Laurence Fishburne Joins THE WITCHER Season 4 as Regis

The Witcher lost a whole lot of star power when Henry Cavill departed the show after season three. Now it just got a whole lot back. Netflix announced another big name is joining the magic and monster fantasy series. Laurence Fishburne is joining the cast of The Witcher in season four with a part fans have been waiting to see in live-action. He’ll play the popular book and video game figure Regis.

— The Witcher (@witchernetflix) January 12, 2024

Netflix took to social media to share this exciting news out of the Continent. John Wick star Laurence Fishburne has signed on to play The Witcher‘s Regis. Fans of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and video games know the character well, but the streaming site’s description of him is intentionally sparse to keep his secrets hidden a little while longer. Netflix describes Regis as “a world-wise Barber-surgeon with a mysterious past.”

The character made his debut in 1996’s Baptism of Fire, the third book in Sapkowski’s fantasy series. Since then, the popular Regis has appeared in other entries across the The Witcher franchise.

It’s unclear exactly what Regis’s arrival means for Netflix’s series, but the streamer did share an official synopsis for The Witcher‘s fourth season, which will also mark the debut of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt. A release shares:

After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season 3, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again.

Season four of The Witcher is expected to begin filming this spring, so it will be a while before we see either Hemsworth or Fishburne in the Continent. But having them both there at the same time will restore some of the star power the world of magic and monsters is hoping to replace.

THE EXORCIST Sequel Loses Its 2025 Release Date and Director

The Exorcist: Believer came out in 2023 and it was… a movie. On top of a meh box office run, critics and fans of the franchise alike slammed the film, calling it unimaginative and disappointing, among other things. (Both of those words are nice ways to sum it up, tbh.) Nevertheless, Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures already had plans for The Exorcist: Deceiver, a sequel set to hit theaters in April 2025 with David Gordon Green returning as a director. In a move that is perhaps ordained by ethereal powers, The Exorcist: Deceiver has lost its release date and director in one fell swoop, which isn’t good for this sequel.

Image of two posessed girls with crosses cut into their foreheards staring up with yellow eyes in the exorcist believer trailer sequel release date delayedUniversal Pictures

This news isn’t that shocking, honestly. Prior to The Exorcist: Believer’s release, Green himself noted that he may not return for a sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he will focus his attention on his production of Nutcrackers starring Ben Stiller and season four of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones. I don’t know much about the former but The Righteous Gemstones is an excellent and increasingly well-received series. So his choice to walk away from this film makes a lot of sense. We will have to wait and see who will be brave enough to take on this Excorcist sequel movie. All I can say to them is good luck.

The Exorcist: Deceiver had a theatrical release date of April 18, 2025. But the release date for this Exorcist sequel is no longer happening. In fact, there is no new release date for it at all. The Exorcist: Deceiver is no longer on Universal’s release calendar. The film was in early development stages and now, without a director, there will be some backpedaling. In fact, the studio can backpedal to the point that it no longer exists as a concept. That’s what fans of the franchise truly deserve.

Fan-Favorite Character Argyle Will Not Return in STRANGER THINGS 5

Hold onto your butts, brochachos. Some sad news is coming your way. Despite being an obvious breakout character in Stranger Things 4, everyone’s favorite pineapple-loving, pizza-making, chill vibes bro, Argyle will not be coming back for Stranger Things 5. Argyle was easily the best part of the California storyline in Stranger Things 4. He also added a sense of peace and levity to the otherwise high-strung and dramatic world of Stranger Things. Plus, Argyle stuck by Jonathan and the gang through thick and literally insane. They couldn’t have beat Vecna without him. But sadly, here’s what Argyle’s actor, Eduardo Franco had to say about his return (or lack thereof) to Stranger Things‘ world.

It’s obvious that even the interviewer seems to really believe that Argyle will return in Stranger Things 5 when he poses the question to Franco. The interviewer refers to the below photo that shows the cast of Stranger Things 5 as production begins; Eduardo Franco’s Argyle is, of course, not pictured. In response, fans loudly hoped that this ommission was simply a day one absence.

