HALO Season 2 Trailer Teases the Fall of Reach, Death, and Heroes

Halo season one is one of those shows that didn’t strike gold initially, disappointing fans of the franchise with its offering. But if there’s a season one slump, then perhaps a sophomore surge is in the cards. Halo season two’s trailer certainly makes it look epic. And it’s teasing one of the most iconic events from the games, the fall of Reach. Adapting such a huge part of the Halo games is certainly a good way to get fan attention back on the series. But it means the Paramount+ Halo series really has to get it right. Of course, it’s too early to tell how Halo season two will fare, but its trailer certainly brings epic sci-fi space adventures to the forefront.

Let’s take a look at the trailer:

Aliens, explosions, and true heroes. All this and more are on the table in this Halo season two trailer, and we’re happy to see it. A creepy voice proclaiming itself to be death and an instrument of extinction is also pretty good and highly chilling. It definitely feels like season two will bring fans more about what they love so much about the games. And that’s all anyone can really ask of an adaptation.

Alongside the trailer, Paramount+ has shared an official synopsis for season two of the Halo series. It reads:

In season two, Master Chief John-117 (Pablo Schreiber) leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. In the wake of a shocking event on a desolate planet, John cannot shake the feeling that his war is about to change and risks everything to prove what no one else will believe – that the Covenant is preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation, or its extinction: the Halo.

For those wanting to tune into Halo season two after watching its trailer but maybe haven’t watched season one, Paramount+ has an answer for you. You can catch up on current events with a two-minute Halo season one recap. That feels like just the right amount of time to us.

Season two of Halo will release on February 8. It will stream on Paramount+. Two episodes will become available on the premiere date and a new episode will follow every Thursday through March 21.

STAR TREK 4 Is Still Alive, Will Be ‘Final Chapter’ of Series

For a while there it certainly seemed like we would never get a Star Trek 4. But in February of 2022, another Star Trek film was announced. Since then, though, we haven’t heard very much about the progress of the potential fourth movie. And updates, both good and bad, have been slight. Still, it looks like the fourth Star Trek film remains in the works, even though some recent comments about it were not wholly positive. Here’s everything we know about the progress of a possible Star Trek 4 movie.

The Latest Updates on Star Trek 4

In shocking news from Paramount, there’s a new Star Trek movie (that’s not the fourth Star Trek film) in development. Andor‘s Toby Haynes is set to direct this movie and a script will come from Seth Grahame-Smith. News of this new film also came with an update for Star Trek 4. According to Variety, “the fourth installment of the rebooted ‘Star Trek‘ film series remains in development, with the studio describing it as the ‘final chapter.'” We guess that’s good news. But we’ll wait for something a little more concrete to celebrate properly.

But if Star Trek 4 is still alive, Captain Kirk doesn’t seem to know. Recently, Chris Pine spoke about Star Trek 4, but he didn’t really have much to say. When chatting to Comicbook.com, Pine was asked about any updates about the movie. Pine responded, “Not that I know of.” And when asked if Pine had potentially read any Star Trek 4 scripts, he responded very plainly with “No, of course not.”

While that doesn’t inspire much hope in the status of the movie, Lindsey Anderson Beer, who was initially involved in the writing of the Star Trek 4 script, noted to Collider in September of 2023 that the project was still moving forward. She shared, “It is, it’s still on the tracks. I love that project, and it was another one that I had to hop off of to direct this movie, and that was a hard thing to do. But I love that everybody involved with that project.”

The Initial News About Another Trek Movie

These updates come on the heels of the initial burst of news we received about Star Trek 4. According to Deadline‘s February 2022 article, negotiations were underway with the intent to bring back all of the mainstays in the rebooted franchise. That includes getting Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg to return for Star Trek 4. It was just one of the many major developments to arise out of the ViacomCBS Investor Day call in 2022. J.J. Abrams appeared on the call, confirming the reports that the fourth movie was a go.

WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman was originally on tap to direct Star Trek 4 but has since bowed out of the project. We will wait and see who may replace him. Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires will write the script. According to Deadline, their version is based on a script from Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. So, depending on how it goes, this film might have a lot of credited scribes.

