But which members of the group, both old and new, will show up in the franchise’s next installment? Where will this sequel take us next?
One character that we will see return in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is Slimer. Although details of the ghoulishly green ghost’s role in the movie haven’t yet arrived, we’re very glad to see his smiling face. Honestly, get Slimer his own cooking show, stat.
Here's a much clearer new shot of Slimer's return in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire!

Hidden Valley Ranch and Burt’s Bees Lip Balm Set Tastes Like a Buffalo Wings Basket
Do you love the taste of buffalo wings on your lips but hate eating food? If you said “yes” we have many followup questions. (Many.) But those will have to wait, because right now we have to focus on the fact Hidden Valley and Burt’s Bees just created a product someone like you has apparently been waiting for your whole life. The two companies have combined for a collection of food-flavored lip balms celebrating a football watching staple. This Hidden Valley Ranch and Burt’s Bees lip balm set includes flavors that taste like a basket of spicy buffalo wings.

We’re used to hearing about bizarre Hidden Valley products. The company has released everything from ranch eggnog to a diamond ring made out of ranch dressing. And yet the food company’s latest crossover still caught us by surprise. Burt’s Bees x Hidden Valley Ranch Dippers Lip Balm 4 Pack will both protect and flavor your lips with buffalo wing goodness. This “(very) limited-edition” set, released during the NFL playoffs, celebrates a game day food staple. It’s described as being “like a basket of wings in balm form.” The four flavors include:
Hidden Valley RanchCrunchy CeleryFresh CarrotBuffalo SauceDespite tasting like food, Burt’s Bees points out these balms are not for consumption “obviously.” To that we say Burt’s Bees obviously doesn’t know what football fans are capable of eating.

The initial offering of the $11.99 4-pack quickly sold out. Fortunately you can join a waiting list so you’ll know when this dippers set becomes available once again.
In the meantime, if you want to have an idea what it’s like to use this product, you can always just eat an actual basket of wings before putting normal lip balm on. That is, of course, unless you answered our original question by saying “yes,” you love the taste of buffalo wings but hate eating food. In that case please email us directly so we can ask you those many followups.

Though there’s no official word on how many more Percy Jackson books we’ll get, it seems likely Riordan may publish a complete trilogy about this phase of Percy’s life. Chalice of the Gods sees Percy preparing to head to college. That’s not a simple change for a regular human, much less a demigod. And let’s be real. Percy’s been busy with the gods. His school record is not impeccable. Wrath of the Triple Goddess, which will be the seventh book in the Percy Jackson series. It will follow Percy as he continues his quests for college recommendation letters.

Two things we do know about Wrath of the Triple Goddess thanks to fans at the initial launch event: it will feature Hecate and also Mrs. O’Leary. Mrs. O’ Leary is Percy’s pet hellhound and a very good dog. Riordan also shared more about the story with The Hollywood Reporter. He teased, “It takes place around Halloween, which seemed appropriate to me for Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft and wizardry, who is our primary goddess in this volume… Basically, Percy and the gang have to house sit at Hecate’s house and [take care of] her pets while she is out of town enjoying Halloween. Things obviously take a wrong turn, and then they have to figure out how to fix things.” Well, it wouldn’t be a very good adventure if everything went right. Additionally, you can dive even deeper into the new Percy Jackson book with a blog post from the author.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Wrath of the Triple Goddess will be out on September 24, 2024. It’s now officially available to pre-order.

David F. Sandberg Developing UNTIL DAWN Feature Film
Director David F. Sandberg seems done with the world of superheroes after two Shazam! movies, and is returning to his horror roots with a new film. Via a story in The Hollywood Reporter, we’ve learned that the Swedish director of Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation has signed on to direct a feature film version of Until Dawn, an adaptation of the popular PlayStation horror video game, for Sony Pictures. It’s being developed by Screen Gems, together with PlayStation Productions. All three companies are under the larger Sony umbrella.

Gary Dauberman, the screenwriter behind hit horror franchises It, Annabelle, and The Nun is doing a rewrite on the script originally written by Blair Butler. Butler had previously written wrote Sony’s vampire film, The Invitation. Speaking of vampires, Dauberman also recently finished his adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot, which is sitting on a shelf at Warner Bros. We’re all still waiting for that one. Disney recently announced Dauberman as the one taking the helm of a long-awaited adaptation of the ’90s animated hit, Gargoyles.
Until Dawn is an interactive horror video game that came out back in 2015. The game focuses on eight friends who arrive one day at a remote mountain retreat. There, they come face-to-face with several deadly scenarios, a killer on the loose, and even cannibal wendigos. All the members of the group of friends have to face their biggest fears, or they won’t live to see another day. Until Dawn ended up being a big seller, and critics also loved it. Until Dawn ultimately received several gaming awards nominations. Sony is no doubt hoping they have the same game-to-live-action success that they had with The Last of Us. No word on when the movie goes before the cameras, or any release window. However, we wouldn’t expect it before 2026.

