Jason Momoa Shaves Beard for First Time in 6 Years to Become DUNE: PART THREE’s Duncan Idaho

Dune: Part Two ended with Muad’Dib fulfilling his own terrible vision and leading the Fremen on a holy war throughout the galaxy. What happened after the Kwisatz Haderach left Arrakis? We’re going to find out when director Denis Villeneuve completes his third and final film in the franchise, which will adapt the novel Dune: Messiah. Who will star in his next spice-y epic? When will it come out? And what can we expect from the movie?

One thing we can expect is a clean-shaven Jason Momoa. Even though he hates it, the actor shaved his beard for the first time in six years to prepare for Dune: Part Three. He shares, “This is the kickoff for Dune 3.” He sighs wistfully, “Only for you Denis.”

Here’s everything we know about Dune: Part Three so far.

TitlePaul Atreides, eyes spice blue, stands alone in the desertWarner Bros./Legendary

This Dune movie is based on Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah, his second novel in the series. Denis Villeneuve has also said he is not making a traditional trilogy with his three films, but rather that he made a “diptych” with his first two installments. However, the film’s official title still seemingly makes it read as the third movie in a trilogy. It’s called Dune: Part Three.

Dune: Part Three‘s Plot Stilgar with a stillsuit straw in his nose in the Dune: Part Two trailerWarner Bros./Legendary

While there is no official synopsis for the film yet, Villeneuve is adapting Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah. The director has said the movie will take place roughly 12 years after the end of Part Two, be “completely different” from the first two movies, and “will finish the Paul Atreides arc.”

Changes Villeneuve made in his first two movies will have a butterfly effect on Dune: Part Three, but the novel’s synopsis provides an idea of the general story. Here’s Dune: Messiah‘s synopsis from the official Frank Herbert website:

Dune Messiah continues the story of Paul Atreides, better known—and feared—as the man christened Muad’Dib. As Emperor of the known universe, he possesses more power than a single man was ever meant to wield. Worshipped as a religious icon by the fanatical Fremen, Paul faces the enmity of the political houses he displaced when he assumed the throne—and a conspiracy conducted within his own sphere of influence.

And even as House Atreides begins to crumble around him from the machinations of his enemies, the true threat to Paul comes to his lover, Chani, and the unborn heir to his family’s dynasty…

In addition to directing, Villeneuve once again co-wrote Dune: Part Three with Jon Spaihts. The two penned the previous installments together. The movie comes from Legendary Pictures with Warner Bros. Pictures serving as the distributor.

The legendary Hans Zimmer will also return to the franchise to compose the score.

Production on Dune: Part Three officially began on July 7, 2025, in Budapest.

Dune: Part Three‘s CastZendaya looks worried as Chani in Dune: Part TwoWarner Bros./Legendary

Dune: Part Three will see the return of Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Paul’s sister Alia.

Jason Momoa also revealed/spoiled he’ll also be back as Duncan Idaho, even though the character died in Dune: Part One. His son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, and Silo’s Ida Brooke will join the franchise as Paul Atreides’ twin children, Leto II and Ghanima. In Dune: Messiah, they are also the children of Chani, but after the end of Dune: Part Two, it’s unclear if that will still be true in Villeneuve’s adaptation.

Anya Taylor-Joy Dune: Part Two role as Alia AtreidesWarner Bros./Legendary

Dune: Part Three will also introduce Robert Pattinson as Scytale, one of the major villains of Dune: Messiah.

It’s unclear if Rebecca Ferguson will reprise her role as Paul’s mother, Lady Jessia, but we are hopeful she will.

Dune: Part Three is scheduled to arrive in theaters for its unholy holy war on December 18, 2026.

Ulrich Thomsen Wraps as Sinestro on the DCU’s LANTERNS Series, Shaves Mustache

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU is officially off and running. We have movies and TV shows to look forward for the foreseeable future, and some of them are already in the works. Creature Commandos is already streaming on Max. Superman will hit cinemas in July while Peacemaker season two will premiere in August. The next series we have to look forward to doesn’t have a release date as of yet. However, it’s the project we’re maybe the most excited for at the moment. That is, of course, Lanterns, at last a full scale prestige drama series focusing on the oft-overlooked intergalactic police force.