The USS-Enterprise crew from the 2009 rebooted Star Trek filmParamount Pictures

Naturally, other details about Star Trek 4 remained under wraps, including the plot. It’s been a turbulent last several years for Star Trek 4. Back in 2018, plans for another film with the cast stalled, reportedly after Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth, who played George Kirk in the 2009 reboot, walked away over pay disputes. But Hemsworth later told Variety he wasn’t completely on board with the script.

Over the last several years, several people, from Noah Hawley to Quentin Tarantino, have tossed around ideas for a Star Trek film. (The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood writer-director really wanted to make the first R-rated Star Trek project.  Mark L. Smith, who wrote The Revenant, even wrote a draft.)

Still, though, many, including John Cho, held out hope that the fourth film in the rebooted franchise would eventually happen and that the Enterprise crew would get back together—save one very important cast member.

Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov in the first three films, sadly passed away in 2016. Abrams confirmed at the time that the role would not be recast. He told the Toronto Sun, “I would say there’s no replacing him. There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better.” We’d imagine this sentiment remains in place. And we can’t wait to see how they pay tribute to the late actor.

Where We Stand with Star Trek 4 Right Now

For now, Paramount has removed Star Trek 4 from its release schedule. And that’s about all we know for sure. One way or the other, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more Star Trek 4 developments and any glimpse of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and the rest.

ANDOR Director Tackling New STAR TREK Feature Film

It seems Paramount is making yet another attempt at a Star Trek feature film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Toby Haynes, who directed episodes of Andor, will direct this newest Trek film, with screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith providing the script. In terms of plot, all we know is that it will be set decades before the events of J.J. Abram’s 2009 Star Trek, technically the eleventh Trek feature overall, which launched a trilogy. Abrams’ Bad Robot will remain as producers. The original report says a fourth film featuring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and the rest of that cast remains in the works.

The rebooted Enterprise from J.J. Abrams' Star Trek feature film (2009)Paramount Pictures

The last Star Trek feature film to hit theaters was 2016’s Star Trek: Beyond. Whenever this new Trek movie arrives, it will be the longest gap between Star Trek films since the long-running franchise launched with 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The longest gap until now was between 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis, the fourth and final film in the saga of Captain Picard’s crew, and the 2009 reboot. Although Star Trek has been missing in movie theaters all these years, it has been thriving on streaming television, with series like Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, and most recently, Strange New Worlds.

So what could “decades before” mean in regards to this movie’s timeline? The 2009 Star Trek began with the birth of Captain Kirk. It could be a story about the Romulan Wars. The infamous Vulcan offshoot species began a war with Earth, one constantly referenced in almost every Trek series. Its fallout saw the foundation of the Federation Starfleet. That’s a story possibly worth telling, even if it is another prequel to a prequel.

No word yet on when production is meant to commence on this film, much less a release date. Hopefully, it will fare better than those other announced Star Trek movies that never got off the ground.

GAME OF THRONES Creators Share Idea for Their Scrapped STAR WARS Movie

In early 2018 Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss signed on with Lucasfilm. The duo behind HBO’s global phenomenon were going to make a series of Star Wars films. More than a year later they were still on track to shoot in the galaxy far, far away. But that was a long time ago. The studio eventually scrapped every film it had been developing, including the mystery project from Benioff and Weiss. Now we finally know what story they wanted to tell. It’s one Lucasfilm is still planning to bring to the screen. The pair revealed they wanted to tell a story about “The First Jedi,” a concept that sounds a lot like James Mangold’s upcoming Star Wars movie.

D.B. Weiss and David Benioff discussing Game of Thrones.HBO

Benioff and Weiss will soon return to television with Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, another big budget show. Just like with George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, it’s also an adaptation of another complicated book series. It’s based on Chinese author Liu Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy.

Ahead of the show’s release they sat down with The Hollywood Reporter‘s James Hibberd to discuss their journey from the fantasy realm of Westeros to a complex sci-fi world. Along the way they made a stop in another galaxy to discuss the idea behind their unmade Star Wars project.

“We wanted to do The First Jedi,” Benioff told THR. “Basically how the Jedi Order came to be, why it came to be, the first lightsaber…” The two also joked around about how mad they were when Rian Johnson ruined their “obvious title” by naming his film The Last Jedi.