The Original GHOSTBUSTERS Are Back in Action in New FROZEN EMPIRE Image
The original Ghostbusters are back, baby. And this time, we didn’t have to wait decades between appearances on screen. Only three years since Afterlife, they’ll be appearing together again in this year’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Thanks to the latest issue of Empire Magazine, we have some great action shots of the surviving OG Ghostbusters in action. Including Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkmen, Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, and Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore. You can see a new image of Venkman and Zeddemore, proton packs in hand, right here:

In this new iteration of the iconic franchise, Winston has gone from “the new guy” in the classic Ghostbusters film to the man who runs the whole show in 2024. Here’s what he told Empire about his character’s new role in the overall Ghostbusters corporation.
Winston’s a wealthy guy now, and he’s funding research into new technology and the science behind ghostbusting. When the world is threatened… Who you gonna call? He suits up with the rest of them.”

However, it seems Winston doesn’t want Ray to suit up and fight ghosts anymore. This won’t sit well with Ray, who still wants to run around and catch ghosts like it’s 1984. Judging from the cover of the Empire issue, it also seems Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) is suiting up too. She’s way past just answering phones. Given her crush on the late Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), it makes sense she’d put a proton pack on to honor him. The director, Gil Kenan, has said his film is influenced by the weird mythology developed for The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. That show ran for years, and much of the nostalgia for the franchise comes from that animated series. It’s no wonder they’re leaning into it for the new film. That show rocked, so we can’t blame them one bit.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire hits theaters on March 22.

THE WALKING DEAD’s Civic Republic and Civic Republic Military (CRM), Explained
Where’s Rick Grimes? That’s been the looming question since our brave apocalypse leader left The Walking Dead in season 9. For many years, Michonne, Daryl, and the rest of Rick’s family thought he sacrificed his life on a bridge to save their communities. In reality, Rick was found gravely injured by the perpetually shady Jadis and taken off in a helicopter to parts unknown. Of course, we now know that this helicopter belongs to the Civic Republic—or more specifically, the Civic Republic Military (CRM). The Civic Republic and its deadly military force will play a large role in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

There are a lot of fans jumping back into this world simply because of Rick Grimes’ return. Some of them probably haven’t watched much Dead spinoff content, specifically World Beyond. Therefore, they don’t know much about the Civic Republic Military and their evil deeds in The Walking Dead’s universe. So let’s get into this organization, its relationship to the Civic Republic, its goals and key members, and how it will factor into the future.
What Is the Civic Republic and the Civic Republic Military (CRM)?For years, we saw evidence of a community and/or organization with large-scale resources (guns, people, medicine, supplies, etc.) in The Walking Dead TV series. (Neither the Civic Republic nor the CRM are in the comics, btw.) Leading up to Rick’s departure, several mysterious helicopters appeared sporadically throughout the series. We also knew that Jadis and her Scavenger group had connections to a place with the aforementioned perks many years into the apocalypse.
In exchange for giving the organization survivors—who were given either an “A” or “B” grading—Jadis would get supplies for her people. We now know this place was the Civic Republic. Her connection to the group never faded, even after she fell into Rick’s cohort (and in love with Gabriel) and stopped trading with them. Eventually, her loyalty to the Civic Republic led to her taking Rick there and working for the CRM. Her actions did save his life but he was also taken away from his family and friends.
Fear the Walking Dead also gave us a bit of insight via Isabelle. She was a helicopter pilot from the Republic and super fearful of its military because she broke a cardinal rule. The three rings representing this community/military and their looming yet never-fully-explained presence has intrigued fans for years.
It wasn’t until The Walking Dead: World Beyond that we learned more details about the Civic Republic and CRM. The Civic Republic is a Philly-based civilization that makes the Commonwealth look small, with around 250K residents. This is where Rick Grimes has likely been for years under the thumb of the CRM. We will learn even more about the Republic in The Ones Who Live.
It’s not fully clear who started the community. But, there are strong hits that it was a coalition of former politicians or those who had access to firepower, vehicles, and other military resources prior to the apocalypse. The community came together shortly after the outbreak in 2010 in an effort to restabilize the world. In short, the Civic Republic wanted all survivors to see them as the final hope for humanity. At the time, Civic Republic leaders said that the power would return to the people in around ten years. Obviously, this hasn’t happened yet.

