Everything We Know About STAR TREK: SECTION 31
Cameras have begun rolling on Star Trek: Section 31, starring Oscar Winner Michelle Yeoh. She will reprise the role of Emperor Philippa Georgiou in the film, a character introduced in Star Trek: Discovery season one. Yeoh first played Captain Philippa Georgiou in the first part of Discovery, a decorated Starfleet Captain who died in the pilot episode. She then portrayed the version of that character from the darker Mirror Universe for much longer. Now stranded in the mainline Star Trek universe, she began working for the mysterious Federation spy cabal Section 31. Here’s everything we know about Star Trek: Section 31 so far.

Although many refer to it as simply Section 31, the proper title is, of course, Star Trek: Section 31.
Star Trek: Section 31’s Plot
Although originally planned as a series, it has since morphed into a film for the Paramount+ streaming service. The plot for Section 31 is unknown at this time. All we know is that it’s likely set in the same timeframe as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This would be some time after Discovery season two, and still several years before the events of the original series. At the end of Discovery season two, Phillipa Georgiou was sent to the far future with the Discovery crew. Not long after, the powerful Guardian of Forever sent her back to when she left. This leaves room for her Section 31 story to take place in that time period. The official description is as follows” “Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, [Georgiou] also must face the sins of her past.”

The franchise introduced Section 31 as a concept in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. They were an organization so secret, they were not an official part of the Federation or Starfleet. However, they acted on their behalf. Many in Starfleet saw Section 31 and their covert and often immoral ways as against what the Federation stood for. They attempted genocide on the shapeshifting Changeling race behind the Dominion during the later seasons of DS9. In Discovery, we learn they were more of an official part of Starfleet a century before the events of DS9. Perhaps the Section 31 movie will reconcile how this covert group went from a known part of Federation intelligence to something of a galactic myth a century later.
Behind-The-ScenesOlatunde Osunsanmi will direct and executive produce the film, with Craig Sweeny serving as writer and executive producer. Alex Kurtzman and his production company Secret Hideout, which is behind modern Star Trek shows like Discovery, Picard, and Strange New Worlds, is also behind Section 31.
Star Trek: Section 31’s Cast
Aside from Michelle Yeoh, also in the cast are Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez, and James Hiroyuki Liao. No word yet on any known Star Trek franchise actors from Discovery or Strange New Worlds, but we expect to see at least some of them.
Star Trek: Section 31 Release DateThere’s no release date yet for Star Trek: Section 31, but we expect it no earlier than late 2025.

Carl Weathers, ROCKY and MANDLORIAN Star, Has Passed Away at 76
Carl Weathers has had a storied career in Hollywood, spanning 50 years. The actor known for a number of impactful roles, from Apollo Creed in Rocky to Greef Karga in The Mandalorian, has passed away at the age of 76.

His family shared on Friday that Carl Weathers died on Thursday, Feburary 1. In a statement, the family shared:
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024… Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.
Born on January 14, 1948 in New Orleans, Weathers’ career started on the field. He played football in college and went on to play for the Raiders in 1970. Weathers retired from playing football in 1974 and turned his focus to acting. He had a number of roles prior to Rocky, but playing Apollo Creed was a break-out part for Weathers.

Over the decades, Weathers has appeared in dozens of films and television series: Predator, Happy Gilmore, Toy Story 4, Arrested Development—the list goes on. Most recently he had a recurring role in The Mandalorian as Magistrate Greef Karga. That role lead to a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. Weathers frequently stepped behind the scenes too, directing a number of episodes of TV, including two episodes of The Mandalorian.
His talents will be missed. We wish his loved ones the very best.