We learned a little while ago that Danish actor Ulrich Thomsen will play iconic DC supervillain Sinestro. But it seems that Lanterns is steadily moving along, because the actor has now wrapped his role on the show. In celebration, he revealed an image of himself shaving Sinestro’s iconic mustache. But no red is… yet… in sight.

This is everything we know so far about Lanterns.

Title

The title of the series is simply Lanterns. The green is implied, I guess.

In his initial video announcing the DC Studios slate, James Gunn described the show John Stewart and Hal Jordan investigating a “terrifying mystery” that has huge ties to the entire franchise. He likened the “Earthbound” story to True Detective.

Later descriptions include a fuller look at the plot. “Lanterns follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

Behind the Scenes

Ozark showrunner and True Detective: Night Country producer Chris Mundy will serve as Lanterns‘ showrunner. Mundy along with comic writer Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow) and Damon Lindelof (Lost, Watchmen) have written the series pilot and bible.

James Gunn and Peter Safran said of the announcement: “We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris, Damon and Tom at the helm. John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman.”

“When we first started the DCU, the first couple of weeks of heading this out, we got together with a group of writers, and Tom King was one of those writers, and we were in this room, and we came up with sort of this concept for Lanterns. It’s a much more it’s a very grounded series, a very real series, which is a strange thing to say about a Green Lanterns show. But it’s going to be something like nobody’s ever seen before.”

James Hawes, director of series like Doctor Who, Penny Dreadful, and Black Mirror, will direct the the first two episodes of Lanterns. He, along with the writers above, will serve as executive producers.

Taking to social media, James Gunn revealed a first-look image from Lanterns. And in it, we get our first look at Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern Ring. Additionally, we see Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart together for the first time.

Gunn notes in his post, “Excited that #Lanterns is now in production. DC Studios’ new show for HBO and Max, from creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, & Tom King, starring Kyle Chandler & Aaron Pierre, is something really special.”

Filming is expected to take place from January to June 2025.

Lanterns‘ CastKyle Chandler as Hal Jordan in LanternsNBC/DC Comics

The series will focus on the veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan working a case with rookie GL John Stewart. In order to play these roles, DC would need some heavy hitters. And heavy hitters they got! Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Friday Night Lights) has been cast as Hal Jordan.

To play the role of John Stewart, DC cast Aaron Pierre. Pierre had a big 2025 with both the Netflix thriller Rebel Ridge and as the titular voice in Disney’s not-live-action live action film Mufasa.

“Aaron Pierre is somebody who I’ve wanted to work together with for a long time,” said James Gunn during an NYCC panel. “People don’t know, but he was almost cast as Adam Warlock. He’s an amazing actor, and I just really admired him from the beginning of his career. Seeing him read with Kyle was one of those miraculous moments. I don’t care what they’re saying, I just love what they’re saying together.”

Boardwalk Empire‘s Kelly Macdonald also joins Lanterns as “Sheriff Kerry, a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.” According to Deadline, Kelly Macdonald’s character may also “be a potential love interest for Chandler’s Hal Jordan.” Very interesting.

Additionally, Jason Ritter joins Lanterns as Billy Macon. The official description for this character notes, “Billy Macon is a good-looking charmer who does his father’s bidding. Capitalizing on his family’s reputation, he clings to his small-town ego and has everything to lose.” Ulrich Thomsen will play villain Sinestro.

Finally, Deadline revealed that J. Alphonse Nicholson, known for his role on P-Valley, will have a recurring role as a younger John, Sr. in the series. Sherman Augustus will have a more regular role as the the current John, Sr.

Lanterns‘ Release Date

As of yet, Lanterns has no official release date. However, James Gunn gave us a hint as to when it will likely drop. He intends for the series come out around the same time as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which currently looks to bow in June 2026.

AVATAR Animated Anthology Series In Talks at Disney, Teases James Cameron

Everyone can, and does, make jokes about James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. “Nobody can remember any of the characters!” and, “When’s the last time you had a conversation about Avatar?” are the most common. Well, you know who can remember every Na’vi’s name and talks about those movies all the time? Accountants. Pandora is a fictional world that doubles as a real mint. People all around the world show up in record-setting droves when a new film arrives in theaters. So while people might laugh, don’t be surprised if James Cameron’s dream for an Avatar spinoff comes true. The director says he hopes to make an Avatar animated anthology series.AVATAR Animated Anthology Series In Talks at Disney, Teases James Cameron_1Ubisoft

Cameron spoke to Empire about Avatar: Fire and Ash for the magazine’s upcoming issue on the franchise’s third film, but during the interview he touched on an idea he has for other stories from Pandora, including for an animated series. Here’s what he told Empire about his discussions with Disney about the future of the planet

I said, “Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that’s essentially in the world [of Avatar], but stories that you wouldn’t have expected from that world.” There might even be an animated feature in there – it might be a feature for streaming, or a theatrical feature.