Leaders thought the way to maintain this plan was to put the Civic Republic under military rule for an authoritarian-style environment to regain and maintain complete control of its residents. We’re talking tons of secrecy and incredibly tight borders in a place where you do what you are told and you don’t question authority… ever. You know, because that always works to the benefit of a burgeoning democracy.
This is how the Civic Republic Military (CRM), a massive group of well-trained soldiers with ample firepower, was born. It’s primary goal is to be the official military arm and police force for the Civic Republic. Since its inception, the Civic Republic has grown to function much like society did pre-apocalypse, with running water, electricity, schools, medicine, vehicles, and a full-blown economy. There are several wards across the Republic where people live and work various jobs. It’s highly likely that no one leaves or enters unless it is with the approval of those in charge.
Who Controls the Civic Republic and the CRM and Are They Evil?In terms of leadership, there’s a lot of mystery about who is currently in charge at the Civic Republic. The coalition is allegedly led by a group of government officials, likely the same ones who started it all (or their descendants). But it seems the Civic Republic Military holds most of the power. Its lower-level leaders do what they want with little to no repercussions. The leaders at the Civic Republic are largely unaware of most of the CRM’s actions, which includes killing anyone who isn’t agreeable on a whim.
At the top of the CRM is its leader, Major General Beale. He was mentioned (and heard) in World Beyond but will officially appear in The Ones Who Live. We don’t know a lot about him at this point. But we did learn quite a bit about his cohort Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Kublek, a primary antagonist in World Beyond. Years prior, Kublek and Beale began “Project Votus.” In this project, scientists developed a method to slow down—and in some cases nearly stop—reanimation after a bite/scratch using a gas concoction. They used recently bitten folks (“A” people) and those who opposed the CRM as test subjects for their work.

Of course, these scientists are not fully aware of the methods used to obtain subjects. Kublek wanted to create a cure to gain more power instead of actually helping others. And she would eliminate anyone who questioned her methods. World Beyond even takes us to one such “research” facility in Ithaca, NY, which became a major season two locale.
It is where the Bennett sisters believe their father is working and in imminent danger. This is the catalyst that makes them leave their secure Nebraska home for the first time. The facility was burned down and mostly overrun thanks to the Bennett girls and their friends, collectively known as the Endlings. The events there, including the destruction of this lab, eventually led to Kublek’s downfall and imprisonment, thanks to the greed and double crossing of Jadis.

The Civic Republic itself isn’t necessarily evil. It is a community made mostly of people with no power, some of whom are there against their will. It is not even completely clear if some or all of the Civic Republic’s leaders are evil or not.
But the CRM is absolutely an antagonist group in The Walking Dead universe. Jadis is one of those people in her current position as a CRM Warrant Officer. She brought Rick to the Civic Republic as a “B” a.k.a. a strong survivor who could work for the community. This makes sense considering Rick’s survival and leadership skills. Jadis later left Rick behind to move up the CRM’s ranks but we know she will appear in The Ones Who Live.
Does the Civic Republic Have Other Locations in The Walking Dead Universe?
During its early years, the Civic Republic formed an alliance with two other military safe-zone locations—Portland, Oregon and Omaha, Nebraska. The latter includes the satellite community of Campus Colony (formerly Nebraska State University). This is where World Beyond protagonists Iris and Hope Bennett lived before leaving to find their father. Together, they made the Alliance of the Three, which explains the three ring symbol. The Civic Republic would use “bright minds” from these locations to facilitate research and, in return, provide food and supplies. However, Portland and Omaha knew little about the Republic, including its location.
In The Walking Dead: World Beyond, the CRM kills the entire population of Omaha, including Campus Colony, because a “study” said that Omaha and Portland were a strain on resources. Eliminating the other Alliance locales allows them to further renege on their promise to give the power to the people. But it will also cause a major stir among people in the Civic Republic and beyond.
For now, Portland is still active thanks to a forewarning from the Endlings. The community hasn’t been on a show yet but they are presumably gearing up for an uprising. It’s also certain that the Civic Republic has influence in other areas of the United States, some of whom could join this brewing rebellion.
How Will the Civic Republic and CRM Play into The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live? The Civic Republic and CRM will both play a huge role in Rick Grimes’ return to The Walking Dead. He’s at one of the wards in Civic Republic against his will and wants to get back to his family. Based on a trailer, it seems that Rick will attempt to negotiate or power struggle his way out. We see a snippet of a tense one-on-one conversation with Major General Beale. We can only assume Rick’s relationship with Jadis is not good, so we’ll have to see how he got this meeting. Rick is shown killing walkers so he surely doesn’t have a high ranking position in the community. And, he’s not a loyal enough soldier to be a full-fledged member of the CRM like Jadis.
It’s possible that Rick will partner with other rebellious residents and cause an uprising of some sort. He could’ve been planning this for years or perhaps some new information leads him to do so. And, with Portland and others possibly wanting to fight back, The Ones Who Live might take us from coast-to-coast to tell Rick and Michonne’s story.
Speaking of her, she spent time with a large band of survivors before leaving them to search for Rick alone. This group could have a connection to the Civic Republic or CRM. Or, at the very least, someone there probably gave Michonne information about these organizations. There’s a hint of this in the aforementioned trailer when she’s warned to not travel up North. From the impending uprising in Philly to whatever’s happening with Negan in charge in NYC, it is all culminating into something epic. And, at the center of all the drama in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will be the Civic Republic and CRM.