Cover of Tales of the Jedi #0 features two characters reaching for a glowing orb.Marvel

So what happened to the project? Benioff said it was simple: they “had a very specific story idea in mind” and Lucasfilm decided not to make it. That’s a tale as old as time in Hollywood, but in 2023 Lucasfilm announced James Mangold will direct a featured film called Dawn of the Jedi. It will explore the exact same concept and ancient time period Benioff and Weiss hoped to cover.

That doesn’t mean Mangold’s film will be similar to the one the Game of Thrones creators had planned. All it means is their general idea was one Lucasfilm liked. Whether that’s any consolation, or a point of aggravation, to them probably doesn’t matter. Right now all the two likely care about, though, is whether or not people like the sci-fi story they did get to tell with 3 Body Problem.

Mattel’s New BARBIE Doll Set Celebrates ‘Women in Film’

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie turned the iconic toy into a record-setting box office hit. Now the movie has inspired a new collection of the iconic toys. In the best spirit of Barbieland, Mattel is celebrating the professionals who bring cinema to life with a new film collection of dolls. Check out the latest line of Barbie dolls which celebrate “Women in Film.”

Mattel’s newest “Barbie Career Of the Year” set (which we first heard about at Variety) celebrates four different jobs in the film industry. The Women in Film Barbie collection includes figures for a Studio Executive, Director, Cinematographer, and Movie Star. Each toy also comes with a distinct ensemble and appropriate accessories. The Studio Executive Barbie comes with gold sunglasses and a cellphone. Director Barbie carries a film script and wears a viewfinder and headset. Meanwhile, her cinematographer holds a camera and clapboard. And the glamorous, award-winning Movie Star Barbie sports a pearl necklace and holds a golden statue.

We’re not saying Margot Robbie absolutely must show up to the Oscars in that exact same Movie Star Barbie outfit. We’re just saying it will be pretty amazing if she does.

Mattel says this collection is for kids three and up. Obviously a whole lot of adults will the Women in Flim Barbie collection, too. At MattelCreations.com It is available only to Barbie Signature members until January 11 at 5:59am PT, and only while supplies last.  The rest of us can find the collection online at Target and Walmart. The Women in Film Barbies should also arrive on Amazon at some point. The set retails for around $50 and will likely sell out very quickly, so if you hope to bring these dolls home you will want to act fast.

The collection is the latest in the toy company’s “Career of the Year” franchise. Since 2010 it has honored more than 250 professions. Mattel also has an entire line of (mostly sold out) Barbie movie Barbie dolls, as well.

That’s a whole lot of dolls inspired by a movie inspired by those very same dolls. Forget Barbenheimer and Christopher Nolan’s latest movie. This Barbie set is working hard to make Barbception a reality.

THE WALKING DEAD: THE ONES WHO LIVE Trailer Brings Back a Ruthless Rick Grimes

Our time has arrived, Richonne fans! Over five years (in our time) after we witness Michonne break down in tears as she watched Rick’s “death,” we will finally get to witness their journey to find each other. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will debut on February 25 and it cannot get here soon enough. After a few very brief clips that tease Rick and Michonne’s stories, the first full trailer for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is on the internet and all of us are on the floor.

This trailer is excellent. So, so excellent. It essentially dispels the ongoing theory that Rick ended up with amnesia after his accident, and that’s why he didn’t come back to Alexandria. That would be an incredibly difficult task because the CRM is well-fortified, massive, and a force to be reckoned with. We see how massive the organization is in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live trailer. Rick asserts that his WIFE (!!!), daughter, and life are his choices as he slugs away at a work camp. For some reason, everyone calls him Grimes and it makes him seem more threatening. Major General Beale asks him if he wants to kill or die. Rick simply replies “Look in my eyes, sir. You tell me.” We don’t know what Rick’s gone through over the years. But our guy is totally fed up with the BS after over a decade of captivity.