Catherine O’Hara Will Be in THE LAST OF US Season 2 Role
The Last of Us ended its first season on HBO with Joel and Ellie returning to the commune in Colorado. Sure, Joel might have doomed all mankind to save one young girl, but at least they have a place nice to live. For now. Fans of Naughty Dog’s popular video game franchise know new terrors and sadness await the pair in the years to come, and we’ll see all of it come to life when the hit series begins adapting the sequel game in its second season. What else can we expect from the show after a lengthy wait?
Well, we might see beloved actress Catherine O’Hara. O’Hara confirmed rumors she was in talks for a The Last of Us season two role on Watch What Happens Live. Max then announced she’d appear in the series. We don’t have any details about her character, but we already can’t wait.
Here’s everything we know about The Last of Us‘ second season so far.
The Last of Us Season 2 Plot
HBO has not yet shared an official synopsis for The Last of Us season two. We still have some idea what to expect. The franchise’s second video game will provide the source material for the TV series. Showrunner Craig Mazin has said the show will take more than one season to adapt the sequel game, but like with the television series’ first season they are not making a direct adaptation. Fans will once again see some major changes alongside some major moments and stories taken directly from the game. That might very well include a huge—though temporary—change for one character. (We won’t risk spoiling it for those who don’t know what that means.)
One thing that won’t change is the importance of The Last of Us Part II‘s Abby Anderson. She will debut during the second season and play a significant role in Ellie’s story. And like the video game sequel, the HBO series will also feature a time jump.
Behind the ScenesThe Last of Us‘ second season was in pre-production before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes put the show on hold. The first episode had already been written at the time. With both unions finally getting fair deals, the show is now expected to begin filming in Vancouver in early 2024.
Co-creators, writers, and executive producers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are back for season two. Writers Halley Gross (The Last of Us Part II) and Bo Shim worked with Mazin and Druckmann on season two. Deadline additionally reports that The Last of Us season two has set its slate of directors, both new and old. These include four new directors: Succession‘s Mark Mylod, Perry Mason‘s Nina Lopez-Corrado, Watchmen‘s Stephen Williams, and Loki‘s Kate Herron. They join returning director Peter Hoar, who directed the incredible season one episode “Long, Long Time,” and the show’s creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
The series comes from Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games, and Naughty Dog.
The Last of Us Season 2’s Cast
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will return as Joel and Ellie. Also expected back is Gabriel Luna. He plays Joel’s younger brother, Tommy. As is Rutina Wesley. She plays Tommy’s wife Maria.

Regarding new casting news, The Last of Us season two has cast Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. Abby is an important character from The Last of Us Part II game.

Additionally, Isabela Merced has joined the season as Abby, who also hails from the second The Last of Us game. Abby is described as “a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.”

Finally, The Last of Us season two has also cast Beef‘s Young Mazino as Jess. Jess is described, per Variety, as “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at a terrible cost.” That sounds ominous. Generally speaking, from Jess’s role in The Last of Us Part II, we can assume he and Ellie will build a friendship.
The Last of Us Season 2’s Release Date
The Last of Us‘ second season wasn’t expected to premiere until the start of 2025 before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Even with production delayed, HBO is still reportedly targeting a 2025 return for the show. However, there is not yet an official date in place.

SUITS Spinoff Gets Pilot Order at NBC, Series Heads to LA
Suits seems to be the topic of many recent conversations, even though it has been off the air for quite some time. That fact hasn’t stopped the USA show from dominating streaming charts, though. Suits has landed at number one on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 more than any other series. So, it’s no surprise that networks have taken note. And now, NBC has greenlighted a pilot for the Suits spinoff series Suits: LA. We’ll see if lightning can strike twice.

Here’s what Variety had to share about the Suits spinoff series. It notes that Suits: LA will follow Ted Black “a former federal prosecutor from New York, who has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles.” And further adds that the spinoff logline reveals. “His [Ted Black’s] firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.”
As of now, there is no cast information available. Could Meghan Markle return in this Suits offshoot? That would really be something. We’d also love to see more from Gina Torres. We’ll have to wait and see. What we do know is that this spinoff is in good hands, with Suits’ original creator returning to write and executive produce.
It’s an interesting time for the once-dominant USA set. Monk got a revival movie in late 2023, Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie. And now, Suits will return to the courtroom in this spinoff. Personally, we have to vote for a White Collar renaissance next. The time has come to let Neal, Peter, and Elizabeth live happily ever after together. In the meanwhile, we’ll keep our eye peeled for more from Suits: LA.

Jerry Seinfeld’s Pop-Tarts Movie Shares First Look and Release Date
Jerry Seinfeld is going to direct, produce, and star in a Netflix movie about the creation of Pop-Tarts. A sentence so weird you might need to re-read it a few times to fully process what’s happening. But no matter how many times you ask, “What’s the deal with this movie?” we promise Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story is really happening. And now, we have our first look at the movie.
It certainly seems like it will be one hilarious treat that’s all about everyone’s favorite dessert for breakfast. And it will even include… explosions? We guess we’ll have to wait to learn more about what it’s all about. But at least we know how long we’ll have to wait now. Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story will release on May 3.
In the meanwhile, Netflix also released a first-look image of the movie, giving us a good look at Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story‘s cast.