🚨THIS IS A CODE RED🚨 STRANGER THINGS 5 production has officially begun!!! pic.twitter.com/TFN07WVbRD

— Stranger Things (@Stranger_Things) January 8, 2024

But unfortunately, there is no mystery to the lack of Franco in the image. The question of whether Argyle is in Stranger Things 5 has a clear-cut answer. Eduardo Franco shares of Argyle’s Stranger Things fate, “I appreciate that. It’s nice to hear that there’s some sort of concern or something. But I never got a phone call. So I think that’s it.”

Eduardo Franco not coming back as Argyle in Stranger Things 5Netflix

Hopefully, after the outcry following this interview, Franco will get at least a phone call. Stranger Things is notorious for having characters that only last one season. (And good characters, at that!) But typically, these characters don’t make it to a second outing because they’re dead. But Argyle is certainly still kicking in the Stranger Things universe. We suppose if anyone is chill enough to just meander back home after seeing the Upside Down break into the real world, it’s Argyle. But it feels like after getting attacked by the military, lending his place of work to help make a sensory deprivation tub for Eleven, and driving Jonathan and friends all the way to Hawkins, the least he deserves is to get to say goodbye.

For now, Eduardo Franco and Argyle will not return in Stranger Things 5. But we’ll keep our fingers crossed that changes.

You Are Not Prepared for the Twist in NO WAY UP’s Trailer

I love movie trailers so much that Nothing But Trailers, a show which quite literally shows nothing but movie trailers, is one of my favorites on TV. Good, bad, recut, modern, hilarious, serious, fake, everything in-between? It doesn’t matter, I am obsessed with trailers. And I especially love when one of them surprises me with a twist I could never, ever, ever see coming. Trailers like the one for No Way Up. It’s an upcoming horror movie with a premise that combines an airplane crash survival film with a…. no. No, it’s best if you find out for yourself what else happens.

We officially have an early contender for 2025’s Best Picture. No Way Up starts with a terrifying plane crash that strands a small group of survivors at the bottom of the ocean. It’s a nightmare concept (and far too timely for our liking). Only, this isn’t Alive meets The Abyss. It’s Alive meets Jaws in The Abyss while the crew watches Snakes on a Plane.

Here’s the official synopsis from RLJE Films, one of the production companies behind this beautiful absurdity.

Ava is hoping for a peaceful getaway with friends in the resort town of Cabo, Mexico. But when the plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean and comes to rest on the edge of an underwater ravine, Ava and a handful of survivors are trapped in the airlocked cabin. Against the odds, Ava must fend for herself, contend with bloodthirsty sharks, and find the courage to step up and lead the crash survivors to safety.

A woman, child, and old woman all look shocked and scared with others behind them in No Way UpAltitude Films/RLJE Films

While I am forever grateful for the joy I experienced watching that trailer for the first (and 50th) time, there’s part of me that wishes I only saw this other teaser for the film. It only hints at the ridiculous shark element of the story.

Imagine what it will be like for those who go into the movie completely unaware of what awaits them.

No Way Up comes from director Claudio Fäh, with a script from Andy Mayson. It stars Phyllis Logan, Colm Meaney, Sophie McIntosh, Will Attenborough, Jeremias Amoore, Manuel Pacific, and Grace Nettle. It is “coming soon.”

As much as I want to see it I can wait. I can get by on nothing but watching this one trailer.

How ECHO’s Post-Credits Scene Sets Up DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN

The post-credits scene from Echo sets up a major comic book storyline for Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin. It is one that will most likely play out in Daredevil: Born Again, and possibly, a potential fourth MCU Spider-Man film. The scene shows Fisk in his private plane after his defeat at the hands of Maya Lopez, heading back to New York. He watches a news program talking about how New York City doesn’t have a strong candidate for Mayor, and that the people are looking for “a fighter.” You can practically see the lightbulb go off over Fisk’s head as the Echo post-credits scene ends and the wait for Daredevil: Born Again begins. Clearly, a mayoral run for the Kingpin is happening and it’s a story straight from the comics.