Meanwhile, Michonne is with that mysterious and massive group she fell in line with when she left in The Walking Dead season 10. She still looks like a total boss and is holding onto the phone that has her image sketched into it. There’s a phrase on the screen in Japanese that translates to “believe a little longer. “What a fitting phrase for someone who’s on a quest to find her man. It’s quite the emotional mission for her as she swings her katana and heads right into harm’s way. (How can you not love Danai Gurira?!)

Split image of Rick grimes wearing face shield and CRM jacket, fiery walker, and Michonne wielding katana in the ones who live trailer AMC

Like the recent spinoffs featuring Daryl, Negan, and Maggie, The Ones Who Live takes on a massive, cinematic scope that sets it apart from the The Walking Dead TV series. This story will span through the northeast, from remote places to Rick’s location, which appears to be in Philadelphia at the primary Civic Republic location. There’s burning walkers, violence, a crashing helicopter, and so much chaos. Rick Grimes is the heart of The Walking Dead universe and it feels so good to see him back again in The Ones Who Live trailer. As Michonne says in the trailer, they can make the whole damn world theirs if they want to… and I believe it.

A Guide to THE WALKING DEAD’s Spinoffs

The Walking Dead is over but, as we know, the end of the flagship series that’s been in fans’ hearts for over a decade doesn’t mean this world is done. The show already has had four spinoff series, Fear the Walking Dead, Tales of the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon on TV. The latter, starring Maggie and Negan, is returning for a second season in the future along with Daryl’s spinoff. But, there is another spinoff coming soon that is perhaps the most important one in the universe. Rick and Michonne are coming back together for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Now, we know a little more about Major General Beale, a CRM leader and enemy of our beloved Rick Grimes.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Will Bring Rick and Michonne Back in February 2024

The Walking Dead‘s final panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 gave us the biggest news of all: a Rick Grimes and Michonne series was coming soon. Two years later, we finally know that The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will have a release date of February 25, 2024. Rick and Michonne’s return is oh-so-close after years of waiting. The above clip is short but we get a little commentary from Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln (his Britishness is always jarring, right?). We see some new footage spliced together but it is hard to make sense of it because the clip is so short.

Here’s a breakdown of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live:

This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?

The Walking Dead The Ones Who Live title cardAMC

The name of this Rick and Michonne series should be familiar to fans. Rick first said the phrase “we are the ones who live” back in season five while chatting with Deanna about his group. And, we heard Richonne as well as many other characters say that phrase in The Walking Dead‘s finale episode. So it holds a lot of significance to Rick and Michonne’s individual and collective journeys.

We certainly can’t wait to see Rick and Michonne together again.

There’s also some casting news. Per Deadline, Lucifer alumna Lesley-Ann Brandt will portray Pearl Thorne. Details about that character are currently unknown. We also know that The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will bring back Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis. This isn’t shocking considering she’s the one who took Rick away in that helicopter.

Years ago, she picked up a very wounded Rick Grimes and flew off in a CRM helicopter. And, for those who didn’t watch World Beyond, Jadis indeed traded him to the CRM and started working for the organization. In an Entertainment Weekly interview, actress Pollyanna McIntosh gives more info about what Jadis is up to as well as a new image of her. She still has terrible hair, apparently.

“There will be some of the Jadis that you will recognize from World Beyond,” McIntosh said. “She is in the position of Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes. She is still working with the Civic Republic and the Civic Republic Military. So she’s a committed follower of the CRM, but people are not just their jobs, and the old Jadis that we got to know and who has tried her best but has lost many times is a big driving undercurrent of where she’s coming from.”

Terry O’Quinn and Matt Jeffries will portray Beale and Nat, respectively. In an Entertainment Weekly interview, actor Terry O’Quinn spoke more about his character:

“He is the leader of the Civic Republic military and it operates pretty independently of the Civic Republic government,” the actor said. “So he doesn’t really have to deal with them very much. And he’s held in high esteem. He’s kind of a hero. He has a long military history. He served two terms in Vietnam and went to officer training school. And he’s had to make some decisions in terms of who lives and who dies and how to deal with the mass of walking dead.

He has a big army, but he has about 2,000 of his front liners. They’re his elite corps and they do most of the work, be it dirty or not dirty. He makes decisions based on what he thinks will help his community survive. And it’s completely that he’s trying to make sure that this city survives, so he makes some tough decisions.”

