DUNE: PART TWO First-Look Images Reveal Paul Atreides and Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen Locking Blades
After a very long wait, Dune hit theaters in the fall of 2021 to both rave reviews and big box office. This was despite bowing on HBO Max at the same time as its theatrical debut. But Dune was really just Dune: Part One. The first film only covered the first half of Frank Herbert’s epic 1965 novel. Luckily, the rest of the story is on the way. Dune: Part Two was officially announced on October 26, 2021.

Our latest set of Dune: Part Two first-look images from Total Film tease the epic battles ahead. Among other glimpses of what’s to come, we see Paul Atreides lock blades with the villainous Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. It sure looks like a deadly showdown is about to take place. We also very much enjoy seeing this new image of Zendaya’s Chani looking absolutely fierce.
Here’s everything else we know so far about Dune: Part Two.
Title
The official name of the movie is Dune: Part Two.
Dune: Part Two‘s PlotThe official plot synopsis from Warner Bros. and Legendary for Dune: Part Two reads as follows:
This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
If you’re a fan of Frank Herbert’s Dune, this all sounds like a pretty faithful adaptation of the second half of his novel. And unlike David Lynch’s 1984 version of Dune, this packed second half will now have time to breathe. And who knows? Maybe we’ll see elements of the later Dune novels pop up a wee bit early.
For now, we can enjoy Dune: Part Two‘s first trailer, which highlight a crucial book scene: Paul riding on a sandworm.
The second trailer for the film shows more of Paul and Chani and the Fremen’s fight.
The chief takeaway is that Dune: Part Two is both a love story and a war movie, and we can expect both parts to shine.
Dune: Part Two‘s CastAlmost the entire original cast from Dune is back for Dune: Part Two. At least if their character survived, that is. This includes Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, the “Kwisatz Haderach,” and Zendaya as his Fremen paramour Chani. Javier Bardem also returns as Chani’s father, Fremen leader Stilgar. Paul’s very pregnant mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) also returns for Dune: Part Two. Josh Brolin is back as Paul’s mentor Gurney Halleck, as is Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, the loyal Mentat to House Atreides.

Stellan Skarsgård reprises his role as the sadistic Baron Harkonnen, as does Dave Bautista as the Baron’s loyal lackey and nephew Glossu Rabban. Charlotte Rampling’s character, the Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother, is also slated to return. New cast members include Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan) Austin Butler (Feyd Rautha), and Christopher Walken (Emperor Shadddam IV). They are joined by Léa Seydoux (Lady Margot) and Souheila Yacoub as the Fremen warrior Shishakli.

Of course, certain major characters died in the first film, and are not scheduled to appear in Dune: Part Two. These include Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho and Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides. But there could be surprise flashbacks. So don’t count them all out just yet. We may yet see them on the sands of Arrakis. Most recently, Deadline reported Tim Blake Nelson joined the cast in an unknown role.

Just as he was for Dune, director Denis Villeneuve is back behind the camera for Dune: Part Two. Jon Spaihts wrote the script for the second chapter of the story. Hans Zimmer also returned to score the sequel.
Dune: Part Two‘s Release DateDune: Part Two hits theaters on March 1, 2024. It will release in IMAX 70 mm as well as in IMAX and normal theatrical formats.

DESPICABLE ME 4 Trailer Takes the Gru Family and Minions on the Run
The Despicable Me franchise isn’t ending anytime soon …and I really love that for us. The journey of Gru, a former supervillain who is now against villany and for fatherhood, and his dedicated legion of Minions has been so delightful. We love yellow beings with big eyes who don’t talk yet say so much. Believe it or not, Gru is back for another film where he meets his biggest challenge of all: a kid who acts just like him. (As a parent, I deal with this challenge every day of my life. I feel ya pain, sir!) The trailer for Despicable Me 4 delivers Gru Jr. goodness, an actual new villain, and Minions mayhem.
Ooooh here HE comes! Who is he? It is Maxime Le Mal (voiced by Will Ferrell), who is out of prison and ready for revenge. This leads Gru (Steve Carrell), his lady Valentina (Sofia Vergara), and their three children to go on the run. While we previously met their daughters Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Madison Polan), there’s a new member of the family.
Gru Jr. is adorable and no one’s sweet child, which adds to the constant hijinks. And, of course, there’s plenty of Minion fun in this Despicable Me 4 trailer. I especially love the end when they explode pink, well, stuff into a vending machine with a Minion inside of it. Does it make sense? No. Is it cute? It is, indeed. People are loving this clip online and that’s not shocking. Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022) was a huge hit, earning nearly $1 billion dollars worldwide.