AVATAR Animated Anthology Series In Talks at Disney, Teases James Cameron_220th Century Studios

Avatar has already spawned a video game and an entire theme park land. An Avatar animated anthology series and/or feature film doesn’t seem that outrageous. It might actually be the most interesting way to explore that world and the Na’vi. A show set in Pandora also has a chance to be one of the best-looking cartoons ever.

Don’t expect to see it soon, though. If it even happens at all. Cameron also said they haven’t done much work on the concept yet. “We’re still gathering our stories and that sort of thing. And I’ve got to find the boutique filmmakers, the animators, that want to do it,” he said.

Plenty of people will instinctively make a joke about an Avatar animated anthology series. None of those people will be Disney accountants.

BLACK PANTHER 3 is Marvel’s Priority Over BLADE and DEADPOOL 4 (Report)

With The Fantastic Four: First Steps now out in theaters, MCU fans will now suffer a year-long drought of without new Marvel content. Well, on the big screen, anyway. There won’t be another Marvel Studios film until Spider-Man: Brand New Day next July, and then it’ll be another six months until Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters. So what’s Marvel’s focus once the two guaranteed hits of Spidey and Avengers are out of the way? According to a new Variety report, Black Panther 3 and X-Men are the top priorities for Marvel’s post-FF future. Poor Blade is sent to the back burner yet again. And even a no-brainer like Deadpool 4 isn’t a priority right now, which seems rather odd. From Left to Right: Wesley Snipes as Blade, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.New Line Cinema/Marvel Studios

What is Marvel’s Mystery Movie in 2027?

At the moment, Marvel Studios has a release date for something on July 23, 2027. The film will presumably be set between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Logic suggests that whatever this movie is will take place on Battleworld, the hodgepodge planet made up of different realities.

So, which character would fit that backdrop? First on our list is Doctor Strange. His second solo outing, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, made nearly a billion dollars. It would make sense for Stephen Strange to round out his trilogy with an adventure set on Battleworld. Another character that would thrive in this scenario is Shang-Chi, whose sequel is long overdue. According to reports in 2022, the rumored subtitle of that movie was Shang-Chi and the Wreckage of Time

When Will Black Panther 3 Take Place?

With the rebooted X-Men film from Jake Schreier not arriving until after Secret Wars, our best guess is a Ryan Coogler-helmed Black Panther III. This is our top choice for what that potential 2027 mystery Marvel movie is, after Strange and Shang-Chi. Certainly, a Battleworld scenario allows for Shuri as Black Panther, or even an aged-up version of T’Challa II, who we met in the post-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

What does the Kingdom of Wakanda even look like as a realm like Battleworld? We’ll see another side of Wakanda soon in the Eyes of Wakanda animated series on Disney+, which Coogler produced. With Sinners now behind him, Coogler might be itching to finish his Black Panther saga in glorious fashion. Now, let the speculating commence on just who will play the adult T’Challa II in this film!

As for that eventual X-Men project, the same Variety piece said that Marvel Studios was going to bring in fresh faces rather than A-listers to play the young mutants. Part of this is to keep the price tag down, which is how Marvel Studios did things back in Phase One. The emphasis will be on the X-Men being young characters, like the original Lee and Kirby X-Men. Or, for a more recent reference, as they were in the animated X-Men: Evolution. One thing is certain, MCU content may slow down, especially compared to the glory days of Phase III, but it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Did THE FANTASTIC FOUR Tease Another Tony Stark Variant?

