, and here’s what went down.

Predator: Badlands is the first movie to make the Predator into its protagonist. The first 15 minutes set up exactly this conceit. We open in a barren and empty world, where big creatures devour smaller creatures, and the scariest of all creatures is the Predator. The movie then takes us immediately into the inner monologue of our hero Predator, who explains that a Yautja is a friend to none and a predator to all. Bringing us right into the Predator’s head like this really helps to set the scene of Predator: Badlands.

A Predator screaming in Predator: Badlands20th Century Studios

After that, we meet our hero of sorts in the Predator: Badland, the Predator Dek. Dek is smaller than the other Predator we meet in the first 15 minutes of the movie, his brother Kwei. While at first Kwei seems to treat Dek harshly, calling him weak and “too small to take me on,” we soon get a sense that Kwei is just trying to toughen Dek up. He wants to help him learn how to fight as a Predator in the world.

The two engage in a truly epic fight within a cave, where Kwei brutally schools Dek in a fight, but stops short of actually hurting him. It’s a really cool action sequence with Predator sparring against Predator. But also a scene full of heart where we see the two clearly care for one another. “You fight with rage,” Kwei tells Dek, “I fight like father.” Fighting like father is something to aspire to. This makes Dek determined to prove he isn’t weak and to make his brother proud.

Predator: Badlands‘ opening sequence then offers us some true insight into the culture of the Predator. After reminiscing about a time when Kwei protected Dek, the movie introduces us to the idea of how a Predator becomes part of the clan. They must “choose their prey” and bring it back to their homeworld in a ritual of sorts. They use space technology to look at different prey options, and Dek, desperate to cement himself, chooses the unkillable Kalsik on Gemma, the death planet. Kwei is horrified, begging him not to, but Dek says he vows to do it. If he is the weakest he must kill the strongest.

Dek walks around with android Elle Fanning on his back.Twentieth Century Studios

Their debate cuts off when their father makes an appearance. He reveals the Kwei was supposed to kill Dek in his sleep. The only way he can have Predator honor is with his death. But Kwei clearly loves Dek, and refuses to go through with the act, even when their father traps Dek and orders him to. Instead, Kwei cuts Dek looks and traps him in their ship. Their father, of course, takes this well and turns his blade on Kwei instead, forcing Dek to watch as he mercilessly slits his throat and kills him. Their father than sends Dek to Gemma anyway. Nice guy.

We bet Dek will be determined to kill the Kalsik now. The Predator: Badlands really takes us into the heart of the Predator in this look at its opening sequence. And we already are feeling deep and human empathy for him and the loss of his brother. We can’t wait to see all of Predator: Badlands when the movie releases on November 7.

RICK AND MORTY Spinoff Series PRESIDENT CURTIS Announced at SDCC

Since 2013, Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty has created an expansive, multi-dimensional comedy/sci-fi epic that can seemingly go anywhere and do anything. But it wasn’t until now, in 2025, that the series would finally give us something we never expected: a spinoff! At San Diego Comic-Con, during the Rick and Morty panel, fans received a major surprise when Keith David appeared on stage. David portrays President Curtis on the series and has for many seasons. Now, the president gets his own series, aptly titled President Curtis.President Curtis (Keith David) takes center stage in a new Adult Swim series.Adult Swim

In the forthcoming Adult Swim series co-created by Rick and Morty Executive Producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, David will reprise his longtime role as President Andre Curtis. Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Jim Rash (Community) also star.

“President Curtis has always been a blast to play,” said David. “Getting to explore his world more deeply in this new series is a dream. I can’t wait for fans to see what kind of chaos he stirs up when Rick isn’t around to steal the spotlight.”

President Curtis follows the Commander-in-Chief and his eccentric staff as they tackle the kind of crises that Rick Sanchez could never be bothered with. Those include interdimensional diplomacy to paranormal investigations and unexplained phenomena.

It’s clear Harmon has been a big Keith David fan for years. Not only has he been the voice of President Curtis (and Reverse Giraffe) on Rick and Morty, but he played Elroy Patashnik on the final season of Community. Plus he narrated the “Pillows and Blankets” episode.