The Pop-Tarts movie has assembled a worthy line-up of stars to bring its sugary story to life. Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, and James Marsden will bring the story to life. Will they play Pop-Tarts? Will they make Pop-Tarts? Nobody knows, but we are all enchanted and yet terrified at the prospect.
The logline for the movie reads “Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar and menacing milkmen.” Is this a true story? We have our doubts.
Unfrosted is based on one of Seinfeld’s old stand-up jokes about the invention of Pop-Tarts. The routine details how the sweet breakfast treat completely rocked his world as a kid. This particular bit has clearly taken up a lot of his focus over the years.
He explained the creative process and history of his Pop-Tart bit in 2012 for a video at The New York Times. It started with the first time he thought of the idea, which took a couple of years to complete. He said that’s much longer than his jokes typically take to finish.
“I know you think people are going to be interested in this. But they’re not.” Considering he is now making a movie based on this joke, either he never believed that, or he realized people really do care. Don’t expect a serious examination of the food industry though. Unfrosted sounds like it will be just as silly as the stand-up routine that inspired it. Seinfeld described the film to Deadline as a “giant, crazy comedy movie.”
When you think of it like that, this Pop-Tarts movie doesn’t sound that weird. But you might want to re-read this story a couple of times just to make sure.

Jim Carrey Will Return as Dr. Robotnik in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3
The Sonic movie universe is something that I never saw coming. Well, not since I dreamed about it in the ‘90s as a lover of the speedster’s video games and TV show. But that is what we got when the first Sonic film sped into theaters at the beginning of 2020. You know, back in the olden days before, well, all of this stuff happened. Since then, we’ve gotten the gift of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with famous characters like Tails and Knuckles (the best angry sweetie ever) coming into the fold. Better yet, we got news back in February that a third Sonic the Hedgehog movie and a Knuckles series were coming soon. Now, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 officially has casting information, teaser trailers, and a release date.
Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik Returns In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Other Cast Announced
It looks like it’s not the end for Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik. Although it seemed like Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik tumbled to his death at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a post-credits scene teased the villain’s body had not been found. And this, of course, sets up the news, which we saw on Variety, that Jim Carrey will return as Doctor Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. We assume that Robotnik’s mustache survived the fall, too, but if not, we can’t wait to see what manner of facial hair the villain will have in the third Sonic movie.

In addition to the announcement about Carrey’s return, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 confirmed other new and returning cast members. Returning to the franchise are Ben Schwartz (Voice of Sonic), Lee Majdoub (Agent Stone), Idris Elba (Voice of Knuckles), Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Voice of Tails), Tom Butler (Commander Walters), James Marsden (Tom Wachowski), and Tika Sumpter (Maddie Wachowski).
New cast for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 include Krysten Ritter, Alyla Browne, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, Jorma Taccone. It sounds like it will be an exciting film, for sure.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Teasers Reveal that Shadow Is ComingNow, what will happen in the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie? We don’t know any firm details right now. But the movie’s first teasers put Shadow front and center. He and Sonic even share the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 logo.

An early look at the movie even gave us a glimpse of Shadow’s iconic shoes.

Only in theatres December 20, 2024 pic.twitter.com/BUIlurNIC0
The end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 left us with the Wachowskis taking in even more furry and powerful creatures. Tails and Knuckles are part of the family alongside Sonic, and they are guarding the Master Emerald. But the end of the film hinted at a new set of troubles. We find out that Shadow the Hedgehog is in a secret facility, primed to break out and cause havoc. And we bet that havoc will head our way in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