Terry O'Quinn shares intel on his 'Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live' character, and we have the exclusive first photo of Major General Beale. https://t.co/OdQhhq154f

— Entertainment Weekly (@EW) January 9, 2024

During a Walking Dead preview, Gimple warns us that we will see “Red Machete Rick” again. Remember him? He was the one with the brown murder jacket who was a lot unhinged around seasons five and six. This is probably not a good thing but if anyone can bring him back to normal, it is Michonne. We got a glimpse of Rick in The Walking Dead‘s final episode and he looks like hell. But that scene is from the past so he’s presumably in an even worse state at this point. And, there’s also Michonne with her new gear, braving the world alone. Love to see it. Will their show end with an Alexandria reunion? We hope so.

split photo of Rick and Michonne Grimes the walking dead season finale survivorsCurtis Bonds Baker/AMC

So there you have it. A lot is happening in The Walking Dead universe and there will surely be more details about these spinoffs as well as new announcements. The show that won hearts is bowing out but there’s plenty left to explore in the land of the dead, so let’s keep walking right towards these spinoffs.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season Two – “The Book of Carol” Is Coming

We are done with the first season of Daryl Dixon’s adventure, but there is already great news about his show’s second season. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will bring Carol back next season. We don’t know if she will also end up in France or if they will meet in some odd middle. Either way, it will be good to see those besties together again. A new teaser shows that next season will focus a lot on Carol’s journey.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner David Zabel gave fans more insight into season two. He reveals that the Nest is a prominent location in season two and Carol’s previous comment about some mystery person coming back will come into play. “There’s also another clue… this moment in the radio call in episode 5 where she talks about something or someone having come back,” said Zabel. “And the impression we get, and Daryl also gets, is that something’s a little off for her, something’s wrong. And so that’s going to also function into the story for Carol in season 2.”

We cannot wait to see how it all unfolds. In the meantime, we look forward to the return of the great Rick Grimes and Michonne.

THE LAST OF US Season 2 Casts Young Mazino as Jesse

The Last of Us ended its first season on HBO with Joel and Ellie returning to the commune in Colorado. Sure, Joel might have doomed all mankind to save one young girl, but at least they have a place nice to live. For now. Fans of Naughty Dog’s popular video game franchise know new terrors and sadness await the pair in the years to come, and we’ll see all of it come to life when the hit series begins adapting the sequel game in its second season. What else can we expect from the show after a lengthy wait?

Young Mazino cast as Jess in The Last of Us Season twoNetflix/Naughty Dog

Right now, the first new casting announcements for The Last of Us season two are getting revealed. First, the series cast its live-action Abby, an incredibly important character in the events to come. Now, The Last of Us has revealed that it has cast Beef‘s Young Mazino as Jess. Jess is a character from The Last of Us Part II game. He is described, per Variety, as “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at a terrible cost.” That sounds ominous. Generally speaking, from Jess’s role in The Last of Us Part II, we can assume he and Ellie will build a friendship.

Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said of the casting, “Young is one of those rare actors who is immediately undeniable the moment you see him. We’re so lucky to have him, and we can’t wait for the audience to see Young shine in our show.”

Here’s everything we know about The Last of Us‘ second season so far.

The Last of Us Season 2 PlotJoel looks at Ellie, sedated on a surgical table, in The Last of Us finale.Liane Hentscher/HBO

HBO has not yet shared an official synopsis for The Last of Us season 2. We still have some idea what to expect. The franchise’s second video game will provide the source material for the TV series. Showrunner Craig Mazin has said the show will take more than one season to adapt the sequel game, but like with the television series’ first season they are not making a direct adaptation. Fans will once again see some major changes alongside some major moments and stories taken directly from the game. That might very well include a huge—though temporary—change for one character. (We won’t risk spoiling it for those who don’t know what that means.)

One thing that won’t change is the importance of The Last of Us Part II‘s Abby Anderson. She will debut during the second season and play a significant role in Ellie’s story. And like the video game sequel, the HBO series will also feature a time jump.

Behind the Scenes

The Last of Us‘ second season was in pre-production before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes put the show on hold. The first episode had already been written at the time. With both unions finally getting fair deals, the show is now expected to begin filming in Vancouver in early 2024.