It looks like Illumination is aiming for yet another blockbuster summer. Despicable Me 4 is hitting theaters on July 3 to make things just a little more despicable in the best way.

Diablo Cody Wants to Write a JENNIFER’S BODY Sequel
After screenwriter Diablo Cody won the Oscar for her work on Juno, it surprised many when her next film was a feminist, supernatural horror film starring Megan Fox called Jennifer’s Body. Although a box office bomb upon release, it’s now a true cult classic. And according to Cody, it’s definitely a movie she’d like to see a sequel to. While promoting her upcoming film Lisa Frankenstein, directed by Zelda Williams, she told Bloody-Disgusting that she really wants to make a Jennifer’s Body follow-up. Here’s what she had to say:
YES! I wanna do a sequel. I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find… I need to partner with people who believe it in as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”

As with most cult films, critics mostly eviscerated it upon release. But over the last 15 years, the audience for Jennifer’s Body has only grown and grown. These days, Cody says, “At first, I was excited about it obviously, but I was also a little bit salty. Because I remember thinking, well where was this audience when the movie came out? It was a critical, commercial failure. I was pretty humiliated to be perfectly honest with you. It was a rough experience having that movie come out. It was rough for me, it was rough for Megan [Fox]… [then] people started suddenly talking about it like it was a good movie, which I had thought all along.”
Could a Jennifer’s Body sequel actually happen? We don’t see why not, as it now has a built-in audience. Although Cody is following up Lisa Frankenstein with another horror movie first, we hope she gets back to the world of Jennifer’s Body at some point.

Anakin and Obi-Wan Rock Out in 2004 Animated STAR WARS Franz Ferdinand Music Video
If you could travel back a long time ago to a galaxy far, far away, what would you change about the past? Would you make sure the Jedi freed Shmi Skywalker from slavery? Stop Palpatine before he ever gained power? Or maybe kill him before his apprentice could join him as Darth Vader? Those are all good answers about how to alter Star Wars history. But instead what if you did something you never would have thought of? What if you convinced Anakin, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Mace Windu to start a rock & roll band? That’s what we might do after seeing this absurd blast from the past. Those Jedi are the stars of a 2004 animated music video for Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out.”
Video Mods has re-shared a two-decades-old video that originally appeared at Star Wars‘ official website 20 years ago. Rather than relying on what it called “problematic” mocap technology at the time, eight employees made it (along with three other videos) in just three weeks. They did that using assets from (as it was known then) LucasArts’ video game Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
That’s why it features Anakin and his Master as they looked in the trilogy’s final film. Of course, we don’t remember Obi-Wan rocking out in that film while his Padawan sang lead, but we’ll rewatch it to double check. (We’re almost positive Mace Windu was in a band in Attack of the Clones, though.)

Video Mods says it animated this whole video “as a single performance with eight different cameras.” That allowed them to render everything “like a live action shoot,” which an editor then cut into the final product. To pull it all off, the company used Maya, Fusion, Lightwave, and Final Cut Pro software.
Plus we imagine they used the Force. How else could they get dancers to work with a guy who turned into Darth Vader while shooting?