The Fantastic Four: First Steps formally introduced Marvel’s First Family to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, along with the Jack Kirby-inspired universe Earth-828. Yes, technically, we met a version of Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness played by The Office alum John Krasinski, but he kind of felt like an impasta if you ask me. You know, because Wanda Maximoff turned him into spacetime spaghetti? Jokes aside, the real question is whether First Steps also teased the arrival of another Tony Stark variant. And we’re not talking about Robert Downey Jr, who will next appear in Avengers: Doomsday as Doctor Doom.Did THE FANTASTIC FOUR Tease Another Tony Stark Variant?_1Marvel Studios/20th Century Studios

We’re talking about an easter egg that could set up the arrival of another Iron Man variant in the MCU. This could also validate many a fan theorist out there. Especially those who have been feverishly speculating since the lead-up to Multiverse of Madness. We’ll explain in just a moment, but tread carefully if you haven’t seen The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Did THE FANTASTIC FOUR Tease Another Tony Stark Variant?_2How Did Fantastic Four Tease a Tony Stark Variant?

With its ’60s-inspired Space Age aesthetic, The Fantastic Four: First Steps both felt like a breath of fresh air in the MCU and like it was connected to the wider story of the Multiverse Saga. The post-credits scene teased the arrival of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, and the movie gave us cameos from other Fantastic Four variants (in the most pedantic sense possible). However, our hunt for another Tony Stark focuses on a detail so small that you might have missed it without the aid of Pym Particles.

Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) lying in bed with their newborn son Franklin in The Fantastic Four: First StepsMarvel Studios

Early on, Sue Storm confirms that she is pregnant with the baby who would become Franklin Richards. While Franklin’s arrival has massive implications for the future of the MCU, the way Sue learns she’s pregnant could too. The pregnancy test that Sue uses is labeled “Stark Sure,” which many fans believe is a reference to Stark Industries. The existence of Stark Industries in Earth-828 implies the existence of presumably Howard Stark and possibly Tony Stark as well.

Given the 1960s setting, it’s highly likely that Tony Stark isn’t born yet in this particular timeline. Although the Fantastic Four and Tony Stark are contemporaries in the comics, we’re used to seeing a more modern Iron Man in the MCU. But this is a different universe than Earth-616 (or Earth-199999, depending on your preferred nomenclature). That means, there’s a non-zero chance we could meet a very different version of this wealthy industrialist-turned-armored Avenger. Especially in light of Kevin Feige’s revelation that Avengers: Doomsday will return to Earth-828 to explore more of that universe.

Who Could Play the Iron Man Variant in Secret Wars?

However, this won’t be a simple case of Robert Downey Jr. being in two places at the same time. His tenure as Tony Stark has presumably come to a close and now he is inexplicably playing Victor Von Doom. (I mean, for a reported $600 million, it’s pretty explicable, but you get what I’m saying.) Much like John Krasinski as Reed Richards in Multiverse of Madness, this could be a cheeky way to bring in another superstar that fans have been dying to see play Tony Stark since the late ’90s: Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise as Major William Cage in a suit of mechanized armor from the 2014 film Edge of Tomorrow.Warner Bros.

That’s right, folks, Ethan Hunt himself. Tom Cruise was connected to an Iron Man movie in development way back in 1998, but it never panned out. The reason why Cruise never built his own armor in a cave with a box of scraps is actually fairly innocuous. As revealed in Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards’ book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, it was a matter of money: “According to [Kevin] Feige, however, Cruise’s asking fee at the time was more than even a profitable studio like Fox was willing to risk on an untested superhero property.”

Of course, that was a very different world than the MCU is today. While Marvel seems to be changing course from hiring A-list stars to anchor its upcoming properties, they probably wouldn’t flinch at shelling out for a cameo to close out the Multiverse Saga with a bit of long-overdue fan service. Better late than never, right? Especially since Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron already tried and failed to get Cruise to appear as an Iron Man variant in that film.

Did THE FANTASTIC FOUR Tease Another Tony Stark Variant?_3Marvel StudiosCould Tom Cruise Actually Appear in the MCU?

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Waldron said, “I love Tom Cruise, and I said to Kevin, Could we get Tom Cruise’s, Iron Man? Unfortunately, as cool as that could’ve been, Mission Impossible seemingly got in the way. I just don’t think it was ever an option, because of availability.”

But now that the Mission: Impossible franchise has had its Final Reckoning, perhaps Cruise could make the time to suit up as Tony Stark and do righteous battle with RDJ’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Secret Wars. Only time–and multiversal timelines–will tell. For now, we’ll just keep frantically theorizing over every crumb and morsel we spot in the background. Because it worked out for Mephisto, so why not Tom Cruise too?