GAME OF THRONES’ Benioff and Weiss Share Unexpected Regret About the Show
Whether you loved or hated how Game of Thrones‘ finished its story there’s no denying it’s ending wasn’t exactly popular. After creating a worldwide phenomenon, co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss didn’t deliver the kind of conclusion many had hoped for. Considering the backlash, do they have any regrets about their journey through Westeros? Actually they do. Only, Benioff and Weiss’ Game of Thrones regret has nothing to do with how they ended their time in the Seven Kingdoms. This “mistake” is not the last one you’d ever guess, though. It’s something you’d never even think of. They wish they’d briefly brought back a minor season one character as the owner of a small tavern.

In a story that will surely make some Game of Thrones fans want to drink, The Hollywood Reporter shared a leftover tidbit from its recent big interview with Benioff and Weiss. While discussing their time in the Realm, Benioff and Weiss mentioned something they’d wish they’d done during their time on Game of Thrones. It had nothing to do with Bran becoming King under absurd circumstances or dragons traveling at warp speed. Nor did they mention Dany “kind of” forgetting about the Iron Fleet. It had to do with Mord, the Eyrie’s crude Sky Cell jailer, whom Tyrion paid off with a sack of gold.
Yes. Mord the Jailer. Here’s a photo of him for those who don’t remember Mord because he only appeared in two Game of Throne episodes.

Mord.
“It was a mistake not bringing Mord the Jailer back into it,” Weiss said. “We always talked about doing it.” Out of thousands of characters and countless story decisions, what exactly could the two showrunners regret about freaking Mord? Not showing what he did with his Lannister gold? Specifically, Benioff and Weiss regret not showing Mord as a tavern owner on Game of Thrones.
“We could have had that actor in the background acting exactly the way he did as a jailer,” said Weiss. “Except now as a small business owner. It was just such an obvious, no-brainer, day-after idea.” We’re not sure we agree with no-brainer, since the idea of Mord handling payroll and putting in ale orders seems far-fetched. But regardless, Benioff said it was “too late” when they realized they could have done that during either a Brienne or Hound scene.

….Dang? I guess your disappointment or apathy about this depends on how you feel about Mord. The Jailer. From Game of Thrones.
Do you have any thoughts on Mord? If you do, please send them to us via raven because we’d love to know why. We’re also willing to hear all the many regrets you have from Benioff and Weiss’s time on Game of Thrones. Just so long as you’re willing to listen to ours.*
*None of them include Mord.

Usher Cosplaying JUJUTSU KAISEN’s Satoru Gojo Sparks Pure Fandom Joy
A lot of our favorite stars are watching us on social media, even when it seems like they are just posting their career highlights and rich vibes. There’s rumors that Beyoncé has secret social media pages and that’s why she knows about (and slyly references) fan memes. While that’s delightful, there’s nothing funnier than when a celebrity leans fully into the social media hoopla. That’s what Usher just did by dressing up as Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen in a recent TikTok video.
Editor’s Note: The following video spoils a plot point in Jujutsu Kaisen.
@usherRIP Gojo, We’re standing next to you…#satorugojo #jujustukaisen #cominghome
♬ Standing Next to You – Usher Remix – Jung Kook & USHER
If you’re a little confused as to why Usher would cosplay Gojo, here’s some background information for you. Even if you don’t watch Jujutsu Kaisen, this anime character has been all over social media for several years, thanks to several viral memes. Fans of the anime really, really love this character. He is, in fact, a Daddy to them. And what better theme song to unofficially crown an anime daddy with than “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home),” which Usher released back in 2010. Fan edits of Gojo with Usher’s song in the background have gotten millions of views.

As we know, Usher is very much so active on social media and knows what fans are saying about him. So, when Gojo fans asked Usher to acknowledge their fave character’s existence—or even perform “Hey Daddy” at the Super Bowl—he naturally made their wish come true in the aforementioned video. We love to see it.

We doubt that Usher will sing a song at the Super Bowl about coming home to, ahem, mess around with a lady who’s been waiting for him all day. That might be too much, even in 2024.

But Usher dressing up like Gojo for a little Jujutsu Kaisen cosplay is more than enough to spark joy for the fandom.