No release date yet for President Curtis, but we’re excited to see some diplomatic shenanigans once it’s here.

GEN V Season 2 Trailer: Big THE BOYS Cameos, Heinous Secret Projects, and Bad Blood

Class is almost back in session at God U, and we can’t wait to see what bloody exploits are next. Marie Moreau and her friends are living in a more dangerous world than ever before, returning to their not-so-beloved university after months of imprisonment. There’s a new dean in charge and Supes are training to be soldiers in a war against humanity. This is all thanks to Homelander basically becoming the POTUS. So, what can we expect in Gen V season two? Prime Video and the show’s creatives and stars did a big ole superhero landing at SDCC 2025 to reveal more details. One of the biggest reveals was a Gen V season two trailer that’s incredibly bloody and introduces a mysterious new project involving God U called Odessa.

In the clip, we get a surprise appearance by Annie, whom we last saw flying off as many of her Boys comrades were arrested. She tells Marie Moreau that she must go back to God U. Vought’s Project Odessa is back in motion after many years and Marie is the one who has to stop it. There’s a lot going on in this Gen V season two trailer, from big naked Emma to Black Noir. And we sadly see a file about Andre, which will lead to answers about that character’s demise.

As we know, Chance Perdomo sadly died in a motorcycle accident right before filming began for this season. Sean Patrick Thomas, who played Andre’s father Polarity last season, will become a series regular now. And, we are also getting Ethan Slater as the infamous Thomas Godolkin in Gen V‘s second round. Personally, I’m excited about Hamish Linklater as the very terrible new dead at God U.

In addition to this clip, we have a synopsis for this season:

In Season Two, school is back in session. As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander’s iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate and Sam are celebrated heroes, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it.

Bringing some of the most beloved characters in the world of comic books into the most beloved turn-based card game in history feels too good to be true. But it isn’t! Or it is! Daryl and Carol Spark a Spanish War in DARYL DIXON Season 3 Trailer

Traveling across the ocean isn’t necessarily easy, even in 2025. Sure, we have planes that can get you there in a few hours, but the whole process of packing, TSA pestering, and confinement to a metal tube with strangers isn’t fun. Still, I’d take that route to go from Europe to the United States any day. Unfortunately for Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier, it is not that easy because, well, they are over a decade into the apocalypse. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season three shows their difficult journey to get home after ending up in Spain in its latest trailer.

This clip, which debuted at SDCC 2025, shows Carol and Daryl arrive in England only to run into a man who claims to be the last living person there. They hop on a very not-sturdy looking boat but get caught in a storm because Daryl has the worst luck ever. Their little shipwreck, which presumably kills the English guy, lands them in Spain.

They end up in the middle of some serious unrest. And while Daryl actually wants to keep it pushing, Carol insists they help people. Girl, please. Now they are in a battle and have to kill the King of Spain. Truly a mess. But, through it all, Caryl is sticking together and determined to make it back home. The Daryl Dixon season three trailer is a lot, indeed.

We pretty much know that isn’t happening considering the show has been renewed for a fourth season. But this will mark the beginning of the end because that will be the conclusion of this spinoff series. We can’t wait to see if this leads them back home or not. In the meantime, check out these new images from Daryl Dixon season three:

THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON Renewed for Fourth and Final Season

Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier are embarking on a quest to get home, and it might be the hardest journey of their apocalyptic life so far. The duo are clear across the pond and will come up against all sorts of seemingly insurmountable odds as they head through Spain. But, before Caryl’s journey in Spain in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season three commences, the pair set off to an adventure at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, the franchise’s guru Scott M. Gimple, and others came to the stage with some pretty big news. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is renewed for season four, which will serve as the show’s final season to wrap up this globetrotting epic.

The end of Daryl Dixon will put yet another Walking Dead spinoff to rest. After it ends, there will only be Dead City, which is returning for a third season. Daryl Dixon will begin production on its fourth and final season this month, which pretty much means that McBride and Reedus will basically leave SDCC and get right into working again. So, it is very likely that the final season will air in 2026.

Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride Hint That Carol and Daryl’s Walking Dead Stories Aren’t Done Yet Carol and Daryl in The Walking Dead finale season twoStéphanie Branchu/AMC

It’s wild to think that Daryl, who wasn’t a comics character, has become just as popular and beloved as Rick Grimes. It is even wilder to think that Norman Reedus has been playing this character for fifteen years at this point. And, while this series is coming to an end, Reedus hints that Daryl’s journey is not done yet.

Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey,” Reedus said in a statement. “I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride. It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it. This finale isn’t just an ending; it’s a celebration of what we’ve all shared together. Keep carrying that love forward – Daryl’s journey is far from over.”

Is the End of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Setting Up a Crossover (and Reunion) Event?

Hmmmm. There is still that lingering idea of a The Walking Dead big reunion event with Daryl, Carol, Maggie, Negan, Rick, and Michonne. It is not clear if Dead City will go on for a fourth season but it is possible that both of these shows could wrap up around the same time and lead to this big event. Fans really deserve to see that after years of dedication.

Melissa McBride also chimed in about this show’s conclusion, and her statement suggests there’s plenty more story to tell. “It has been the thrill of a lifetime to shoot this part of Daryl and Carol’s adventure together in Europe and I keep coming back for more of these two characters,” she said. “There is still so much story left to tell and so much for the fans to look forward to. I’m going to revel in the moments as they come and am excited for the fans to see what we have been working on in these incredible locations.”

Vince Gilligan’s New Series PLURIBUS Shares Gross First Teaser, Image, Release Date, and Synopsis

Vince Gilligan is on what the kids would call a heater. Most creators would kill to have an iconic smash hit series like Breaking Bad on their resume. Yet he followed that up with Better Call Saul, a prequel series that somehow, against all odds, might have been even better. But now he’s leaving the (fictional) crystal meth game behind, even if he’s staying in Albuquerque. This time he’s cooking up something entirely new for Apple TV. The streamer teased the first look at Gilligan’s mysterious next show with a yellow petri dish sporting a smile with the ominous note “happiness is contagious.”

It then delivered on that promise with a gross release date promo for what we now know is a series called Pluribus. It features a woman in pink scrubs licking office donuts.

Nope, don’t like that.

What is going on here? The show doesn’t take place in Gilligan’s Breaking Bad universe even though it’s set in the same place, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Deadline had previously called it a “fun, mild sci-fi series” akin to E.T. that takes place in in our modern world, but with “a tweak on it, bending reality and focusing on people and exploring the human condition in an unexpected, surprising way.” Now Apple TV has provided a synopsis that sounds way more sinister. It says, “Pluribus is a genre-bending original in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness.”

That sounds like the series could deal with toxic positivity. (Yes please!) That could explain the name, too. Pluribus means “much” or “many” in Latin, but the trailer has a stylized spelling with the number “1” replacing the letter “i.” The United States motto “E pluribus unum” means “out of many, one.” Maybe in this case the worry is many will be made into one. That is unless Better Call Saul and Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn’s main character can save everybody from “happiness.”

We have a little bit more time to theorize. The show debuts with its first two episodes (of nine) on November 7.

A yellow petri dish with a smile made by a cotton swabApple TV

Saving people from joy might sound like the work of an antihero. But we’ll seemingly be able to fully root for a Gilligan main character this time around. The first official image from the show features Seehorn’s unhappy, burdened hero looking very worried.

Rhea Seehorn on the phone looking worried on PluribusApple TV

The show also stars Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s  Karolina Wydra and Carlos-Manuel Vesga (The Hijacking of Flight 601). Guest stars include Miriam Shor (American Fiction) and Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death).

Apple TV has already committed to two seasons. If Pluribus is good we expect more than that. Happiness is contagious, after all. Well, that is unless one person can stop the spread.

Hopefully she starts by stopping people from licking donuts.