Is Reed Richards Fighting a Classic X-Men Foe in FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS? Not Exactly.

Is Reed Richards Fighting a Classic X-Men Foe in FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS? Not Exactly._1

In the post-credits scene for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, we get a fun moment where we see the FF’s in-universe cartoon show’s opening credits. It’s a tribute to the original Hanna-Barbera Fantastic Four cartoon, which ran from 1967-1968. In those credits, we see the team take on a variety of villains from the pages of Marvel Comics, like Puppeteer, Diablo, Dragon Man, and Red Ghost. However, many fans believed they also saw Mister Fantastic fighting what looked like a classic X-Men adversary, a robotic Sentinel. While we’re excited for the X-Men to join the MCU, it’s actually not a Sentinel robot; it’s an alien Kree Sentry. But they are very, very similar designs. And the same prolific duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created them.

The robotic Sentinels (Left) and the Sentry Sinister (Right) from Marvel Comics.Marvel Comics

Back in the ’60s, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were working together on several series at once. The duo not only produced their opus, Fantastic Four, but also The Mighty Thor, X-Men, Avengers, and others. Although Lee and Kirby co-created Iron Man, Hulk, and Ant-Man together, Kirby only stayed on those comics for a brief time, as his workload was already insane. Regardless, that’s a lot of comics in a relatively short period, and sometimes, they recycled ideas in different titles. Such was the case with the Sentinels in X-Men, and the FF’s Sentry (a totally different Sentry from the recent Thunderbolts* film).

Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) in action in the Fantastic Four: First Steps.Marvel Studios

The Sentinels first appeared in X-Men #14 in 1965. Bigoted scientist Bolivar Trask created these giant, mutant-hunting robots, and they became a thorn in the X-Men’s side for decades. They became the main adversaries in both the comic book and film versions of the story Days of Future Past. Just a few years later, the FF faced off against a similarly designed giant purple robot in 1967’s Fantastic Four #64.

Except this was a robot of alien origin, created by the Kree race. You may remember them as the villains of Captain Marvel with Brie Larson. Known as “the Sentry Sinister,” it was another robot designed to fight superpowered beings. So, Lee and Kirby were kind of copying themselves here. So no, we don’t think this hints at Reed Richards fighting a Sentinel in the immediate future. But if a Fantastic Four sequel emerges, maybe Sentry Sinister makes trouble for the team? Anything is possible in a post-Secret Wars MCU.

The Monster Cereals Get a Jim Henson Puppet Makeover this Spooky Season

For over fifty years now, General Mills’ Monster Cereals have been a staple of American culture. These days, they are only a seasonal offering, coming out exclusively around Halloween time. Now, via Bloody Disgusting, we’ve learned that beginning in August, the cereal boxes for Count Chocula, Franken Berry, and Boo-Berry will feature puppet versions of the mascots. And not just any puppets, these are created by none other than the Jim Henson Company. The trio even appears in their puppet forms in a new commercial, which you can watch down below:

This year’s special Monster Cereals collab between General Mills and the Jim Henson Company also has another an extra fun component. Starting October 7, fans can purchase a limited-edition fuzzy Franken Berry cereal box at Walmart.com. And there will also be Jim Henson Monster Cereals merch galore.

The Henson Shop will feature t-shirts, mugs, and of course, cereal bowls featuring the characters in their new puppet forms. (Honestly, this just makes us want a Jim Henson’s Monster Cereal Halloween Special.) This collab is one of several similar ones that General Mills has done for the Monster Cereals over the years, including one where iconic comic book artist Jim Lee redesigned each character.

The Jim Henson Company Puppet Cereral Monster Boxes.General Mills

In a statement, General Mills’ Mindy Murray said “This is more than a cereal box, it’s a piece of art. We know that fans have an incredible love for Monsters and anticipate their return every year. That’s why we knew the partnership with The Jim Henson Company was the perfect way to deliver surprise and delight – and the first-of-its-kind fuzzy Franken Berry box.”

Sadly, the other Cereal Monsters didn’t make the cut this year. So no Frute Brute, Yummy Mummy, or the latest recruit, Carmella Creeper. Oh well, maybe next year they get to join the party too.