Saturn Awards Will Honor Keanu Reeves with First-Ever Lance Reddick Legacy Award
For over 50 years the Saturn Awards have celebrated movies and TV that nerds like us care about. The awards honor the kind of stories that the Motion Picture or Television Academies often overlook. This year’s awards will be a bit different, because it’s dedicated to the memory of the former Saturn Awards host, the late Lance Reddick. To honor his memory, the Saturn Awards will present the first-ever Lance Reddick Legacy Award. And it will go to his longtime co-star and friend from the John Wick franchise, Keanu Reeves.
Actor Titus Welliver will present the award to Reeves at the upcoming 51st Annual Saturn Awards. This year’s event features Joel McHale as its host. Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror President Robert Holguin released this statement:
This award symbolizes and celebrates not only a performer’s talent, but their character; someone who’s a true goodwill ambassador in the industry. From Science Fiction (The Matrix franchise), Fantasy (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure/Constantine) & Horror (Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula/The Devil’s Advocate), Keanu has done it all — not to mention Speed and Point Break. Keanu is not just a Hollywood icon but also a shining example of humility and gratitude. Throughout his incredible career, he has never forgotten the support of his fans and the filmmakers who’ve supported him all these years. We’re thrilled to celebrate Lance’s memory with a dear friend and a genre icon.

Keanu Reeves is one of the most humble and kind actors in Hollywood, according to everyone who has ever worked with him. Given his iconic status in so many beloved genre franchises, we’re glad the first-ever award honoring Lance Reddick is going to him. For those wanting to see Reeves get the Lance Reddick Legacy Award, ElectricNOW will live stream the event on February 4, at 4 PM Pacific time.

DISNEY LORCANA: INTO THE INKLANDS Story Trailer Reveals ATLANTIS Characters
Disney Lorcana isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The Disney animation-themed trading card game from Ravensburger just saw the release of its second set, Rise of the Floodborn. Even though we know the gaming company is releasing new cards quarterly, it’s still hard to believe it’s already time to learn about Disney Lorcana‘s third set. Yet here we are. The third installment is called Disney Lorcana: Into the Inklands. The 200+ card set introduces a new type of card, new Disney characters, Lorcana lore, and more.

I love the adventurous look of the Into the Inklands logo. The name is a clue to the new type of cards, too: location cards. These will feature Disney story settings and offer players special abilities and interactions. Settings include Motonui from Moana and the Jolly Roger from Peter Pan. Some locations give bonuses when characters visit them, while other location cards provide benefits just by being in play.
Additionally, Lorcana‘s third set will debut new in-game mini-stories and expand featured characters. This comes through narrative on the cards as stories unfold through quotes and descriptive text. Ravensburger says this will allow players to discover even more links between cards.

As for those new characters, Into the Inklands will have several. The installment brings Pluto, Perdita from 101 Dalmatians, Scrooge McDuck from DuckTales, Kit Cloudkicker from TaleSpin, and Jim Hawkins and the RLS Legacy crew from Treasure Planet. The set will also introduce Atlantis: The Lost Empire. That’s a hefty dose of ’90s and early ’00s Disney nostalgia, and we’re here for it.
The Lorcana lore continues in Into the Inklands, too. A synopsis states:
The Disney Lorcana TCG set Into the Inklands continues the story of the Illumineers who were mysteriously transported to the realm of Lorcana (The First Chapter). After accidentally unleashing a flood of mixed ink (Rise of the Floodborn) that scattered precious lore throughout the realm, Illumineers are now tasked with finding the lore and returning it to the Hall of Lorcana. However, their quest may be more treacherous than they realize, as an ominous shadow storm has been spotted gathering at the edges of Lorcana, adding urgency and mystery to the path ahead.
A story trailer for Into the Inklands introduces Audrey Ramirez from Atlantis, as well as Dreamborn glimmers for Prince Eric and Tinker Bell. It teases a mysterious shadow taking King Triton’s trident.
The Into the Inklands release will include the following items:
Amber and Emerald Starter Deck ($16.99)Sapphire and Ruby Starter Deck ($16.99)Booster packs ($5.99)Illumineers Trove ($49.99)Gift Set ($29.99)Play accessories: Card Sleeves, Deck Boxes, Card Portfolios, and PlaymatsDisney Lorcana: Into the Inklands will first release at local game stores on February 23, 2024. Mass market retailers will get the third set on March 8, 2024. Hopefully the inventory issues that have plagued Lorcana so far will smooth out with Into the Inklands.