KING OF THE HILL Revival Recasts Joseph Gribble Voice Actor, Adds New Key Characters

You thought going back to the basement of That ’70s Show with That ’90s Show was a nostalgic trip down memory lane? Well, hold onto your beer cans because you’re about to be standing in front of a fence with some pals. A King of the Hill revival is officially heading to Hulu, and it’s bringing the whole gang back together.

In a fresh clip from King of the Hill, Bobby tells his dad Hank that the world has changed. Boy, doesn’t that feel super true right now. You can catch it around the :23 mark in the above video.

King of the Hill Season 14 Revival Synopsis

Variety reports that this revival will give us a time jump with an adult Bobby Hill working as a chef. Initially, we wondered if Hank was still selling propane or if he’d gone into an early-ish retirement… And now we know. King of the Hill season 14 has shared its official synopsis.

The King of the Hill revival description reads:

After years working a propane job in Saudi Arabia to earn their retirement nest egg, Hank and Peggy Hill return to a changed Arlen, Texas to reconnect with old friends Dale, Boomhauer and Bill. Meanwhile, Bobby is living his dream as a chef in Dallas and enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph and Chane.

Fascinating.

King of the Hill Revival Cast

Co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are returning for this King of the Hill reunion. Mike Judge recently had a successful time reviving yet another adult-animated dark-comedy favorite, Beavis and Butt-Head. In Hulu’s King of the Hill Revival, Judge will reprise his role as that bumbling patriarch Hank Hill. Kathy Najimy returns as Peggy. It really is giving us Red and Kitty goosebumps all over again.

According to IndieWire, Ted Wassanasong, Chane Wassanasong, and Joseph Gribble will all have new voice actors whose ethnic identities align much closer with those characters. Ted, a Laotian businessman and investor in Bobby’s restaurant, will now be voiced by Kenneth Choi. Chane, Ted’s son and Bobby’s former childhood bully and current business partner, will be voiced by Ki Hong Lee. Joseph Gribble, Bobby’s half-Native best friend, will be voiced by comedian Tai Leclaire, who is of the Mohawk Nation of Kahnawà:ke.

New characters include Keith David’s Brian Robertson, who is now a part of Hank’s friend circle. This is quite the change considering Hank’s close friends were all white men in the original series. Anthony “Citric” Campos will voice  Emilio, a chef at Bobby’s Dallas restaurant.

In addition, Deadline reported that we’ll see the return of “Stephen Root as Bill, Pamela Adlon as Bobby Hill, Johnny Hardwick as Dale, and Lauren Tom as Minh.” It wouldn’t be King of the Hill without them. However, Johnny Hardwick passed away back in 2023, but we will still hear his voice in at least some episodes. For the rest of the time, voice actor Toby Huss, a King of the Hill alum who voiced Kahn Souphanousinphone and Cotton Hill will the voice the role of Dale.

This revival has been long-anticipated and in the works since 2017. The original show ran from 1997 to 2010 and had nearly 300 episodes. It zeroed in on one family in Texas as they navigated the perils of ordinary life, growing up, and evolving. We’ll feel interested to see how the series designs itself for modernity. The original episodes of King of the Hill, can, of course, be streamed on Hulu.

— Mike Judge (@MikeJudge) March 20, 2020

Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu, and Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals, notes, “We are all so excited to welcome back Hank, Peggy and Bobby, and to see what they have to say about the world we live in and continue the conversations we began years ago. This show has all of the perfect ingredients to meet this moment in animation at Hulu, and we’re so thankful to be having those conversations alongside this talented group.”

Welcome back propane and propane accessories to your life. We can’t wait to see what this King of the Hill revival has in store when it drops on August 4. All 10 episodes of the revival series will release at one time.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot Adds Five New Cast Members

For a long time, Sarah Michelle Gellar has denied any desire to return to her role as “The Chosen One,” Buffy Anne Summers. But recently, Gellar said she might be interested, thanks to the success of legacy sequels like Dexter: Original Sin, in which she stars. Now, it’s official — Buffy the Vampire Slayer is coming back to stake the undead, in a new sequel series reboot from Hulu. Via Variety, we’ve learned that the pilot has an official order from Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman.