In the game universe, Shadow was created by Doctor Eggman’s grandfather and plays more of an antihero role in many storylines. Think the Punisher vs. Daredevil except with much less violence. We aren’t sure if Shadow the Hedgehog will be the sole villain in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but they certainly won’t be friends. The Wachowskis cannot take in another cartoony animal at this point. And, he will give Knuckles something to smash. Our guy likes a good fighting/venting session.
When Will Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Release? The third Sonic movie is coming on December 20, 2024. It’s a holiday celebration, so we expect to see our favorite characters sipping hot chocolate.
Running faster, flying higher, and punching harder. #SonicMovie3 hits theatres on December 20, 2024. pic.twitter.com/DcFGbaKUao
— Sonic the Hedgehog (@SonicMovie) August 9, 2022
Until then, fans can rewatch the second Sonic film on Paramount+. Hopefully, we will get the Knuckles series to carry us through until the end of 2024. In either case, we feel excited to finally know when we can expect Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Does ARGYLLE Connect to the KINGSMAN Movies?
Argylle‘s very first trailer promised a huge surprise, and the movie delivered on that twist. We got to meet the real Agent Argylle and learn their relationship to spy author Elly Conway’s fictional secret agent. But the movie had another big question to answer, one fans of director Matthew Vaughn wanted to know: does Argylle have any connections to Vaughn’s Kingsman franchise? The answer to that was one part o a much bigger mystery.
[image error]What’s Argylle‘s Big Secret? Who Is the Real Agent Argylle?
How could meek espionage author Elly Conway predict real-world events in her novels about a stylish super spy named Argylle? Why did a real evil spy agency start hunting her down? And why did she suddenly start seeing visions of her character when her life was endangered? Because she was the real Agent Argylle.
Bryce Dallas Howard’s character was actually Rachel R. Kylle, a world-class spy who developed amnesia after an accident five years earlier. Her superiors at the secret organization Division decided to use her condition for their own purposes. They brainwashed Rachel into believing she was their daughter “Elly.” They then pushed her to write spy stories as a way to secretly unlock Agent Kylle’s repressed memories. It worked until Elly’s fourth and fifth novels threatened to reveal the agency’s secrets. That’s when they decided to kill her. However, her former partner and the love of her life, Sam Rockwell’s Aiden, kept Elly alive.
Together with an unexpected assist from Keira (Ariana Debose), another spy who had been believed dead the whole time, they brought down Division for good, blowing up the organization’s secret oil tanker base. However, that wasn’t the end of Elly-Rachel’s story.
What Happened At the End of Argylle?
With the real Division eliminated, author Elly Conway decided to also end her Argylle book series the same way. At a book signing for her fifth and final novel, we learned her fictional characters rode off into the sun on a speedboat just as Rachel, Aiden, and Keira actually had.
It was a fitting end for everyone, both real and fictional. Only it wasn’t the end because the film had one last shocking surprise for Elly-Rachel. Turns out her book character Argylle wasn’t a character at all. He was a real person—with a Southern accent and Jheri curl rather than a British accent and flat-top, but also played by Henry Cavill—sitting in the audience. And the real Argylle figured Elly would want to meet him.
We didn’t get to see that encounter, but we did learn a more about him after the movie ended. That’s also when we learned Argylle is part of a bigger cinematic universe.
Does Argylle Have an End-Credits Scene? Does Argylle Connect to the Kingsman Franchise?
A mid-credits scene immediately established that Vaughn’s Argylle takes place in the same cinematic universe as his Kingsman franchise. The 20-year-old flashback opened on an English tavern in the countryside called The King’s Man.
The scene centers on a young English man (played by Louis Partridge) who begins speaking in an obvious code with the bartender. After establishing their shared connection to the secret service organization, the tavern owner says the young man—who identifies himself as Aubrey Argylle—must be in real trouble if someone has sent him to the bar. The tavern owner then hands young Aubrey a box containing both a gun and silencer.

The scene firmly sets Argylle in the Kingsman world, but it raises many questions. Why was young Aubrey in trouble at all? Was he a member of the Kingsman? Is he still with the organization? Did he also work with, for, or even against Rachel Kylle’s Division? How do the two know each other? Why did she subconsciously make Aubrey the hero of her novels but not remember him when she regained her memories? And was did the English Argylle show up to her book signing with a terrible Southern American accent and out-of-date hairstyle? Was that merely a one-day cover? Or is that disguise a sign he’s currently in trouble and in hiding? Or was that his way of saying he’s associated with the Kentucky-based Statesman introduced in Kingsman: The Golden Circle?
But the biggest question of all is how will we get any of those answers? Will Vaughn continue Aubrey and Elly’s story in an Argylle sequel or a Kingsman movie? What about both?
Will Argylle Have a Sequel?
Even before its mid-credits scene, the end of Argylle teased a second film and maybe a whole series of them. It showed a poster for Elly’s novel but labeled it “Book 1,” indicating we’ll get another entry. The fact she published five novels suggests we could get a lot more, too.
But if that does happen, will the next chapter take place under the Argylle banner or as a new installment in the Kingsman franchise? Even if we get a second Argylle film from Universal, it’s possible the film’s characters could also appear in a 20th Century Kingsman film or vice versa, especially since Cavill’s real Aubrey Argylle was once part of the secret service group in some way. (We’ll let the studios figure out how that will work.)
What do we think will happen? Your guess is as good as ours. That is unless you’re an author who’s really a secret spy suffering form amnesia. Then you probably know a lot more than you realize.