Live-Action ATLA Expands Cartoon Series’ Timeline to Accommodate for a Season 2 Time Jump
If you’re an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan, you probably know that everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. But when it comes to this franchise, everything really changed when Netflix announced it would be making a live-action series adaptation of the beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. A live-action version of Avatar was attempted once before, but it did not go too well. Hopefully, though, this time around, we’ll all see better results. We’re crossing our fingers that this live-action outing will go well for Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, and the rest of the Gaang. It’s what the characters and the fans deserve.

Although, for now, no season two has been announced for Avatar: The Last Airbender, showrunner Albert Kim has put season one together in a way that accommodates the real-world constraints of a multi-season show. Kim notes, “All three seasons of the animated series essentially take place in the course of one calendar year… There was no way we could do that. So we had to design this first season, especially, to accommodate the possibility of some time elapsing between the first and the second season.”
There are just some things only animation can account for, that’s for sure. In the cartoon, the threat of Sozin’s comet, which will give the Firebenders unthinkable strength when it arrives at a specific time, is what drives the story to take place in such a short amount of time. Kim notes, “We removed that particular ticking clock from our show for now because we couldn’t know exactly how old our actors would be for the subsequent seasons. We definitely thought about that going into season 1 so that we can accommodate for puberty, adolescence, time passing — all of those fun things that happen to real-life human beings that don’t happen to animated characters.” It’s definitely a wise choice, in this case.
Here’s everything we know about Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender.
TitleLike the original animated series, Netflix’s adaptation will also be called Avatar: The Last Airbender.

It seems likely, given casting choices and other teases, that the plot of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s first season will follow the animated series’ Book One: Water, otherwise known as its first season. That means we’ll see Katara and Sokka discover Aang frozen in ice and follow their journey together as Aang learns water-bending and everyone learns about friendship. Prince Zuko will, of course, be grumpily chasing the trio down. The season will most likely culminate with an epic battle at the North Pole.
Officially, the synopsis for Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender only shares the broad strokes of what we’d expect from this live-action adaptation. It reads:
The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope.
But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang, a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai. But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.

Albert Kim acts as showrunner, executive producer, and writer on Avatar: The Last Airbender. Jabbar Raisani and Jet Wilkinson are set to direct.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Live-Action Series’ CastNetflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation is slated to have quite the cast. Leading the series are, of course, our heroes (and anti-hero) Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko. Gordon Cormier will play the Avatar, Aang. Kiawentiio will take on the occasionally bossy, though always kind, Katara. Ian Ousley will play the goofy yet good-hearted and heroic Sokka. And Dallas Liu will star as Prince Zuko, the exiled prince of the Fire Nation who has an obsession with honor and also a lot to learn.

Joining the core four are Daniel Dae Kim as the villain of our tale, Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as the wise Uncle Iroh, and Elizabeth Yu as the devlish Princess Azula.

Dev Patel Seeks Vengeance in MONKEY MAN’s Action-Packed First Trailer
Pop culture is full of stories about the self-destructive nature of revenge. Those blinded by vengeance often bring ruin upon themselves. That’s a good guiding lesson for life, yes, but movies are a form of escapism. Sometimes it’s fun to sit back and watch a badass fictional character beat up those who harmed them. And that’s the kind of fun the first trailer for Dev Patel’s Monkey Man promises. It follows a grieving son with some serious fighting skills who sets out to bring down some very bad people.
The exciting new trailer for Monkey Man, from first-time director and star Dev Patel (The Green Knight, Slumdog Millionaire), is part Batman, Robin Hood, and John Wick. Patel’s Kid has plenty of motivation in his quest for vengeance. The people he hopes to bring down not only killed his mom, they thrive by oppressing the people of India. At least they will until a hero rises to stop them. Here’s the official synopsis for Monkey Man to bring the trailer into focus:
Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.