Vincent D'Onofrio as the Kingpin in Hawkeye.Marvel StudiosWilson Fisk: The Mayor of New York City in the Marvel Comics

In the comics, the fallout of the 2017 Secret Empire event led to New York City’s invasion and occupation by Hydra, under the direction of an alternate Steve Rogers. Since Fisk used his wealth to help hapless New Yorkers during the occupation, his criminal past was suddenly swept under the rug, and he used his newfound popularity to run for Mayor. He won, although it was later discovered he fixed the race. What made this story interesting was that Mayor Wilson’s Deputy Mayor was none other than his arch-enemy, Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil. Murdock was constantly trying to catch Fisk in illegal activity, knowing full well his nemesis had not reformed. Matt knew that Wilson Fisk had no one’s best interest at heart but his own.

Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, becomes Mayor of New York City in the Marvel Comics Universe.Marvel Comics

Eventually, Murdock catches Fisk in the act. He discovers that the Kingpin had a meeting with the heads of the organized crime families of the city. Because of this, the city temporarily removed Fisk from office, and New York had a Mayor Murdock for a brief time. But it would not be the last time a superhero was the Mayor of New York. As retaliation towards Murdock, Fisk then institutes a city-wide ban on all masked vigilantes. This turn of events was not good news for another one of the Kingpin’s old adversaries, Spider-Man. But Fisk’s lack of anger management, a significant character trait in both the comics and MCU versions of the character, causes him to publicly lose control. Because of this, Luke Cage, who was running against him, became Mayor of New York City. He instantly repeals Fisk’s anti-superhero laws. The Kingpin then departs New York in disgrace.

Mayor Fisk meets with his constituents in the pages of Marvel Comics.Marvel ComicsMayor Fisk in the MCU with Daredevil: Born Again and Spider-Man 4?

So how much of this will factor into Daredevil: Born Again? Is the “Born Again” of the title actually referring to Fisk, and not Murdock? After all, the original Born Again storyline from the comics was more or less adapted in the original Daredevil Netlfix series. Publicly exposed as a criminal at the end of Daredevil’s third season, Fisk goes to prison. Obviously, as Hawkeye and Echo showed us, he got out of the Big House and continued his criminal ways. Someone with that much wealth and power would likely spend little time in prison.

Spider-Man confronts Mayor Fisk, and hero Luke Cage runs against him for office.Marvel Comics

After the events of the now officially MCU canonized Daredevil, Fisk is a known criminal to the world. But a known criminal gaining political power is hardly that far-fetched. Daredevil: Born Again could end with Wilson Fisk taking mayoral power in New York City. This could lead to a potential Spider-Man 4, with Peter Parker now an illegal vigilante in Manhattan. And everyone wants Mike Colter back as Luke Cage in some form. Maybe he runs against Fisk for Mayor? How cool would that be? There’s a lot of story possibilities here. It will be interesting to see just how the MCU adapts all these plotlines into Daredevil: Born Again and beyond following this big Echo post-credits teaser.

CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM Releases Trailer for Final Season

As the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end.” Much like Supernatural, which ran for 15 seasons, we just thought Curb Your Enthusiasm would go on forever. But after 12 seasons on HBO, and 51 Emmy nominations, the iconic comedy series from Larry David, where he plays himself (sorta/kinda) is coming to an end. HBO has announced that the upcoming season, which debuts in February, will be its last. The final season will consist of 10 episodes. Here’s what Curb Your Enthusiasm star/producer/creator Larry David had to say about the show’s upcoming ending, and it’s in typical Larry David-speak:

As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character. And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 Trailer

We also now have a trailer for the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. You can watch the above to glimpse everything in store for us in season twelve. It may be Larry’s final act, but he’s definitely no older or wiser than before. But hey, he’s doing his best for a person who hates people but had to be around them.

Aptly, the trailer’s description notes, “Don’t be mad he’s leaving, be mad he stayed so long.” That seems about right to us.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Final Season Cast and Release Date

Cast members returning for Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s final season include Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, Cheryl Hines, J.B. Smoove, Richard Lewis, Ted Danson, Vince Vaughn, and Tracey Ullman. Despite this being Curb Your Enthusiasm’s twelfth season, the show actually debuted on HBO way back in 2000. So, if it were an actual person, it would be graduating from college already, which is wild to contemplate. The reason for there only being 12 seasons over that many years is that the show had a five-year break from 2011 to 2017. And there were other smaller breaks in between.