Now, there are a few cast members joining Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy and Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the show’s new teenage vampire slayer Nova. Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock, Daniel Di Tomasso and Jack Cutmore-Scott will all join as series regulars in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.

'Buffy' Reboot Casts Faly Rakotohavana, Jack Cutmore-Scott, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock & Daniel Di Tomasso https://t.co/AcWwYPTNiN

— Deadline (@DEADLINE) July 24, 2025

Rakotohavana will play Hugo, a geeky yet privileged student who will likely be in Nova’s friendship circle. Jean will play Larkin, a “chronic do-gooder” kid. Bock is Gracie, the leader for a collective of church-going students. Di Tomasso will portray Abe, Nova’s single dad and a photojournalist. Scott is Mr. Burke, a popular high school teacher.

The former Poker Face showrunners will write, show run, and executive produce. Oscar winner Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce the Buffy reboot. However, that’s likely just for the pilot episode.

Regardless, we feel excited about this development because the Buffy reboot has officially kicked off production. We can’t help but feel this makes everything in the world just a little bit better.

According to a recent Deadline interview with Disney TV executive Eric Schrier, Gellar is an executive producer for the Buffy reboot along with Poker Face’s showrunner and her sister, who is a writer, penning the scripts.

“Sarah Michelle Gellar has been a part of it from the get-go as well; she is an executive producer,” he affirmed. “[Executive producer] Gail Berman is back; she’s been behind the scenes trying to pull it all together. We have Nora and Lilla Zuckerman writing it, whom we have a deal with; they’re great.”

Gellar continues to give updates about the Buffy reboot, saying that things are moving forward nicely. “We’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated,” Gellar told People. “But it’s going to be a process, I think… to do it the way it needs to be done, everyone has to be patient with all of us, because this isn’t something that [will just happen].”

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot Sequel Series Will Focus on a New Slayer

Although the series will still use the title Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Buffy sequel series will focus on a new Slayer. Gellar will appear in a recurring role rather than leading this reboot series. The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series finale in 2003 ended with girls all over the world activating their Slayer powers. So there will now be a generation of Slayers who might need Buffy Summers, the Prime Slayer, as their mentor. We can easily see that as the premise of this Buffy the Vampire slayer reboot sequel series. We’ll just have to wait and see to know for sure, though.

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy the Vampire Slayer season five.Twentieth Century Television

TVLine reports that this new Slayer will be more like Willow than Buffy. The publication reports, “That new Slayer, TVLine can exclusively report, seems to skew more Willow than Buffy. Per preliminary and subject-to-change intel, she’s a cerebral 16-year-old named Nova (though we’re fairly certain that name is just a placeholder) who is very smart and a bit of a loner….Her buddies, aka those who would’ve been considered the “Scoobies” in the original series, will include Hugo, an out-and-proud nerd who comes from money, and Gracie, a young expert on vampires who’s an acolyte of Gellar’s Buffy.”

Ryan Kiera Armstrong has been cast as this new character.

The BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot Has Found Its New Chosen OneBut Sarah Michelle Gellar Will Absolutely Return as Buffy Summers

Although she may not be the main character anymore, Sarah Michelle Gellar will always be the main character in the hearts of Buffy fans. And we’re so glad that Gellar will return as Buffy Summers in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot sequel series. We couldn’t have done it without her. Sarah Michelle Gellar recently spoke out on her Instagram about returning as the iconic character. Here message was both heartfelt and gorgeous, focusing on how right this reboot is for Gellar, Buffy fans, and the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a whole.

One name you’ll notice not attached is that of original Buffy creator and showrunner Joss Whedon. Once upon a time, the notion of a Whedon-less Buffy series without its creative voice would have been blasphemous. But in the last few years, Whedon’s name has become toxic. Several of his former Buffy cast, as well as several Justice League cast members, have accused him of running an unpleasant set to say the least. Regardless, as the series creator, he’ll probably cash some form of check for the series even if he has no creative involvement anymore. Additionally, except for Sarah Michelle Gellar’s exciting return, we have no confirmation about other former cast members or writers coming on board for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot sequel series. But we expect a lot more news on this one in the months ahead.