Patrick Stewart Gets Delightfully Goofy in New Paramount+ Super Bowl Ad
With the Super Bowl fast approaching, this also means the star-studded Super Bowl ads are also on their way. And one has just dropped a bit early, for the Paramount+ streaming service. It features a bevy of their most prominent stars, at the foot of the icy canyons below Paramount Mountain. Front and center is Admiral Jean Luc Picard himself, Sir Patrick Stewart. Joining him is Drew Barrymore, Thomas Lennon as Reno 911’s Lt. Dangle, Master Chief from Halo, Arnold of Hey Arnold!, Peppa Pig, Dora, Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba), Jeff Probst from Survivor, and Miami Dolphins Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Oh, and musical accompaniment from Creed. Because sure, why not? You can watch the full ad right here:
Admit it, you never knew you needed to see Sir Patrick sing along to Creed hits from the ’90s until now. Patrick Stewart is always so serious whenever we see him on screen, especially in his Star Trek role as Jean Luc Picard. So it’s fun to see him just get goofy and just mug for the camera like this. Stewart returns to Paramount Mountain after appearing in the first “A Mountain of Entertainment” spot that launched during the Super Bowl three years ago. However, we hope next time, he will bring some of his Enterprise cohorts with him. We all know they’d be game to get a little silly, especially Brent Spiner as Data.

This ad is the 15th installment of the Paramount+ streaming service’s “A Mountain of Entertainment” brand campaign. It’s also their third Super Bowl spot overall. This year, Paramount+ will be streaming Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, hence the actual football theme. Hopefully, next time (assuming there is a next time), nobody throws poor Arnold around. Can’t they bring back Beavis and Butthead and throw them around instead? They have it coming more than poor Arnold does.

GROUNDHOG DAY’s Ned Ryerson Is Stuck in a Lay’s Potato Chip Time-Loop in New Ad Campaign
Every year on the second day of February the nation turns its eyes to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. That’s where we pretend a small rodent can predict the weather. It’s one of our sillier traditions, but even if Groundhog Day is an absurd holiday, it did give us a great movie. Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray is a true classic, and this year Lay’s Potato Chips is celebrating the 1993 film with a series of time-loop commercials featuring Ned Ryerson himself, the great Stephen Tobolowsky. And they’re going to run all day on Groundhog Day.
Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort and Jimmy Kimmel’s Kimmelot have partnered on a series of eight connected ads honoring Groundhog Day the movie. They’re also going to air on Groundhog Day the holiday. Again. And again. And again. Variety reports PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay has purchased one third of Disney’s available advertising slots at ABC for February 2. The commercials will also appear on Hulu.
Each iteration follows the same scenario. It’s the exact situation Bill Murray’s Phil Connors faced in the movie when he found himself stuck living the same day repeatedly. Only every time Tobolowsky walks up to the grocery store register he carries a different flavor of chips. (These are still ads for a product, after all.) His purchase elicits the same response from the cashier, played by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Artemis Pebdani.

The ads work great as a short film where Tobolowsky quickly realizes the nightmare he’s trapped in. They also have a coherent arc with a payoff. That causes him to goes through a full range of emotions, fittingly giving each encounter its own flavor. But we’re jealous we won’t be experiencing these ads the way TV viewers will. They’re just going to keep coming all day.
Will they confuse people who don’t see them in order? Will they worry they are also losing their minds or even possibly trapped in Hell? Maybe! Or they might think this is all normal on a day we check a groundhog’s shadow to learn when spring will arrive.

SQUID GAME Season 2 Shares First Look, Series Coming in 2024
Netflix’s Squid Game became an absolute sensation in 2021. The show’s intense tragedy and heart-pounding suspense made for an explosive mix that captivated viewers. And now Squid Game will return for season two in 2024. Although the series has not shared a specific release date, it has revealed some information about what we can expect. Netflix debuted the first clip from Squid Game season two, as well as first-look images and a brief synopsis of what’s to come. Let’s take a look.
Netfflix shares of the Squid Game clips, “A heart-pounding clip from Season 2 also debuted in the “Next on Netflix” trailer… showing Gi-hun making a critical decision. Portrayed by Lee Jung-jae, who won ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series’ at the 74th Primetime Emmys, Gi-hun abandons his US plans after a mysterious call and embarks on a chase with a motive.”
That doesn’t sound like a super great idea, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see. Netflix also offers of the show, “The new season will also welcome other beloved characters back like Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and Recruiter (Gong Yoo). Adding to the intrigue, a new character played by Park Gyu-young makes her debut, sparking curiosity about the new character.”
You can check out season two looks at these new and old Squid Game characters below.

Squid Game season two will release on Netflix sometime in 2024. We’ll have to stay tuned to see what the next chapter of the show has in store. Hopefully, it won’t make us cry too much.