Co-creators, writers, and executive producers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are back for season two. Writers Halley Gross (The Last of Us Part II) and Bo Shim worked with Mazin and Druckmann on season two.

The series comes from Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games, and Naughty Dog.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will return as Joel and Ellie. Also expected back is Gabriel Luna. He plays Joel’s younger brother, Tommy. As is Rutina Wesley. She plays Tommy’s wife Maria.

Regarding new casting news, The Last of Us season two has cast Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. Abby is an important character from The Last of Us Part II game.

The Last of Us‘ second season wasn’t expected to premiere until the start of 2025 before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Even with production delayed, HBO is still reportedly targeting a 2025 return for the show. However, there is not yet an official date in place.

DAREDEVIL and Entire Defenders Saga Added to Official MCU Timeline on Disney+

What could mark a property as being MCU-canon official more than ending up on the Disney+ MCU timeline? Very little. That’s why it’s a pretty big deal that all of Netflix’s Marvel shows, also known as the Defenders Saga, are now officially embedded in the MCU canon timeline on Disney+. Yes, if you visit the “Timeline Order” playlist on the Disney+ MCU page, you can find Daredevil next to I am Groot and The Punisher next to Doctor Strange. It all sends a pretty clear message. The Defenders Saga is now officially part of the MCU canon. We guess the MCU has just become nearly 200 hours longer.

Whether the Netflix Marvel shows were actually a part of the MCU’s canon timeline has been debated for a long time. Certain things, such as actors reprising their Netflix roles in Disney+ MCU series, hinted toward yes. But Marvel Studios’ overall caginess about giving a firm answer to the question seemed to point toward no.

Most recently, Defenders footage appeared in an Echo trailer, and a producer seemed to confirm that Daredevil, at least, was a part of the MCU canon. But still, the question of whether all the series in the saga had joined the MCU proper remained. It felt possible that only Daredevil had become MCU canon, or that only certain aspects of the Netflix series would be carried over to the MCU. But the appearances of all the Defenders series on the MCU’s timeline seem definitive. At last, the entire Netflix Marvel Defenders universe has become part of the MCU.

In total, there are six Defenders series in the Marvel Netflix collection. These shows are Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher. If you want to re-do your chronological MCU rewatch now that the canon has expanded, here’s where you should fit in the Defenders shows.

Netflix’s WEDNESDAY: SEASON ONE Coming to Blu-ray and DVD

For those who still, and always will, prefer owning physical media, the streaming era is not exactly a golden era. Some of the best, most popular TV shows and movies only exist on myriad online services. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the dream we’d at least always be able to watch them from the comfort of our couch for a fee has been absolutely shattered by studios removing major parts of their libraries. But things might finally be improving for those who like owning hard copies of their pop culture favorites. Digital releases like The Mandalorian and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story have started getting home releases. Now one of Netflix’s biggest hits is joining them on store shelves. Wednesday‘s first season will soon be available on DVD and Blu-ray.

Director Tim Burton’s Wednesday: Season One starring Jenna Ortega is coming to DVD and Blu-ray this spring via Warner Bros. Discovery. (MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios, produces the show, which streams on Netflix. Modern Hollywood is weird and complicated.) The home release officially goes on sale March 26, 2024, but it’s available for pre-order now. If you decide to wait for its actual release date you can pick up yours online or in-stores from all major retailers. Fitting for a streaming show getting a home release.

The DVD will sell for a suggested price of $24.98 US (Right now it’s as low as $19.99 at some places.) The Blu-ray edition will retail for $29.98 US. Each copy of the eight-episode season will include 480 minutes of content. Both will also come in English, Spanish, and French audio and subtitles.

Meanwhile, work continues at Netflix on Wednesday‘s second season. The streaming site is also reportedly developing an Uncle Fester spinoff with Fred Armisen. Will both of those eventually get home releases, too? That will probably depend on if enough people buy a copy of Wednesday: Season One.

Something tells us there are enough fans of physical media to guarantee there will be. Especially when there are also people afraid of their favorite shows disappearing from streaming sites entirely.