The movie, which arrives in theaters April 5, also stars: Sharlto Copley (District 9), Sobhita Dhulipala (Made in Heaven), Pitobash (Million Dollar Arm), Vipin Sharma (Hotel Mumbai), Ashwini Kalsekar (Ek Tha Hero), Adithi Kalkunte (Hotel Mumbai), Sikandar Kher (Aarya), and Makarand Deshpande (RRR). Jordan Peele also serves as a producer via his studio Monkeypaw Productions. Among those also producing alongside him are John Wick franchise alums Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.
That’s a lot of revenge fantasy experts on hand, which is good for lots of reasons. They know vengeance is best enjoyed on the big screen. A fun night at the theater watching a revenge tale won’t destroy you personally.

KNIVES OUT 3 Will Reportedly Begin Filming This Year
Who doesn’t miss Detective Benoit Blanc? We know we can’t wait to see more of him, his accent, his outfits, and his uncanny knack to solve a mystery. Knives Out is just one of those movie franchises that universally works. In a room full of folks with disparate tastes, a Knives Out movie will often please the lot. And so, after Knives Out 2, a.k.a. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, we felt excited to hear there would be more Knives Out mysteries on the way. Knives Out 3 is still in its early stages, but a new report from Deadline cites that it will begin filming this year.

Deadline notes, “T-Street is gearing up to make the third installment of the Benoit Blanc franchise for Netflix later this year. The yet to be titled film will again be written and directed by [Rian] Johnson, who helmed the franchise predecessors Knives Out and Glass Onion. Daniel Craig will return in the lead role of the sleuth.”
Well, we couldn’t have Knives Out 3 without Daniel Craig or Rian Johnson. In October 2023, Johnson commented about the progress of the third movie to The Wrap. He shared, “It’s coming along. I obviously couldn’t work during the strike, and now that it’s over, I’m diving in full force, and so it’s coming along. I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing.”

We have to wonder if he’s got a cast for Knives Out 3 in his head as well. While we wait for “later this year” to arrive, we have plenty of time to speculate on who we might want to see appear. We’ve seen some fans out there calling loudly for Ayo Edebiri, and we wholeheartedly co-sign on that choice. Others note that Daniel Radcliffe would be a great fit. We also have to agree there. In the meantime, we guess we’ll just have to wait for the mysteries of Knives Out 3 to unfold in their own time.

Lewis Pullman Could Replace Steven Yeun as Sentry in Marvel’s THUNDERBOLTS Movie
The Thunderbolts have been a long-awaited MCU team. The quasi-villainous anti-hero/misfit gang is a staple of the Marvel Comics world, and many heroes have been a part of it at some time or another. As the MCU slowly gathered the right members, fans speculated harder and harder that the Thunderbolts were coming. And finally, in 2022, Marvel Studios made the big announcement—the MCU’s Thunderbolts movie was finally on the way.

Although it was never confirmed, it was highly reported and corroborated by reliable sources, such as The Walking Dead‘s creator, that Steven Yeun had come aboard the MCU’s Thunderbolts movie. The actor appeared set to play the role of Marvel antihero Sentry. However, due to apparent scheduling issues, Yeun will no longer be a star in Thunderbolts. The actor himself confirmed as much.
But now the question arises: who will play Sentry in the Thunderbolts? Well, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Top Gun: Maverick‘s Lewis Pullman is currently a top choice for the MCU role. Although, again, this news is unconfirmed by official sources.

Here’s everything we know so far about Thunderbolts.

Sebastian Stan will again take on the role of Bucky Barnes (a.k.a Winter Soldier). Wyatt Russell will appear as US Agent. And Olga Kurylenko will appear as Taskmaster.