Curb Your Enthusiasm final season key art, showcasing star Larry David.HBO

The final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm debuts on Sunday, February 4. on HBO. It also streams on Max the same day. New episodes will drop every Sunday, with the series finale arriving on April 7. We can’t wait to see how Curb Your Enthusiasm will end.

The Twilight Eyeshadow Palette is probably one of the most anticipated parts of the ColourPop line. Sadly, it doesn’t include “Human Blood Feast” red. But it is described as follows, “Reminiscent of the blue-green hues used throughout the film as well as browns and greens to represent the forest, all aligning with the mood of the iconic first film.” Great. We’ll build the Twilight LEGO set, brush on some of this eyeshadow, and we can live our Twilight dreams. All we need now is more news about the upcoming TV series.

The Twilight ColourPop Palette features shades that include the following gems:

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland Re-Teaming for 28 DAYS LATER Sequel and Possible 28 YEARS LATER Trilogy

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are teaming up again. That might sound like dream come true, but it’s actually something even better: a nightmare. We know because the last time they worked together was 2002’s 28 Days Later. That popular horror film’s influence is still being felt more than two decades later. Now it’s going to be felt even longer. That’s exactly what is bringing them back together. They’re making a sequel to their modern zombie classic. Only it might be more than just a single new entry in the franchise. It could launch a new trilogy.

Cillian Murphy with a beard in hospital pajamas in 28 Days LaterFox Searchlight Pictures

The Hollywood Reporter announced Boyle, who directed 28 Days Later, is making his long-awaited return to the franchise. Even better he is bringing the original film’s writer, Garland, with him. Boyle will direct a new film, 28 Years Later, which will move the story decades past the original entry starring Cillian Murphy.

Rather than just one film, though, THR says the duo has plans to launch a trilogy. Garland would write all three scripts, with the Academy Award-winning Boyle directing the first at least. They will begin shopping the project to studios soon. The pitch will include giving each film its own $75 million budget. That would pay for a whole lot of very fast reanimated corpses.

While this movie would mark the return of Boyle and Garland as a creative team, their zombie film did get a sequel with 2007’s 28 Weeks Later. However, they only served as executive producers on the movie. (Which, for the record, was still very good!) That’s what makes this news so exciting for fans, especially those who remember what a cultural phenomenon 28 Days Later was.

It still is. The modern zombie renaissance owes a lot to Boyle and Garland. With their renewed partnership it is likely going to owe them even more in the future.

THE LAST OF US Season 2 Casts Isabela Merced as Dina

The Last of Us ended its first season on HBO with Joel and Ellie returning to the commune in Colorado. Sure, Joel might have doomed all mankind to save one young girl, but at least they have a place nice to live. For now. Fans of Naughty Dog’s popular video game franchise know new terrors and sadness await the pair in the years to come, and we’ll see all of it come to life when the hit series begins adapting the sequel game in its second season. What else can we expect from the show after a lengthy wait?

Isabela Merced Joins The Last of Us season 2Paramount Pictures/Naughty Dog

Right now, the first new casting announcements for The Last of Us season two are being revealed. First, the series cast its live-action Abby, an incredibly important character in the events to come. Now, The Last of Us has revealed that it has cast Isabela Merced as Dina. Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said of the casting, “Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable… You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family.”

A character description for Dina shares that in the world of the HBO series, she is “a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.” In The Last of Us Part II, Dina is a character that is closely entangled with that of Ellie’s. The pair even (spoilers) share a kiss. So we’re definitely excited to see her come to life in HBO’s The Last of Us season two.

Young Mazino cast as Jess in The Last of Us Season twoNetflix/Naughty Dog

The Last of Us season two has also cast Beef‘s Young Mazino as Jess. Jess is also a character from The Last of Us Part II game. He is described, per Variety, as “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at a terrible cost.” That sounds ominous. Generally speaking, from Jess’s role in The Last of Us Part II, we can assume he and Ellie will build a friendship.

Mazin and Druckmann said of this casting, “Young is one of those rare actors who is immediately undeniable the moment you see him. We’re so lucky to have him, and we can’t wait for the audience to see Young shine in our show.”

Here’s everything we know about The Last of Us‘ second season so far.

The Last of Us Season 2 PlotJoel looks at Ellie, sedated on a surgical table, in The Last of Us finale.Liane Hentscher/HBO

HBO has not yet shared an official synopsis for The Last of Us season 2. We still have some idea what to expect. The franchise’s second video game will provide the source material for the TV series. Showrunner Craig Mazin has said the show will take more than one season to adapt the sequel game, but like with the television series’ first season they are not making a direct adaptation. Fans will once again see some major changes alongside some major moments and stories taken directly from the game. That might very well include a huge—though temporary—change for one character. (We won’t risk spoiling it for those who don’t know what that means.)

One thing that won’t change is the importance of The Last of Us Part II‘s Abby Anderson. She will debut during the second season and play a significant role in Ellie’s story. And like the video game sequel, the HBO series will also feature a time jump.

Behind the Scenes

The Last of Us‘ second season was in pre-production before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes put the show on hold. The first episode had already been written at the time. With both unions finally getting fair deals, the show is now expected to begin filming in Vancouver in early 2024.

Co-creators, writers, and executive producers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are back for season two. Writers Halley Gross (The Last of Us Part II) and Bo Shim worked with Mazin and Druckmann on season two.

The series comes from Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games, and Naughty Dog.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will return as Joel and Ellie. Also expected back is Gabriel Luna. He plays Joel’s younger brother, Tommy. As is Rutina Wesley. She plays Tommy’s wife Maria.

Regarding new casting news, The Last of Us season two has cast Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. Abby is an important character from The Last of Us Part II game.

The Last of Us Season 2’s Release DateA bloater infected zombie from HBO's The Last of Us live action seriesHBO

The Last of Us‘ second season wasn’t expected to premiere until the start of 2025 before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Even with production delayed, HBO is still reportedly targeting a 2025 return for the show. However, there is not yet an official date in place.

ABIGAIL Trailer Pits a Vampire Ballerina Kid Against Unlucky Kidnappers

Children can be absolutely terrifying, especially in horror films. I don’t know about you, but a creepy kid sends shivers down my spine every single time. There’s something truly sinister about twisting the assumed innocence of society’s most vulnerable population into something demonic. That’s what we’re getting with Abigail, an upcoming film about a vampire ballerina who kills her kidnappers in one wild trailer. Yes, you read that sentence correctly. A vampire kid will attack nefarious adults whilst performing some sweet dance moves. Please give it to us now.

Here’s a quick plot synopsis for Abigail to bring the trailer into focus:

After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.

As usual, I am rooting for the supposed villain. Abigail was busy minding her rich girl business, dancing during the day and feasting on blood at night until these blockheads tried to use her for ransom. Now she is doing what vampires do at night to survive: killing living beings for their warm blood. The kidnappers did this to themselves, honestly. And I am glad they did because it is fully entertaining for us. In an ideal world, Abigail and M3GAN would be besties.

It’s also lovely to see Melissa Barrera team up with directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett—better known as Radio Silence—for yet another horror film. Of course, they worked together on the most recent two Scream films. And they were set to come together for Scream VII before Spyglass Media Group made the shocking decision to fire her after she spoke out in support of Palestine in regards to the ongoing Israel-Gaza war. (That’s a whole other post for another time.)

image of a child vampire showing teeth with blood on her face Abigail trailerUniversal Pictures

Abigail also stars the late Angus Cloud, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Giancarlo Eposito, and Kevin Durand alongside Alisha Weir as Abigail. Stephen Shields and Guy Busick penned the script with William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and James Vanderbilt from Project X Entertainment producing. Additional producers include Tripp Vinson and Radio Silence’s Chad Vilella along with executive producers Ron Lynch and Macdara Kelleher.

Abigail hits theaters on April 19.
